The Tea Party freshmen want a smaller Government

That's the platform. The takeaway from their actions is they want "Not what the Democrats want." And that's no way to run a successful government.

If what the Democrats want is bigger Government (and it usually is), you are right. As for running a successful Government, I'd try to find out who controls the Presidency and the Senate...oh, and the House for the first two years of President Obama's term. The Senate has not passed a budget since when? Early 2008? You would think it would be hard to run a Government without a budget, but you'd be wrong. It's easy.

This just might be the year for a third party. By the time the Republicans have the remaining 350 debates and the President's blaming Congress reaches a crescendo, maybe Ron Paul will look better and better. I can see it now...Paul and Nader. GM will ask for $500B to develop a hybrid Corvair and get it.

Uh huh. The GOP has a majority in the House, and they filibuster EVERYTHING in the Senate. (To the point where they will filibuster to prevent a debate on most topics.)

Somehow, this lack of action is not because of the GOP?

Again who controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency for the first two years of Obama's term? And when was the last time anyone filibuster something in the Senate?

You do realize how filibusters are used today right? If not, I will happily explain it to you.

During the first two years of Obama's term the government passed significant legislation. I'm sure that you are capable of searching for "Obama accomplishments" and perusing the results.

Explain please. A threat of a filibuster is not the same as a filibuster. Kinda' like a murder is not the same as a murder. Understand? If not, I'll explain.

And when was the last time anyone filibuster something in the Senate?

LOL (sincerely). Almost fell out of my seat there.

Since the filibustering of the Robert Bork nomination back in 87', use of the filibuster has steadily risen (by both parties) to the point where every single bill now requires a 60 vote cloture motion for passage in the Senate. So, on paper a majority is now 3/5ths, but an actual party majority would be more like 63-65 since quality individuals like Ben Nelson won't ever make a tough vote.

If the constitution above all else people actually wanted to latch onto an issue where we have unquestionably deviated from constitutional intent it would be the senate debate rules. But they won't, because everyone seems to like a system where it's impossible to legislate.

Lol....insincerely. So, when was the last one? Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and tell me.

The minute some Republican launches his bill to save the economy and fix this mess I'll buy into benevolent Republican motives. Until then, the fact remains that they would rather see this country trashed for another year than do anything to assist in recovery, because that could reflect well on Obama.

Regular Americans are just collateral damage to them. And when the Democrats are in their shoes it's the same thing.

And yet all we see are mindless zombies regurgitating the nonsense either party spews forth. It's all so much derp it's crazy. And yet here we are.

Ryan Budget...ring a bell?

I'm no fan of Pelosi but I'll take her over the freshmen 'baggers every day of the week.

Why use a profanity to describe people?

Profanity?

baggers?

More derogatory than profane, imho. Derogation that is well earned.

Huh? When did the Tea Party endorse draping your scrotum over someone's face? Aren't you in the process of becoming an officer of the court?

So...when did they?

November 3rd, senate bill S. 1769.

Who are all these people that cropped up just to troll the politics forum?

Give me a link that shows the bill was filibustered. It didn't achieve 60 votes.

Wait, I'm confused, I clicked on the thread called Keystone Pipeline...this clearly can't be it.

Exactly what I was thinking...

Frankly I don't trust either side. I'd like to see the science about its impact rather then "omg it's going to contaminate the aquifer" or "there are already pipelines." How it turned into the same argument every other thread basically has in the last month, I don't really know, but it's annoying. The Ryan budget, filibusters, and Obamacare have absolutely nothing to do with the original topic.

Senators don't have to physically stand at the podium speaking to filibuster. They did in the old days (e.g. civil rights legislation) to grandstand and make a point, but it's not actually required. The only way to end debate in the senate is by unanimous consent to limit debate, or rule 22 (cloture) to end debate, which requires 60 votes. So in effect one senator can extend unlimited debate until a cloture motion passes with 60 votes.

In the 111th Congress (09-10), Republicans filibustered 112 pieces of legislation, almost doubling the previous record of 61 set in the 108th congress. Not even sure what we're up to in the 112th, but as you know, virtually nothing is getting through without a huge battle.

Anyway I agree this is really flying off topic. Only wanted to clear this up because it's something people should know...

Someone's been getting their daily dose of Rush and Beck.

Is that all you got?

Well I was going to include a LOL or LMFAO, after you spammed 4 replies basically asking the same question as your own previous posts you quoted, but I figured that might be more patronizing. Here, just for you.

Huh? When did the Tea Party endorse draping your scrotum over someone's face? Aren't you in the process of becoming an officer of the court?

Second question has nothing to do with the first and I have no idea about what carl does, and I don't see what you're trying to imply... As far as Teabaggers since you asked 3 times... Well that's just an unfortunate play on words they exposed themselves like when they chose their "party" nickname. If they'd have used the name the salad party, there'd be jokes there too. The funny thing is those terms were around before the right wing movement came about and was hijacked by more corporate and religious interests (but at least the various far right interests the republican party is beholden to gave themselves that name, it's freaking funny). They could have done a little research and maybe come up with something with less of a sexual connotation. It's not like they were santorumed. However, I'm sure you could find some Tea Party Republican that likes having their scrotum in someone else's mouth if you looked hard enough... like asked any male that's ever gotten oral sex.

Again who controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency for the first two years of Obama's term? And when was the last time anyone filibuster something in the Senate?

You know this is a pattern here, rather then going and looking something up yourself and actually forming a well thought out argument using that to support whatever point you are trying to make you ask what seem like rhetorical questions over and over like a condescending ass. I thought about maybe going ahead and adding a lmgtfy link to up the condescension levels even more, but I'll pass.

Would you believe December of last year, for an actual formal filibuster (see the internet is useful for stuff like finding the answers to your own questions). However I don't think many people would agree with you that simply moving past legislation with threatened filibusters or cloture votes is really any different then actually having someone standing on the floor talking as long as they could until the senate moved on.

Here you go, and from a decidedly right wing source:

I'm not in the process of becoming an officer of the court and I'm not sure how that is relevant. That must have touched a serious nerve for you. Again, I apologize. You're clearly threatened by it but you shouldn't be. I enjoy my job, but believe me, it's nothing special.

Also, my apologies for keeping you waiting on pins and needles. I didn't realize that my input was so central to your evening that you would ask for my response at 4:00pm, 7:00pm, and 10:00pm. I suppose I should spend less time with my lovely wife and her family so that I can answer your questions. Again, I have clearly underestimated my importance in your online life. I will try to give you more of my time, Yossarian.

Actually, the effect is exactly the same. Rather than actually filibustering, the minority party says that they will filibuster the bill if it is brought to the floor. You don't seem stupid and you seem to follow politics. You can figure this out, right? There is a reason why krill almost fell out of his chair laughing at you.

Actually a murder is the same as a murder. Boy, this is fun. :D
