Tunnel Walk chant lyrics??

Recommended Posts

I did a quick yahoo search - typed the first line... Each link is a little different - one or two words.

Dear Lord

in the battles as we go through life;

We ask for a field that's fair.

A chance that's equal to all in the strife;

The courage to do it or dare.

If we should win, let it be by the code;

With our faith and honor held high.

If we should lose, let us stand by the rules;

And cheer as the winners go by.

Day by day we get better and better;

A team that can't be beat, won't be beat.

Even found it on a bodybuilding website:

Don't know where it originated, but pretty motivational!

That's a bit different than what they were saying in the video. But like you said, each link you discovered was different by one or two words.

For the most part it's like a poem. Code and Rules doesn't rhyme, and I think if you listen to the video again they say road.

But good find, none the less. ;)

I love this but why is it being such a big deal now when it was brought up in 1997 with Grant W.?

I think the main reason is b/c its played at the beginning of the tunnel walk now, and to my knowledge wasnt during Wistrom's reign.

That's correct. This chant actually first surfaced in the NU locker room sometime in the 1983 season. It actually began like this, but has been trimmed down a little bit

Captain: What time is it!!

Team: GAMETIME!

Captain: What time is it!!

Team: GAMETIME!

Captain: What is our destiny!!

Team: Do or die!!

Captain: What is our destiny!!

Team: Do or die!!

Captain: Who we gonna beat!!

Team: (opponent being played)

Captain: Who we gonna beat!!

Team: (opponent being played)!!

Then the captain begins with those tunnel walk lyrics above. My neighbors who is the newphew of NU captain Mike Knox (for anyone who remembers him) who played during the 1981-1985 season said that that was when it all started
