carlfense
But it was such a ridiculous jump in the first place, that a 1.7% decrease in spending is hardly worth noting. That's the point. Was anyone saying that the 1.7% decrease was significant? I certainly wouldn't claim that. What I see as significant is that this explodes the myth that Obama drastically increased government spending in the wake of a fiscally conservative Republican president. That debt clock that was featured so prominently at the GOP convention? Perhaps they should have hung a "We Built This" sign on it. Link to comment
Undone
Completely agree there, too. And no - no one in this thread said that minute decrease was significant. But while we're dispelling myths, let's also both agree that Bush did not practice, in any way, "fiscal conservatism." That's part of the problem with the rhetoric that gets tossed around when it merely devolves into a couple party line-towers in a battle of "your side sucks" royale. Bush a fiscal conservative? Hardly. I know you didn't do this, but "conservatism" gets bashed, even when the accuser couldn't even put a definition to it! The vast majority of those in Washington clearly disavow anything construed as fiscal conservatism. It's a smoke 'em if you got 'em, devil may care policy with regards to the budget. On a side note...I more or less told myself I wasn't going to post in here. I haven't spent quite enough time around this community to get the feel for how it debates politics. Just remember - I love the Huskers. Link to comment

My use of "fiscal conservative" was intended as sarcasm. That doesn't always translate well. Fiscal conservatives probably shouldn't be voting Republican. Hopefully you continue posting here. The more the merrier. Particularly those who are willing to look beyond partisan boundaries and criticize all politicians. Link to comment
