I think things are looking up, but I don't see us regularly being favored over Ohio State, Michigan and possibly Penn State.  Ohio State and recently Michigan seem to recruit with the southern power houses.  I see Nebraska being in the hunt on occasion, but not being able to maintain the flow like the other three.  Hopefully I am wrong on this, but you just don't go from 20-25 recruiting to top 5.  I think to be favored in most games that is the level it will require in the Big Ten's highest level.  It appears to me everyone in our division is making every effort to be good in football.

Just got our tickets for the Ohio State game.  Also attending the Chiefs game with the Colts the following week.  May go to Mizzou and Troy the Saturday after.  Have to come back for a wedding and decided to hit a few games.

Somewhat pessimistic but a reasonable assessment of the current state of our program.  I agree we have some ground to cover in recruiting in comparison to the B1G powerhouse programs.  I think we will see a trend moving forward where we get better and better as Frost's brand improves and the football team performs better on the field.  The uncertainty of losing a coach to another program/higher salary/dream job is somewhat nil with Frost so we can count on continuity.  I'm not drinking my own kool-aid either when I say we have one of the best coaches in college football; Frost is the real deal.  I think we will get there, but it might take another year or two.  The team buys in, we buy in, and everyone else, including the media, will follow suit = higher rankings, better performance, and improved recruiting.  I like our chances against tOSU this year at home, against wiscy , and iowa.

Well you don't have to be favored in a game to win and we only play one of those teams that recruits ahead of us this year so undefeated regular season isn't that crazy. Schedules matter alot, ask Iowa and Wisconsin. As for the recruiting, who says we have to outrecruit those teams in the rankings to beat them? Does coaching and development not count for anything?

All it takes for Nebraska to get up close to that top level is to maximize/outperform our top 25 or so talent (say, finish top 15), which then gives us a leg up to recruit a little bit higher (say, top 20), then maximize that into a 10-12 performance, leverage that into a top 15 recruiting class, and so on.

This is what worked at Oregon. They made two national championship games in four years with recruiting rankings only marginally better than ours, because they had identity, played to it, and maximized their ability more than others.

Bingo.   I can see some classes ranked around #10 in a few years but I don't foresee top 5 when they will take guys like Marvin Scott who fit perfectly but aren't ranked as high as they probably should be.
