Mavric
There will now be an independent medical spotter in the replay booth at all Big Ten home games. If the spotter sees a player showing signs of a head injury, the spotter can contact the replay official if it doesn't appear that anyone else is going to stop the game. The replay official can then ask for an officials’ timeout. The on-field official will say the play is under review, then later will alert everyone that the game was stopped for medical reasons. The player must leave the game for one play until he is cleared after further medical review. With fellow players, coaches and on-field officials looking out for injured players, Carollo doesn't think the new policy will impact the game much. "I don't see this procedure to be used too often," he said. "But if it can give us another layer of support to protect our players, I'm 100 percent in favor of this new policy."  247 1 Quote Link to comment

Landlord
I like that they're being proactive with safety, but I'm pretty leery of a hypothetical where Nate Gerry is forced to sit out a play because he took a half second too long to pop up from a tackle and the medical evaluator got overly cautious, and we get burned the next play.
