slacker
Hints: Here's some things to think about. We know that the fictitious name added to the list wasn't a real person, you might ask other things about the list; we also know it had something to do with crime, what sort of crime; we also know that some "governmental" group added the name, which group and why... Silent Commit
Was there a stow-away aboard? Was the crime a theft? Was the crime a fraud? Was the crime a murder? Was the name added to coverup incompetence or negligence on the part of the airline? government agency? Was someone traveling incognito? Was the local/state government agency that added the name involved with ... law and order? utilities? airline regulations? education? air control? monitoring airports? public health? Was the name added to test or determine something? Was the criminal(s) aboard the flight? If so, was s/he a pilot or employee of the airline? a passenger? Why can't i figure this out....am I just stupid? (Don't answer that) Quote Link to comment

Silent Commit
Am I on the right track if I presume that the police added the name to catch/deceive a crook who was attempting to steal something? - like a sting operation or something to that effect? Does it matter what was being stolen? Was someone stealing luggage? Is the passenger list vital in the crook's attempt to steal something? Would the added name trigger the theft? That is, would the intended victim of the crime be the fictitious passenger? How about the other passengers, would they be victimized, as well? Is the crook an employee an airline? Am I getting warmer? Quote Link to comment
rawhide
That sounds like it SilentCommit. prolly a employee stealing from luggage like you asked. Quote Link to comment
slacker
Okay, I guess I've tortured you all enough with this one. WE HAVE A WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS Silent Commit! Why was a fictitious name added to an airline’s passenger list? Many vacationers who flew with a certain airline had their homes burglarized while they were away. The police added a false name (but real address) to the list and caught the burglar red-handed when he broke in. It turned out that his sister worked for the airline and passed the list of passenger addresses to her nefarious brother. True story… Quote Link to comment
