zoogs
John Oliver has become one of the best voices on late night. He is as far as I can tell the best true heir to Jon Stewart's legacy. If anything, his show is even less about the laughs; comedy is merely his vehicle for advocacy. I'm grateful for his good work and love the degree of creative control HBO has given him for his show. For all clips, NSFW/language warnings probably apply. Link to comment
Landlord
I really like John Oliver. Don't watch his entire shows but watch pretty much every bit they put up on youtube. Appreciate his approach and his humor, even when I'm on a different side of an argument, like abortion. 1 Link to comment
JJ Husker
I like his show when I watch it.......a little bit. Too much of him can go a long ways though. I am usually not aligned with his politics but I like his humor and presentation. Link to comment
zoogs
Yeah, I don't watch his show entirely, only the youtube clips. They're long but often quite substantive. Back when he was starting out, I did catch a little bit of it on TV and I wasn't all that impressed -- call me old-fashioned, but I don't think a lot of uncensored swearing is a good look even in comedy. And for pure comedy I usually turn elsewhere. But I've been won over by the substance of what he's doing. I think I do agree with him on many issues and beyond being a comedic talent, he's a good voice and one with heart (which is a quality I think is often lacking in other commentators. Bill Maher comes to mind) 1 Link to comment
