  1. Geez, is there NOTHING that can be done to make some folks happy? A new sound system! Yay! . . . NOPE. Just the same crap but louder. What do you want, a call from the AD on Friday to ask you what songs you personally want played during the game? Try to see the positives, just try a little. There are some good things, too. Anything that can improve game day is excellent. I also suspect that SE was talking about REAL wi-fi in the stadium. Like the free wi-fi at Starbucks and other businesses. How cool would that be? Just log on and watch other games on your tablet live, if there are other games you want to track during our games or before/after kickoff. Check scores, keep up with Facebook (for those who do social media). All sorts of cool things could be going on. But it seems like half our fans will complain about anything. Hell, it seems that the school could give $100.00 bills to everyone who enters the stadium for a game, and half of us would say, "Geez. Only a hundred bucks? Why bother if it's anything less than a grand?" Spoiled much? I think some of us are. And it's easy to understand why I suppose after Tom and Bob and what they did. Still, we gotta keep going, one way or another, and I prefer to look at anything in as good a light as can be mustered.
  2. So now we're debating the definition of "waitlist"? This is like those threads that try to redefine "sellout streak". If there really ARE unsold seats at some point, the university will lower its required or expected donations enough to reduce the "waitlist" and fill those seats. If we reach a point at which people can get those seats, en masse, the day of the game by walking up to the stadium ticket offices, well, then I think we can safely say the waitlist is gone. Until then, it will remain . . . a "waitlist". I have now typed "waitlist" so often, and read it so often, that it now seems like a word in some foreign language.
  3. I like SE. I got to see him a little closer to home as I live in Florida. Given what he had to deal with here, he did pretty well. His one hire, a basketball coach, has been very good. I think he handled this year pretty well. He has been under the microscope nearly as much as Bo, for what he DIDN'T say during the season. The last thing I think a coach needs is to have the AD critiquing his every game on a weekly basis. We don't know what was or wasn't said behind closed doors. The pressure built up so much among media and fans though, that he spoke early, or early for him. I think that alone says a lot about the man, and in a good way. He will probably be very good for the school, not a man prone to making rash decisions on too little information. Time will tell, but I like it so far. I only wavered in my support of Bo after that Iowa outburst and that was a terrible day for a lot of reasons. The Iowa loss, in itself, was ot that big of a deal, considering the rest of the season. At least to me. It was the circus leading up to it that I hated. Now, knowing that Shawn supports Bo at least for another year, perhaps things will calm down a lot. Hopefully next year is better. Seriously, how many teams could accomplish even 8 wins with the amount of injuries we had? I think S&C should be among the top concerns, and rehab procedures after injuries. Can anyone really think that Bama would have been the same without McCarron, half their starting offense, and missing big chunks of defense with almost all replacements being underclassmen? Sometimes bad things happen, and we got more than our share this year.
  4. This IS a fan forum. And fans have differing opinions. I think we can all agree on that. Anyone who has played sports, at any level, simply has to be aware of this fact. It is such a simple given, that you'd think players would know better than to even look at sites like HB. Maybe they have (or should have) an internal site or message board where the players of a team/conference, etc, can do the same thing privately. Maybe that just opens a big can of worms, I don't know. The world has changed so much, with social media and new media everywhere, 24/7. It is impossible to escape, even for minor celebrities and wanna be's. In any event, if a player checks out a site and sees something they do not like, that is squarely on their shoulders. They know from a very young age that there can be and usually are polarizing views about even simple events when connected to such a high profile sport.
  5. Let's be honest with ourselves for once, at least about a single thing we should all agree on: That abomination known as Lil' Red looks like a horrid 1/32 scale model of the giant doughboy monster Bill Murray fought in Ghostbusters, with the sole difference being the overalls. Can we agree on that? If so, then we can tackle the less important facets of what it takes to be a true Husker fan . . .
  6. I don't know . . . I am torn. Part of me wants to see Texas stuck with Brown indefinitely. It is fun to watch them mired in misery. I want that to continue. However, beating them would be sweet, if we accomplish it. Perhaps we cause them to end up even worse off after the next coach flames out even worse.
  7. When an AD remains so tight-lipped through most of a season with a question looming so large, I suspect we had better hang on every word. It is unlikely there will BE many words. My guess is this is as good as saying, "Pelini WILL be here next year. UNLESS there is off the field behavior from the coach that makes us really question him or some legal problem." In other words, I think Pelini is the coach next year. If that is the case, I will dutifully line up and support the man, hope for some other coaching changes, and so on. In fact, with the benefit of some time to cool off, I wonder if some new coordinator(s) would be the answer after all. If anyone can 'force' such a change, I bet it's a brand new AD. Gives Pelini an 'out' by saying, "Sorry, I had no choice. It was either you or ALL of us, including all your friends."
  8. Bo made a complete fool of himself today, repeatedly. I had been a solid supporter, and really believed he should have been given 1-3 more years. He now has made himself, the team, the school, look like a joke in a crude manner that eclipses his past transgressions. I have done a 180 and think the sooner the door hits him in the ass, the better. I wonder how many others he lost today. And it had nothing to do with Iowa winning. It had everything to do with our team wildly underperforming, even with the injuries. For me, it was all about Bo and his immature, embarrassing behaviour.
  9. Harvey had ZERO impact on our AAU status, no more than you or I. The Tommy Lee thing, I had forgotten, as I suspect most had aside from fans. Maybe that was a decision that any exposure is good. Maybe we had no legal grounds to reject the old rock star. I have no idea, but that episode is long in the past for all but die hard fans.
  10. I'm doing okay, for now. Still have a few good games the rest of the night. Check with me tomorrow morning, I might be hurting badly. But, in a good way with the win. Great game! GBR!!
  11. Mr. Accountability: Not sure of your age. But: If Nebraska gets a field goal instead of a wide-right or left here and there, in the 90's run, would we be in a diifferent place now? If not for this, that, or another thing: the one second run off against Texas . . . . We can come at this from all angles. And none of them are helpful in the present or future. The ball rolls our way sometimes, and against us others (seemingly mostly lately).
  12. Jack Stark was a HUGE reason for that run in the nineties and I can't imagine we don't have one now. Ask any player or coach of that era, and Jack is always listed right there with Tom, the nutrition and strength coaches, the game plan, the coordinators and everything else that worked to build those teams. If we don't have a Jack Stark right now, someone should be fired. A bigger question is if that person is best suited for our team and helping to the greatest degree.
  13. It looks like most of us were fairly close in our expectations, myself included. We started the season expecting what we've seen. We entered the season with too many questions and will end it with more. I suspect the major sunshine jumpers were mostly tongue in cheek. I admit to hoping for much better as I am sure most did. But one day, the questions will be too numerous for even the most ardent fan. And yet I am still on the side of keeping the current regime for awhile. No clue just how long. Let's do this again in twelve months.

    USC

I was one of the people making the arms race argument. You are right. As long as USC does hire Orgeron. That is far from certain. There will likely be a lot of teams and only a few decent coaches. Texas is still up in the air. It sure sounds like they want him gone, at least the majority of fans. USC remains unknown. I haven't been keeping close track of too many others, but it seems Muschamp is also on thin ice. Maybe we would be best, if we make a change, in hiring Orgeron if USC doesn't take him. He has certainly shown what he can do with an already loaded cupboard. I think we have the cupboard. I am still in favor of keeping Bo for the longer term, 2-3 more years, but if we DO make a change, it had damn well better be a good one. We have already fired one wildly successful coach and taken three steps back. If we do it again, that could be lights out on Husker football.
  15. I have heard how serious this rivalry is seemingly forever. It was hard to imagine the hatred that attends the hyperbole I have seen online. I always figured, "Well, just the worst fans, anonymous, from each team, spouting utter nonsense and putrid insults at one another." No big deal, move on and proceed with life. Two weeks ago, I discovered that it is every bit as, err, "spirited", as it seems to an outsider. I was camping down near the Everglades here in Florida. Our cabins all had satellite TV . . . which was not hooked up. So, when game day for NU against Michigan arrived, I went into the nearest small suburban area and found a sports bar. They had all the major games and assured me the food was good, and that the NU game would be on. In fact, they tuned the biggest screen at the bar to that channel. I suggested other people might want to see some SEC games or ACC games on the largest screen in the place. He said, "No worries. They like to gather in small groups at smaller screens. They all know each other and like to chill together." I sat on a barstool next to a lanky blonde man who was mumbling under his breath, a constant stream of barely audible syllables. After ten minutes I realized he was glued to the Iowa State game. I introduced myself and told him I was from Nebraska, originally. We chatted for a bit. He is a scientist fighting root disease in citrus crops here in Florida. Nice fellow. His team lost. He mumbled his way out of the bar, and I settled in for the Nebraska/Michigan game. I don't recall how exactly it occurred, but I was cheering on a good play when I realized the bar was probably 60% full now, with over half of them also watching the Nebraska/Michigan game. And cheering for Nebraska. I saw TONS of red. Everywhere. I introduced myself to a few. There must have been 20-25 that were in this group that seemingly appeared from nowhere. After a few more cheers, I started to inquire among them. "You from Nebraska?" A cute blonde lady answered first, "No. Ohio." She turned so I could see the rest of her red shirt and it had a giant OSU logo on it. I looked more closely at everyone around me. Of the 25 or so, about 20 were wearing OSU gear. The rest were Husker fans. As halftime neared, I spoke a little more to some of them. It turned out that only 3 people actually knew each other and they all lived nearby. The rest came to root "AGAINST" Michigan. Just because they WERE Michigan. OSU was in bye week, I believe, but all these OSU fans turned out to cheer on Nebraska to beat OSU's hated rival. In chatting further, I discovered that two were OTR truckers, another was a lady who was in the middle of a drive from the Florida Keys to Atlanta for business. Others were travelers just passing through. None of this, aside from the three locals, was planned, as near as I could tell. No one else made great efforts at finding out much about each other. Maybe some met through some message board or forum, or set it up that way. I have no idea. But it was amazing to sit in a small crowd like that and all cheer for Nebraska to win. Or Michigan to lose, I guess, for the OSU fans. Some of them knew very little about Nebraska. One even asked me if we had come to the B1G from the Big EAST. But they all turned out in hopes of watching Michigan LOSE. No other reason that I could see. I spoke with the blonde again and she explained, "I have no clue whether Michigan losing helps The Buckeyes. I just like to watch Michigan lose." That pretty much covers it. It was a great time!
  16. I don't know how to read the finer points here, or even if there ARE any to be read. We can conclude that good coaches get it done sooner. Or we can conclude that schools and fans are so impatient that championships appear, that we have created a rapidly spinning carousel of coaches. Gone are the days of "building a career" at a single school, ala Osborne and Bowden. If that is the case, I will miss those days. I loved the sense of continuity and family it brought, especially growing up in Nebraska, where the state revolves around the team so much of the time. Maybe there are other ways to read this info, too. I haven't looked at all the comments, just began spewing from the keyboard after a quick read of the OP.
  17. Would you trust a QB that had been sitting the bench the entire game up to that point? Answer honestly "Hey you, yeah you, white kid with the mustache. Go deep, I'll throw you one". I bet he practiced that play a million times at recess. He probably even drew it up on his hand in the huddle Nuh-uh. He drew it up in the dirt with a stick. Uphill both ways, after clearing the snow from the dirt.
  18. Lots of good points, and some silly crap above. We have the talent, I think, for certain. Our players are (or can develop into) absolute stars. Right now, I see them as disjointed pieces of a machine, not all working in perfect sync. There are some issues because of youth but I see no reason to think the team cannot improve greatly. But, wow, we need to change up some of our staff. Beck, probably. Maybe Pap. I keep coming back to S&C though, too. Every team has injuries, but ours seem to last longer, have greater impact, and be more widespread than is usual. We are one of the most beat-up teams I am aware of, and that signals something is wrong in the S&C area. It's not like we're playing elite teams every week, but we are full of walking wounded, guys getting knocked out nearly every play this game with MSU. Something's wrong.
  19. Anything ever happen with the "parity-based scheduling" idea? If I understood it correctly, that concept could have led to us playing some of those games, if both teams match up.
  20. LOL. Your night and resulting day today could almost mirror the game yesterday. Without the miracle comeback at the end, of course.
  21. Sure, it could be the morals section of his contract. This may have been a moment the AD was hoping for. Carl wasn't exactly a huge success there. In any case, you can't have the head coach leading by this example. Just WOW.
  22. His contract with the school strictly prohibits his use of illegal drugs (no matter how illicit). He violated this contract, he got caught, he resigned. Understood, but an earlier post said one or both were taken away by the police. That seems very unusual.
  23. I live in Florida. I don't smoke weed, but have no problem with anyone who does. A few friends of mine, when busted, were just given citations and told to appear or pay a fine. None of them were "driven off in the back of a squad car". What the heck is really going on here?
  24. Sounds like the situation WAS fluid, at least for a few minutes. Then it got ugly. Probably won't be fun for the next 48 hours. If I were in the AD there, I think I wouldn't be answering the phones right about now.
