Imprisoned Cowboys Fan Sues NFL For $89B For Reversing Dez Bryant Catch

Hendrix's handwritten filing is "on behalf of Dez Bryant #88, all Dallas Cowboys fans, and all people in or from the Sovereign Republic of Texas." It names as defendants the NFL, Roger Goodell, referee Gene Steratore, and head of officiating Dean Blandino, and accuses them of "fraud, theft and gross stupidity in the face of an undeniable catch."

I guess this is Bill Belichick going no holds barred.

Is it right? I have no idea.

It seems like the NFL doesn't regularly log ball pressure before, during, and after games, and certainly no protocol for doing this with rigor. Which is problematic.

This appears to be a Cliffs' Notes of his claims:

-N.E's "vigorous rubbing" of balls raises PSI ~ 1 psi over equilibrium

-If officials take those balls and calibrate them to 12.5 psi, they will over time tend towards equilibrium (11.5 psi)

-Footballs lose additional psi on field during game conditions. When brought back to controlled conditions and measured, they gain some of that loss back, but not all of it.

If the Colts delivered the ball to the officials for calibration without having rubbed them, or after they had already settled to equilibrium, then that can result in a discrepancy. Especially if the Colts' balls, whether by official or by request, were started off at a higher psi.

Or maybe the Pats knew all along their prep process would kick the balls up 1 psi and delivered them to the officials freshly rubbed just to try and work around the lower limits. If they're willing to be gamey with the formation rules, why not?

Richard Sherman sounds off on the Patriots' controversy:

"Will they be punished? Probably not. Not as long Robert Kraft and Roger Goodell are still taking pictures at their respective homes. He [Goodell] was just at Kraft's house last week before the AFC Championship. Talk about conflict of interest. As long as that happens, it won't affect them at all."
