    Ran distance events in track and wrestled varsity in high school. Ran cross country in college. Learned the game of basketball in intramural at college and played many basketball tournaments, city leagues and noon ball at the local YMCA till I was 65. Started running sprints at seniors meets around the country about 9 years ago. I have 7 grandkids that I love dearly.

  1. Argument with my son tonight. The discussion was if Westy had caught the ball before it crossed the endzone but his feet had stayed in the endzone when he came down would it still be a TD? I know Westy did reach back with the ball to make sure but if he had been tackled with his feet in the endzone but the ball out of the endzone would it still be 6? I say no, son says yes.Discuss.

      I don't know the official ruling but I'm pretty positive the ball has to break the plane no matter what.

       

      It is interesting, though, since punt return members can't be standing in the end zone to field a punt at the 1, even if the ball is out.

      Landlord is correct, and that would be the difference between the NFL and NCAA. NFL makes more sense to me, it should be all about the ball.

      It's about the forward progress of the ball (while possessed) at the time it's ruled dead. Because the ball crossed the plane and was possessed, that is forward progress and it's a touchdown. If the ball was caught outside the plane of the goal, and never broke it, the forward progress does not allow for a TD, even if his feet are inside the goal zone.
