  1. All I want for Christmas is #34. Occasionally you see a running back who appears to have eyes in the back of his head, the speed to accelerate or decelerate as needed, and power to run through arm tackles. He's the kind of back that can make an O coordinator think about running on 3rd and long.
  2. I don't think he ever wanted to be a Husker. He was playing us and hanging on till he got what he wanted. Good luck to him and maybe see you in a few years.
  3. I just read today that Matt was chosen as honorable mention All American for Juco. He'd make a fine Husker!
  4. I'd love to see this young man become a Husker.
  5. The reasons I see us moving away from the option even more than this year are: 1. It consumes a lot of practice time to make it effective. Why do it when it won't be a full time offense? 2. No matter how strong the Qb is, Being an option Qb inflicts a toll on the body. I don't think Beck wants that for his starter. With multiple skill players on the field I think Pelini and Beck want to get the ball in their hands as much as possible without putting the Qb in jeopardy. Not saying the Qb will never run but I see it a way to get that first down when all other options are closed or there is a break down.
  6. I had a friend (now deceased) who always said a good sign for a football team (high school level) was to have linemen who wrestled and skill people who ran track. Those big guys learn how to leverage an opponent if they have wrestled. I'm liking this kid more and more.
  7. I think it will end up being used more as a tool to overcome a deficient line (assuming we even have one in the future) or other areas of the game. I still see us going towards Kansas's 2007 offense more in terms of QB play. An efficient QB that is mobile but not depended on to be mobile (anti-Braxton). Someone that is still a pass first QB, but is capable of stretching a play out to give our more athletic receivers time to get open. Maybe 500 yards a season - 250 on broken pass plays, 250 on designed QB reads - versus our current 1000 yards per season, with 750 of those on designed QB reads. The threat will always be there, but our offense wont' be designed as much around it. You stated my thoughts much better than I did. Thanks!
  8. The chances of our next QB being as productive isn't great.... I totally agree with this statement. It would appear that no future Qb will get 4 years to start, so the records Taylor set will be long lasting. I think Becks goals for the offense will change a bit after TM is gone. Fewer carries for whatever Qb runs the offense and more carries for a fleet set of running backs plus more receptions for a good group of sure handed receivers. The Qb will only run when something breaks down and the D starts focusing exclusively on the Rb's. This offense will surprize a lot of people in coming years.
  9. When it's all said and done, I think this will be a great year for recruiting. We'll add to our already deep list of running backs, linebackers, def backs and wide receivers. An excellent young Qb. Quality O linemen. It looks like we may be in the lead for Terell's services next year. The next 6 weeks will be something special on the recruiting front.
  10. Same here. I talk with Zach's dad a couple times a week. Would love to see him see the field in the near future. He has put on about 40 lbs on his 6'8" frame. He has very long arms and quick feet for a man his size. Oh....and by the way....he gets his athletic ability from his mother!
  11. Most of us have no idea how much time these coaches spend recruiting. It's not like most of these kids are a few hours drive away either. They go coast to coast. This will be a special year and the credit goes to the coaches.
  12. If complaining will get us a couple good DT's then I'll be first in line! Get 3 while we are at it.
  13. David Kneval decided to wear Scarlet and Cream next year. Yayyyy for the good guys!
  14. Last nights commit of OT David Kneval is a feather in Bo's cap for sure! It sounds like Alabama was going to make room for him and he still liked the Husker offer. I think we can get quality guard play from the commits of the last two years plus Hannon and Samuelson who have verbaled so far this year. It's the tackle play that has hurt us more than anything. This commit solves half of that problem. I'm wondering though if he redshirts to get stronger and learn the finer details of playing Div 1 or if Bo lets him learn on the job?
  15. Good point! That should allow him to get separation from the other two LB recruits. Going through spring drills definately gets a kid further down the road.
  16. Last evening's commit of David Kneval shakes up the rankings a bit. I'm not sure of his competition level where he played in Canada, so it's possible he redshirts to learn the system and hit the weights. He should get significant playing time by his 2nd year. 1. Randy Gregory DE Juco. Rated as one of the top juco De's in the country. If his broken leg heals he could be a force on next years defense. 2. Adam Taylor RB. If injuries occur at this position he could be on the 3 deep next year. 3. David Kneval OT 4. Gabe Miller (Long snapper) These guys usually go nameless unless the snap is bad. He should start next year for punts and place kicks. 5. Josh Banderas, Marcus Newby, Courtney Love LB. Likely redshirt but could see the field if last years crop of Lb's don't pan out. This next group is rated by what I see as future potential to the team. 6. Johnny Stanton QB. 7. Marcus McWilson S 8. AJ Natter DE 9. Zach Hannon and Dan Samuelson OL 10. Nathan Gerry S 11. Kevin Gladney WR 12. Greg Hart TE 13. Antoine Miles DL or DE
  17. I didn't intend for this to be a cut and dried list where only my opinion counts. Anyone is welcome to make their own and tell me where they think I am wrong. The easiest way would have been to use recruiting ratings and leave my opinion out of it. My only intention was to rate the kids depending on how soon I see them getting playing time. Randy Gregory seems the most logical choice for #1. #'s 5-12 probably need a year to get stronger and learn the system before seeing the field. To me this points out the need to recruit several juco's to fill out the team for the next few years till the young guys are ready.
  18. While it is impossible to rate players who occupy different positions against each other, this is my list of who will make the most impact the soonest. Only one player is likely to get much playing time this next year. The rest will probably redshirt depending on injuries or defections to current players. 1. Randy Gregory DE Juco. Rated as one of the top juco De's in the country. If his broken leg heals he could be a force on next years defense. 2. Adam Taylor RB. If injuries occur at this position he could be on the 3 deep next year. 3. Gabe Miller (Long snapper) These guys usually go nameless unless the snap is bad. He should start next year for punts and place kicks. 4. Josh Banderas, Marcus Newby, Courtney Love LB. Likely redshirt but could see the field if last years crop of Lb's don't pan out. This next group is rated by what I see as future potential to the team. 5. Johnny Stanton QB. 6. Marcus McWilson S 7. AJ Natter DE 8. Zach Hannon and Dan Samuelson OL 9. Nathan Gerry S 10. Kevin Gladney WR 11. Greg Hart TE 12. Antoine Miles DL or DE Jonathan Cook is a current commit who seems to want to stay in the SEC if the offer comes. I don't look for him to be a Husker much longer.
  19. Given that our team is deep in LB's, DB's and RB's I see the biggest need is at OL and DL. Losing our top two TE's also means we need immediate help there. My list of needs would be this: 1. (2) quality juco linemen. Hooks and Russell seem to be the best options at this point. Maliek Collins seems like a good high school project. 2. (2) quality Offensive tackles. The big strong guys who can anchor a line and protect a Qb in the Big 10. David Kneval, Aaron Cochran, (Juco) Matt Finnin, Cameron Hunt (Cal commit) received an offer this week. With Tedford gone he is looking elsewhere. None of these guys are a sure thing so keep your fingers crossed. 3. Tight end. Beau Sandland looks to be the best juco guy out there and has us high on his list. Some say he is ours to lose but that may not be the case if Vince Marrow leaves for Kentucky. Beau would be an immediate starter if he comes. Brandon Vandenburg is another juco option who has an offer from us.
  20. Western Kentucky who lost their coach to South Florida has hired Bobby Petrino as head coach. It was only a matter of time before someone made an offer. Bobby will have plenty of flat space to ride his Harley now.
  21. Three more solid receivers for what will be a fine offense in the years to come. Excellent Qb's and solid running backs for the forseeable future. The skill people are in place.
  22. I think this offense could be something very special if we can add a couple great tackles. The Qbs, Rb's and receivers are all in place and this years recruits will only make us deeper. Our current line is decent to good at times but needs an upgrade for us to be great. Hopefully David can see that and want to be a part of something special. Plus he's a cold weather guy and the Big 10 should be a great fit. He would quickly tire of the heat and humidity in Bama.
  23. It would be great to have Cochran and Kneval anchoring the tackle positions when Armstrong and Stanton are the Qb's. Add them to the good lineman that are redshirting this year and we'll be pretty solid up front.
  24. Bob Devaney's first 3 years were good ones. He then had two 6-4 years and there was some grumbling that maybe he couldn't recruit and had won with another coaches players. 1967 and 1968 about cost Bob his job. The "67 losses were all close and 3 of the 4 losses in 68 were close but we were blown out by Okla 47-0. In "69 we started the season 2-2 with losses to USC and Missouri. The Huskers finished strong however beating Okla 44-14 in Norman and ended with a win vs Georgia in El Paso 45-6. This win did propel the Huskers to an 11-0-1 record and the National Championship. Mike Green the FB mentioned many times in the above video and Joe Orduna were also from Omaha. Didn't realize Larry Frost was from Malcomb Ne. Dana Stephenson was from Lincoln.
  25. It is hard to blame a kid who wants to play for his home state school. I hope he decides quickly so our coaches know how to plan..
