NamelessHusker
Shannon Boatman is a 6-7, 310 pound offensive tackle from the JUCO ranks. I talked about him earlier and that Nebraska could offer him a scholarship if they felt they might be out of it for a couple of guys. NU is still in the mix for 4 star OT J.B Walton who just visited and rated his visit as a 10. Other prospects NU is stil in on are 4 star recruit Curtis Bailey, 3 star recruits Jeff Adams, Perry Dorrestien just to name a few. We need about 5-6 lineman in this class to shore up some major needs. We already have 2 in D.J Jones and Ricky Henry, so we need 3 more guys at least. Boatman is a 3 stat juco from Tyler Junior college out of Texas. In addition to his NU offer, he's got offers from Oklahoma St, UTEP, South Carolina, TCU, Houston, Iowa St. He's visiting Nov 11th when NU takes on KSU at home for its final home game this season This is a guy Texas was heavily recruiting out of high school but due to lack of grades, he ended up in the JUCO ranks. He runs a 5.0 in the forty and excells at pass blocking. He is a December graduate, meaning he can enroll in January and will have 2 years left to play 2 years after using up his redshirt year. Since he graduates in December and already has a visited lined up to Iowa St on Dec 9th, Coach Wagner will likely push for a verbal from him. Quote Link to comment
hootin' annie's goatfarm
hello nameless & sgfdhusker, there has been another change in regards to shannon boatman #35 juco prospect - by the way great info above on him nameless - his visit to UN has been chanced to 12/16 - so no gameday atmosphere - yet hopefully UN will be prepping on that day for their bowl game (hopefully) he will visit okst on 12/2, & then iast 12/9 ks & sc may get his 4th & 5th visits - if he needs that many. NamelessHusker
thanks to both for the info. is Boatman a good get? any info on how talented this big guy is??? He is in my opinion. Nebraska is no longer going for the 6-3, 6-4 offensive lineman unless the have major talent in pass blocking. They are going with the huge guys who will bulldoze their way and open up big holes for running backs. Nebraska is trying to get taller guys in the lineup and use a look they call "The Elephant look" by simply putitng to much meat on the offensive line, it helps open up major holes. NU has been using the Elephant look this year on 3rd and 1 or 2 downs. According to Wagner, NU put over 2500 pounds of offensive lineman meat against Oklahoma and all but once did it not produce a first down. In my opinion, regardless if he's a 3 star to some people, this guy would fit nicely with 6-6 (and growing) D.J Jones, 6-8 Brock Pasteur, 6-8 Matt Slausson and 6-8 Lydon Murtha. There's another recruit NU is heavily in on that i forgot to mention from the JUCO ranks and he deserves a thread all to himself. 4 star Offensive lineman Phil Loadholt from Garden City Kansas who is 6-9 and still growing amazingly. He is a 3 for 3 player and is considering a visit to Nebraska in January sometime because he still has a little bit of work to do before he graduates in May. The fact he is a late graduate is one reason schools haven't offered him, but he's being pursued by Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas St, Kansas, and Oklahoma St Keep an eye out for him Quote Link to comment
BigWillie
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the article Warchant.com just ran about Boatman and his visit to FSU a recruiting violation? Boatman is on a official visit right now to FSU and it seems they contacted him in the middle of the visit which IIRC, is a no-no. Am I wrong here? Quote Link to comment
NamelessHusker
I am confussed. Warchant ran a story saying FSU did what? Quote Link to comment
BigWillie
Warchant currently has a story going about Boatman and it seems they interviewed Boatman and he stated he liked what he had seen so far from the FSU visit. Boatman isn't scheduled to leave until tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
NamelessHusker
That isn't a recruiting violation. I believe HI or Scout ran a story on one NU recruit while he was still here. In fact, many sites do that often Quote Link to comment
NamelessHusker
Out of the blue, he cancells his visit and drops us from consideration. Sitting 2 weeks ago at one of his top schoolsm all of a sudden its down to Florida St, Oklahoma St, TCU, and Iowa St. He's already visited 3 of those schools and is taking another one to Iowa St this friday., Another case of negative recruiting against Nebraska? Sure sounds like it. Sounds like Florida St is using a dirty tactic since we landed Cruz and Cruz isn't interested in them now that they offered. Oh well, good luck to him wherever he goes. There are still other prospects out there with talent and no big loss. Quote Link to comment
hoyamannn
I think NU quit recruiting him because of the verbal from Cruz Barrett. Quote Link to comment
NamelessHusker
I think NU quit recruiting him because of the verbal from Cruz Barrett. Nebraska needs offensive lineman and with our last 4 of 7 (now 6) recruits visiting being offensive lineman, that tells you we still need lineman. If we were done recruiting lineman, we would have told the other we don't need them to come to Lincoln anymore. Nebraska still needs 2 more limeman for this class. The goal for this class was 4-5 lineman and we have 3 so far. There's also 1 guy in particular who might not qualify so we still need the help Quote Link to comment
Husker19941995
I heard Coach Wagner pulled Boatman's offer. Quote Link to comment
DaveH
I haven't heard anything like that. Quote Link to comment
