NCAA announces easing of sanctions against Penn State

The PSU case is sui generis. It had nothing to do with football players. I doubt we'll see many more scandals that are comparable.

Couldn't agree more. This was a justice system matter at it's core and unlike anything college football has ever seen before.

True, but it had everything to do with football coaches. Do you think this would have been covered up if a history professor at the school performed the crimes? The administration and coaches covered it up and allowed it to go on because it was the football program. The NCAA allowed the athletes, the ones that had nothing to do with the crimes, to transfer to any other school without sitting out a year. Those who stayed knew the punishment and the incoming recruiting classes are not blind to the fact as well.

Yes, I do believe that it would. Other universities have not bothered to reprimand professors when they have relationships with students. I know its not the same as molesting children, but universities certainly cover up sexual relationships. See issue at Yale.

"Four individuals with close ties to the department told the News that Darnell’s policy violations involve NELC associate professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies Colleen Manassa ’01 GRD ’05, who was his student as both an undergraduate and doctoral candidate. The relationship was common knowledge within the department, the sources said, and three sources confirmed that Darnell and Manassa, who are both professors within the Egyptology subdivision of the department, have had romantic relations at least since when Manassa was a graduate student."

Yeah when institutions find a creep in their ranks they would rather dispatch him discreetly to avoid the bad press. I'm sure private businesses can people every year and don't give the reason. The Catholic Church couldn't do that because you can't fire priests, not quietly anyway. (Not that that is comparable to the Prof-Grad student relationships which are pretty much tolerated at every U). PSU's case had the additional factor of Sandusky using facilities to help run his charity for years after he was fired. That would never happen elsewhere because obv the bosses are trying to rid themselves of the problem.

The University of Penn State was thnking about their football program instead of the little boys who were sexually assaulted throughout the years thats the problem.

Their best interest was protecting their Football program instead of eliminating the problem.
