Landlord
As a quick thought experiment, I looked through our last 7 years of results. I personally think a huge online contingent are taking this game WAY too hard, and that it was a great, enjoyable, memorable game that doesn't really mean jack at the end of the day. You can disagree. That's totally alright. What you can't disagree on, though, is that we have been on the positive side of these kinds of games a lot over the last several years, and rarely on the negative side. Dare I say that in a sense we were due? Here's the results of games that were decided last minute since 2008: #7 Texas Tech - Lost 31-37 after an interception in overtime Colorado - Won 40-31 after school record 57 yard field goal and then pick six by Suh Clemson - Won 26-21 after a sack and two incompletions on Clemson's last drive to score with a minute left #13 Virginia Tech - Lost 15-16 on VT's only touchdown with :21 seconds left #20 Oklahoma - Won 10-3 on an intercepted Hail Mary #3 Texas - Lost as time expired on field goal with :01 left Iowa State - Won 31-30 on an interception in double OT Penn State - Won 17-14 as Penn State turned the ball over on downs with less than a minute left Wisconsin - Won 30-27 after Montee Ball was stopped on 4th down and fumbled with less than a minute left Northwestern - Won 29-28 after NW missed a field goal to win it as time expired Michigan State - Won 28-24 on a TD pass to Jamal Turner with less than 10 seconds left Wyoming - Won 37-34 on failed Hail Mary attempt by WY as time expired Northwestern - Won 27-24 on completed Hail Mary as time expired Michigan - Won 17-13 on turnover on downs by Michigan under a minute left Penn State - Won 23-20 in overtime on made field goal after PSU missed theirs Georgia - Won 24-19 on Georgia turnover on downs with :31 seconds left McNeese St - Won 31-24 on Ameer Abdullah's superhuman catch with :20 left Michigan State - Lost 27-22 on Armstrong interception with less than :40 seconds left Iowa - Won 37-34 in overtime on Kenny Bell touchdown I might be missing some, but holy crap. 11 straight games and 12/13 that were decided at the very end and we won. We've been fortunate. Maybe that's why some of you are taking this so hard. We've come to expect that we just win these sorts of things all the time now? 2 Quote Link to comment

Kernal
Man, Bo knew how to win those close games... buuut then he also knew how to get blown out. Maybe he was an adrenaline junky. He certainly seemed to be emotionally motivated. I think I'd prefer to just wrap up some of those games before the last minute. Quote Link to comment
skersfan
If a person could not take positives from yesterdays game, you were not going to if we won. Tough loss, but that builds character normally. We have to give coach Riley time, and for that matter the kids to adjust to the offense and defense. We played what some say is a very good team. Older, stronger, maybe ore focused due to longevity in the program. Still see a silver lining in this change, will not make any decisions until after this year at the earliest, but most likely want him to have a full recruiting cycle. Relax and have fun, it is not like we have been winning every game for the last 15 years. Quote Link to comment

Relax and have fun, it is not like we have been winning every game for the last 15 years. Completely agree with this. And, I can hardly understand where most of the negativity is coming from. There were certainly negatives - lack of a pass rush, not very good coverage (at the very least, it was sporadic), the run game was not what we needed, first down gains in general needed to be much better, etc - but the least of our problems is 'hail mary coverage'. We lost on a hail mary, it's awful. But if your opinion on the game depends on a fluke hail mary, then your opinions are just misguided. We played pretty well in most aspects, and very well in a few. There's room to improve in almost all aspects, and considering the improvement made in all aspects of the game after half time, I'm optimistic we can continue to make changes and move forward. This weekend's loss will not affect the season /at all/. Time to win next week. Quote Link to comment
