  1. Nobody knew the system in year one when Pelini completely turned the defense around. It has far more to do with the players than it does with the scheme. I don't seem to recall any complaints the past three years when Bo was a defensive genius.
  2. Isnt a coach's job to prepare his players and cut down on the critical mistakes? Seems like since bo's been coaching we have always made those critical mistakes, correct? Not saying he needs to be fired but if this stuff is happening in a few years then he needs to go There are a lot of people out there blaming the coaching staff for things such as ball security and tackling. Nebraska plays big boy football in a major conference. The type of kids that come to Nebraska have obviously been taught from a young age that you cover the ball with two hands while running in traffic and you certainly wrap up when tackling. How these basic fundamentals taught in Pop Warner football not being executed falls back on the coaching staff boggles my mind. I am sure even these basics are worked on in practice but Pelini can't take the field and execute these things.
  3. The mistakes that Nebraska made today have nothing to do with coaching. Mental mistakes are ones that can be traced back to coaching but physical mistakes like fumbles on kickoff returns and diving into the punter have nothing to do with the coaching staff. Last I checked Pelini was not out there returning kicks of on the punt block team.
  4. Forge... I can't point out the fact that crowd was drastically different from one weekend to the next without being called a troll? I 100% believe that college kids feed off the atmosphere and support from the crowd and when 85,000 plus sit on their hands it has an impact on the game.
  5. I think losing at home to unranked opponents says as much about Husker fans and Memorial Stadium as it does about the team that plays there.
  6. What it ultimately comes down to is the fact that Nebraska is averaging 5.2 yards per rush and only 7.6 yards per pass. Beck has drastically reduced the likelihood of turnovers with his play calling. If we were averaging 3.0 yards per carry and 10.0 yards per pass then I could see a basis for airing it out. As long as the offense is consistently moving the ball and scoring points, we are doing our defense a favor.
  7. I remember when I had my first beer...
  8. I think the inability of the Penn State offense adds to the effectiveness of their defense... If I am an OC against Penn State I am going to be more conservative with my play calling knowing that the only way to take my team out of the game is with turnovers. Penn State is a team that relies heavily on its running attack meaning the two teams are going to chew the clock. In the end, the games are low scoring, low yardage games that lead to inflated defensive rankings.
  9. At the start of the season there was a ton of talk about 8-4 possibly 9-3 if things went our way. Now... now we are hearing a 10-2 season with an appearance in the CCG is backing into the game. Husker Fans- It is no longer the mid-90's. Let's stop playing Bruce Springsteen's Glory Days and move on. Live in the now and be thankful that we have a coach and AD who are moving the program in the right direction. It's very possible that we will finish the regular season 11-1. With our schedule, how many of us would have taken that in a heartbeat two months ago?
  10. I don't understand how people can say they would rather lose to a highly ranked Michigan team and not make it to the B1G Championship game than have a little help from Iowa in case we drop a game down the stretch... From a recruiting prospective I think it would be huge to play in the B1G Championship game in December so I am for whatever it takes to get to Indianapolis. For all of those who are wanting a return to "glory" I think a step in the right direction would be a Conference Championship in our first year in the B1G even if it is with a 10-2 regular season record. With our schedule how many people would have been thrilled to finish that way?
  11. Every remaining game on our schedule is technically a "division title game" because Michigan State has the one loss and is not likely to lose again. The question becomes who are we more concerned with should Michigan State drop a game somewhere... Michigan or Iowa?
  12. Wins against highly ranked opponents are always good for the program but I am more concerned with playing in the B1G Championship than the ranking of our opponents when we play them. In all reality it would be best for Iowa to beat Michigan... The tiebreaker to move into the B1G Championship is first determined by conference record, then head-to-head, then division record. Suppose Michigan State drops a game down the stretch (unlikely but would help Nebraska). Suppose Michigan beats Nebraska. We would head into the final week of conference play with four teams tied with two conference losses a piece. We would own the tiebreaker over Michigan State. Michigan would own the tiebreaker over us. However, Michigan would have the greatest chance of losing in the final week against Ohio State. Our destiny would be in our own hands against Iowa. The more losses a contending team has the better in my opinion.
  13. "The man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic- the man who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done." Theodore Roosevelt
  14. Interesting news coming from Norman... OU has not given up on the possibility of remaining in the Big 12 so long as Dan Beebe is removed as conference commissioner and the LHN is restructured. Thoughts?
  15. I know Wisconsin fans tend to be much more rabid than Notre Dame fans, but who can forget the Big Red Invasion of South Bend?
  16. It is a very fluid situation but everything depends on the where TAMU, OU, and UT end up. There is talk that the remaining teams from the Big 12 and Big East would join up to remain an AQ for the BCS. Of course, there was talk of Missouri joining the Big Ten in years past so that may be an option. Depending on how academics stack up it may be reasonable to assume Kansas and Kansas State would be considered if the Big Ten went to sixteen teams. As innovative and forward thinking as the Big Ten has been with the BTN and the addition of Nebraska before all of this conference "expansion" began, I have to believe they have feelers out with several schools if this this shift begins to take place.
  17. I think the thing that separates good returners from great returners is exactly what makes Abdullah so dangerous. He has so little indecision. He finds a lane and gets going vertical immediately. By far, he has made the greatest impact for the Huskers thus far.
  18. The problem with any stadium, and Memorial Stadium in particular, is that there are two very distinct type of fans. There are fans like us who want Nebraska to bring home a National Championship and are willing to do whatever possible to aid in that achievement. If that means standing on our feet and screaming for four quarters until our throats bleed we are more than willing to do our part. Then, there are fans who have gone to games for as long as they can remember and it has become part of a mundane routine. They want to watch the game, listen to their headset, and sit while doing so. They prefer to watch the game in person to enjoy the environment without being active participants. It seems at this point that there are more people in the latter group.
  19. Regardless of the TV contract Notre Dame currently holds with NBC, there is no way they can stand pat and let conference expansion take place without their joining the Big Ten. If these four "MEGA" conferences are formed with sixteen teams in each, where would you find space on a football schedule to play an independent like Notre Dame? It also appears the Big East is dissolving. Where will Notre Dame play basketball? Notre Dame is smack dab in the middle of Big Ten country and it's about time they take a seat at the table before they are left on the outside looking in.
  20. This was simply a typical "statement game" for one program and a mere blip on the radar for the other. How much time could Fresno State possibly have spent preparing for this game when they brought the best they had to Lincoln one week earlier? No win situation for the Bulldogs much like Nebraska last year against South Dakota State after a big win in Seattle. SDSU and UND both had everything to play for while the home team was using the game to "get healthy and get reps."
