  1. Holy f***. Attention, huskerboard: jessica0 is very likely cm husker. Serious. You needed to not bring up Navy to keep your cover. That was a tactical error.
  2. @KingBlank - As much as I wish at times that I wasn't watching our team lose to Northern Illinois and get blown out by Wisconsin, I can tell you that I am watching. There was definitely an inability to adjust, there's no doubt. Agreed. The one thing that seems most logical to try to do is the thing we haven't done yet. Frustrating.
  3. There really isn't anything objectively wrong with Riley's offense. There's nothing that sticks out in the playbook as being a scheme that can't win championships. As you go on to point out, it's the line play. Imagine also a scenario where not only our offensive line is playing roughly as well as say, Michigan State & Penn State's but also one where Bryant is suffering from chronic knee stuff. This offense is a good one, there's practically no doubt in my mind. But our offensive line play has been bad in this first half of the season. And it's killing us and as you mention, it's quite possibly the main factor that will lead to Riley's firing. *Edit: I meant to say Michigan & Penn State
  4. I really agree that he could be cm. I thought of that just after I explained to him who cm was, LOL.
  5. It's a great question, Toe. One thing that I think that we're possibly seeing is the switch to even so many high school teams running the spread out of the shotgun. In this scheme, linemen even at the high school level are being taught more of a zone blocking technique. What we're doing is a 5-7 step drop scheme a lot of the time. This requires specific technique from your linemen. So if we don't have a good offensive line coach to coach for this scheme, the product will look bad. And, it has looked bad. So I'd love for Riley to fire Cavanaugh at this point. Effective immediately, to be honest.
  6. While I do think that Frost is potentially as good of a candidate as any to be "that next up and comer," one of my primary concerns is whether or not he brings in a supporting staff that can recruit and coach. Right now, our defensive coaching actually is decent. We're struggling a ton on coaching on the offensive side of the ball. Position coaching in the college game is huge because the player is still learning to play the game. Does Frost bring in a great supporting staff that's that much better than what we have? Maybe. And in before the "it would be impossible to be worse than the current coordinators/position coaches!!!!!111" comments. But nevertheless, there really isn't a single shred of evidence that he would.
  7. The problem with Riley's timeline thus far is that we're seeing now that his supporting cast that he brought from Oregon State was just not good enough to take us back into relevance. He's now fired, what? His DC, his secondary coach, and his defensive line coach. I like the fact that he made those changes; they speak to his competetive nature - I'm glad he made those changes, for sure. But now he's absolutely looking at needing to fire his offensive line coach. For as much as we've missed on bringing in a bit better offensive line talent, there just isn't the OL development that we need. And on top of that, Riley really doesn't even coach in-game; he leaves it up to his coordinators. This is a staff scheme where without the right position coaches and coordinators, it just doesn't work. It's not working. And in my estimation, it's completely correctable by Riley. He's corrected some of these issues but there are just so many more. Nevertheless, I still couldn't say for sure that Riley will be fired after this season. Quite possible.
  8. @Isle of View - Sorry - I had meant to quote 'fire mike' and I quoted you by accident. There was a poster named 'cm husker' that was in instant thread-destroyer here a little while back.
  9. LOL. A handle I had honestly been fortunate enough to have forgotten...until you brought it up.
  10. If we win one out of two against Ohio State & Penn State and then win all the rest, we'd have two conference losses. Wisconsin plays Michigan and has already beaten us. Chances of Wisconsin losing three games so that we go to Indy in this scenario? Basically zero.
  11. Wow. I wish we could move away from making comments like this on this board. There are other ways of phrasing that sentence to get your point across.
  12. I think that you might have given a description of your prediction versus your expectation. But, I see what you're saying.
  13. Which is so ironic and frustrating because that was one of the very few times that we could say that about a Bo Pelini defense competing in the Big 10. It was practically all down hill from there in big games.
  14. We need more threads like this on huskerboard. This might be a little bit simplistic, but I think another thing that we can say is that Riley's first two classes that reached the .87 mark might have gotten inflated at the skill positions, while where we really needed the star power was at offensive line. Then as also mentioned in this thread, Riley had a bit of a reluctance to play some of the younger guys in year one to get them ready. There were pros and cons in the moment, but now they feel like practically 100% cons in hindsight. Not a good situation to be in.
  15. Obviously a full game of good football is better than two quarters of good football. Is the guy better than banker? Not sure yet. I'll have an opinion after we play the last six games.
  16. I have to give him the benefit of the doubt to a great extent. Up to the point where they drove down the field after we got the pick six they only had 10 points on offense in roughly, what, 2.5 quarters? Our defense performed well enough up to that point. It just all hit pretty quickly from that point. He should have adjusted to bring his secondary in closer to the line after that moment in hindsight, but that was just one drive. Then they ran that same counter run play over and over on the next one, we went down by 14. Then they did it again. Being blown out was rough, but our offense didn't score a single point in the second half. Diaco just needs to be willing to really key in on the run when the moment calls for it.
  17. My main contention @ColoradoHusk is just our fan base's propensity to find unprecedented ways to complain when things aren't working and to draw the bizarre conclusion that it's because it doesn't look exactly like it did in 1995. Probably a lot of hair splitting all around here. I believe everyone agrees that we'd all be happy to take whatever would actually bring success back to the program.
