Opportunity won’t be a problem for Snyder, who now just has to make the most of one. Nebraska lost three four-year lettermen at tight end, and former walk-on Tyler Hoppes is the only returnee with any sure inroads to playing time.

#39 - Tyrin Ferguson

Nebraska had to make some winter decisions after hiring Bob Diaco as defensive coordinator and going to a 3-4 scheme, and Ferguson was ultimately believed to be a best fit at outside linebacker. He is considered versatile enough to play either spot, however, and

#38 - DaiShon Neal

Few fill out the uniform and look the part as well as Neal, so now it becomes time for the Omaha Central grad to prove he can play. Nebraska needs a big season from veteran Freedom Akinmoladun at the open-side defensive end spot, for sure, but Neal should pick up some snaps and get a chance to prove he deserves more.

#37 - Luke McNitt

McNitt never got the chance to run the football last season like Andy Janovich did the year before, but there is still plenty of value in his role. Nebraska again will utilize McNitt in power sets, and he will continue to be a physical, hard-nosed and versatile force on special teams.

IMHO Jano never got enough touches his last season, don't see this kid getting much ball time either......most O coordinators want the ball in the hands of a RB who can take it to the house on any given play....but the fact is, it opens up more for the speedsters if you pound the middle a bit with your FB........and wear the defense down i think........a little more balance and using the FB in the right situations...........seems like FB's and TE's are too often left out of the offense.

#36 - Michael Decker

 

6-4 | 305 | Sophomore | C

 

A starting job came open with the departure of Dylan Utter, and Decker continues with his offseason push to win it. NU finished spring practice with Decker and Cole Conrad appearing fairly even, but Conrad also has value as a backup at other spots.

#35 - Tyjon Lindsey

It’s not a stretch to think Lindsey can have a similar impact to what Stanley Morgan (2015) and De’Mornay Pierson-El (2014) did during their freshman seasons — and the Huskers might need that and more from the talented newcomer.

 

Lindsey isn’t very big but comes in with the kind of explosiveness and open-field danger that concerns opposing defensive coordinators. What NU won’t know until August, however, is how the former Ohio State commit handles the grind and demands when fall camp starts.

#34 - Bryan Reimers

 

6-5 | 210 | Junior | WR

 

Reimers has proven to the coaches that he can go up and get it, so his size and length are tools that can help the Huskers at receiver. His sophomore season included five receptions for 75 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown during the second-half rally against Oregon.

#33 - Avery Roberts

 

6-1 | 230 | Freshman | LB

 

Nebraska appears to be stockpiling some good youth and talent at linebacker, and Roberts is among those at the forefront. He arrived in January to get a running start and now will head into his true freshman season with a chance to play some snaps at one of the inside linebacker positions (behind veterans Chris Weber and Dedrick Young).

#32 - Antonio Reed

 

6-2 | 210 | Junior | S

 

Reed already has appeared in 25 games, including his first career start in the Music City Bowl after Nate Gerry was ruled ineligible. It appears he will start the season as a backup safety again — with Aaron Williams and Joshua Kalu emerging as the No. 1s after spring practice — but Reed offers important value on special teams.

#31 - Mohamed Barry

Some excitement is starting to brew around Barry, who made strides during spring practice. He’s now in position to play behind Chris Weber and Dedrick Young at inside linebacker as the Huskers launch their 3-4 scheme under Bob Diaco.

#30 - Devine Ozigbo

 

6-0 | 230 | Junior | RB

 

Last season, Ozigbo was in our top 10 and projected to be NU’s starting running back. Through the first half of last year, he played like it, running for 318 yards in the first five games. In the final eight, he rushed for 94 and missed three games because of injuries.
