knapplc
As the Steve Pederson era wound down, with Nebraska Football at historic lows, languishing under the misdirection of a coach Steve Pederson hired, many people turned their thoughts not just to the Athletic Director who hired that coach, but to the Chancellor who hired the AD, Harvey Perlman. Perlman's name came up in thread after thread on HuskerBoard, pissed that he let a guy like Pederson ruin our program. He was the Head Guy, and the buck stopped there. Perlman took action in 2007 when the program crumbled beyond repair, and the Pederson didn't seem likely to fire the coach he had risked his neck to hire. Out went Pederson and in came Tom Osborne, the man who would heal our wounds. Callahan was ousted and Pelini was hired, but still resentment against Perlmen festered. Now we stand at the brink of an historic change in the landscape of college football, taking the most risky and most likely beneficial step ever taken on behalf of this university, and this athletic program. Perlman has spearheaded this effort on our behalf, and has guided us through a minefield of disasters and downturns, ultimately choosing to leave the Big 12 and join the most prestigious public academic conference in the country. Perlman will be lauded as a hero for orchestrating this move, and rightly so. What a change a few years can make for one man's image. Thanks, Harvey. You did a good job here. 1 Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
Perlman has done so much good for NU. It goes far, far beyond athletics. Edit - I mean over his time here, not just with this. Quote Link to comment
huskerjack23
I liked when he said that the penalty for leaving would be "inappropriate" because of all the other teams that are leaving. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! So good. Quote Link to comment
Pasadena Husker
so far, he has done a masterful job in helping bring this big 10 offer to fruition. this move will obviously provide great benefits to the university, well beyond the athletic side of things. well done harvey! Quote Link to comment

Paul in WI
The text from that news conference should find a permanent place on this site. That was a masterpiece from both Harvey and Tom. Quote Link to comment

That was a masterpiece from both Harvey and Tom. like our very own (as huskers) declaration of independence, from the tyranny of texas and the south. just like the civil war, the north wins again. huskerstuckinmichigan
1620 the Zone quoted a famous movie and directed it towards Perlman, "Just when I thought you couldn't do anything dumber, you go and totaly redeem yourself!!!" Also, who ever would have thought Osborne would come out swinging like that? He is the model of humility and WOW it was like Rocky punching out Mr. T in the final round. Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
Heh, both Perlman and Osborne are known for being capable of laying down the political correct punches. 1620 is trying to make it sound like they're surprised Perlman was capable of that, but it's been obvious for a while. He's given out the politically correct smackdown before. So has Osborne. Quote Link to comment

krill
It's painful to think that we could be sitting here right now with a very mediocre program in the apparently doomed big 12 conference. What if TO had said no thanks three years ago, I'd like to retire in peace and comfort rather than be thrown back into the craziness of college athletics at age 70. Instead we've come off a great season, enthusiasm for football is as high as it was in the 90's, we're headed to a new conference, have a new arena being built and the university itself will likely do quite well with new research opportunities.
