  1. Verduzco is the coolest cat this side of the Mason-Dixon line.
  2. That particular blurb from the article above was referring to Frost.
  3. Heading into fall camp I was leaning towards Gebbia. This is just preseason banter here, nothing to back this up - but the longer they've waited the more I've suspected that they've been wanting it to be Martinez and have been seeing improvement in him and will wind up going with Martinez. Total speculation. Martinez was a more highly recruited guy. If Martinez hadn't signed with us, I would feel 100% perfect about Tristan leading this team. It's almost too close to call.
  4. Pushing both players to give everything they've got is a win/win for the team and for both guys. This staff knows exactly what it's doing. Verduzco is probably my favorite to listen to.
  5. Holy s*** that Greg Austin quote is awesome.
  6. And again, it's about making the reads in this offense. There are some crazy motions, formations, and movement in this playbook. When the play is executed correctly, the defense is exposed, and if the QB makes the right read the exposure gets exploited. I can't wait to see Frost open up the field for Morgan, Spielman, Lindsey, Mike Williams, & Co.
  7. Ha. Well, not too surprising that we don't have an announcement at QB yet. This staff knows what it's doing. There is seriously no doubt about it.
  8. Where we finish in the West this year probably has more to do with Iowa's cross-divisional schedule. They don't play two tough teams from the East, just one - they play at Penn State. So, just as Wisconsin has benefited the past several seasons, Iowa has higher odds of losing fewer games. We play three tough teams from the East. If we lose all three of our tough cross-divisional games, lose to Wisconsin, but beat Iowa, we'd be at four conference losses. Odds are they're not going to lose more than three conference games. They'll lose to Wisconsin, Penn State, and probably us. But will they lose to a Northwestern or Minnesota? I guess it doesn't matter. I'm only going to start caring about where we finish in our division when we start winning it, which will probably be next season.
  9. I'd say that's cherry picking for sure. That one little tidbit (that may or may not even be true) doesn't mean that Frost & Verduzco are prioritizing running ability over decision making and passing accuracy. I feel very sure of that. Milton was not that fast and was not a really dynamic runner. If memory serves, the only QB last year with a higher passer rating was the #1 pick in the NFL draft. His legs were not what made UCF's offense so deadly. It was his arm.
  10. Yes, for sure. A lot of the stuff we've been talking about lately. I'm sure it's an extremely tough decision. I seriously can't wait for the announcement.
  11. Yep, and I think that when Frost gets his offense rolling 2-3 seasons from now Wisconsin will start dreading us and we'll start consistently beating them. I do remember how Stanford had a run of 3-4 seasons where they got the better of Oregon. Stanford had a stout defense, but they'd also grind out long drives that kept Oregon's offense off the field. Have to shut down Wisconsin's ground game.
  12. Here's a question: Are we more likely to beat Michigan or a Michigan State team that returns 19 starters?
  13. Being ranked is a pretty good recruiting tool. My guess is that we'd reasonably only be ranked this year right after the Iowa game if we were to beat them by a couple of touchdowns. I don't see us beating Michigan to be honest.
  14. Definitely agree on the parameters that go into the ranking. But they benefited quite a bit from a pretty weak schedule last season. This year's is a bit tougher for them, but that all changes in 2019 when they'll run the gamut of playing Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State. At any rate...
  15. I think that it's honestly borderline ridiculous to think that Wisconsin is actually the #4 team in the country. Ohio State is in that "Top Tier" of teams. I really don't think Wisconsin is. At any rate, it'll be great if they're ranked in the Top 5 in Madison.
  16. Only thing to do right now is to see the glass as half full with a staff that has an actual road map to success. I'm not worried at all about playing several freshmen that will occasionally miss their assignment this season. I'm hoping to set things up for 2019 and 2020. That, and also if we can fix our fundamentals on defense it could look like a night and day different defense, period. I'm glad to hear the coaches calling out missed tackles in the secondary.
  17. Yes, I said just that when I said "probably not that hard."
  18. Although it's not a movement that would be seen much in a football weight room, one-armed bent rows where one knee is rested on a bench. That's an assistance movement powerlifters would do fairly commonly with heavy dumbbells.
  19. Please this one, please this one, PLEASE THIS ONE...
  20. But the best part is, we actually have two freshmen fighting for the spot! There's so much promise brimming here, no matter which guy starts against Akron. And to boot, we now finally have a staff that won't mismanage a roster.
  21. I haven't read through every post in this thread, and this is just preseason banter. From what I believe I know about Frost's offense, this seems to be the order of importance in skill set from his QB: 1. Decision making ability. 2. Accuracy. 3. Running ability. Milton wasn't exactly super fast. Don't over-analyze these comparisons, but he probably runs about like Ganz did or maybe Chase Daniel at Missouri. Meaning, more than good enough to make it a high octane Chip Kelly zone read offense. I think we know that running ability isn't going to trump the first two requirements, so Martinez's running ability isn't going to edge out Gebbia if Martinez isn't as good in the first two aspects. Hard to say how hard Riley was really making Gebbia work in practice last season (probably not that hard), but still, he has a whole extra year of "football time" that Martinez didn't have, especially since Martinez sat out all of last year due to injury. In the spring game, it kind of seemed like Martinez wasn't hanging in the pocket and making reads as much as his first instinct was to take off and run. Yes, yes...it was four months ago and he could have come a long ways since then, for sure. It's a coin toss. I don't know how anyone could feel sure who it's going to be, but if I was forced to guess, I'd guess it's Gebbia. I just have a feeling Gebbia edges Martinez out slightly in the first two elements. But, I'll be really happy either way.
  22. Definitely hear what you're saying, but we've had such a drought on offense the past two seasons that I'm thinking we'll be happy with any system that consistently gets the ball in the end zone.
