  1. You must have not watched any of our games starting from halftime against Ohio State.
  2. But to be fair to Beck, you can't possibly blame an interception solely on the play call. That's a dead horse that was beaten senseless after the Wisconsin game. Beck admitted to calling too many pass plays in that game - let's just get over that one. An interception could be a combination of the following things or any one of them on their own: 1. Simply an inaccurate throw by the QB 2. An outstanding read and play made by the opponent's secondary 3. The wrong play being called at the right time
  3. With that said then, I think it comes back full circle to dissecting Beck's ability to: A) Assess the abilities of what his players can do as individuals B) Assess what they excel at in practice as a unit C) Asses what they excel at doing in games cumulatively as the season goes on D) Exploit defensive weaknesses in the other team E) Combine A - D in a way that organizes play calls sensibly. 'E' is totally subjective, so it's hard to grade either way.
  4. You would almost think that it would with the surprising lack of them.
  5. Those letters are truly inspiring! I'm glad that the overwhelming majority on both sides reported nothing but positives.
  6. No attack here AH, but I will point out the very obvious fact that you continually do this after games where we play one of the better defenses in the country. Penn State has a very solid D-Line. We scored more points than 2/3 of the teams they've played this year...our O-line is definitely improving.
  7. Exactly, and thank you for pointing to this. His mechanics have little to nothing to do with our offensive success at this point. It does seem that his passes get batted down a bit more than the average college QB, but what can you? His progress is just so amazing. And not only that, but his potential is really what is crazy to think about at this point. I really believe that we're legitimately in national title contention next season if his improvement continues at this rate. Footwork aside I think that is one thing that can partially be attributed to his mechanics. He's only 6'1" so he's already got the taller linemen to deal with, but when you add in the sidearm motion it really doesn't help at all in this aspect. Oh, agreed. Sidearming the ball falls under the category of mechanics. And sidearming will generally make it more likely that passes are batted down. I think though that roughly one batted-down ball per game is a fine trade-off for the level of accuracy that he's producing at this point. Couple that with his presence as a total field general, and our offense is heading in the right direction as much as it could possibly be, with the exception of the continued drops.

    Kinnie

Kinnie is on his way out, so at this point it's really less of an issue with him. The other guys are pretty young, and I think that with the new receivers coach that we have now these issues will be sorted out in time. Drops have not determined our two losses this season, so there's really no argument there. Getting it sorted out by next season is what is really important at this point.

  10. We could still possibly end up being ranked inside the top 10 at the end of the regular season, which would put us squarely into contention for an at-large BCS bid. The B1G title would be the real prize, but going 10-2 in the regular season (which is still counting the proverbial chickens before they're hatched) would be a pretty great accomplishment considering how rough our schedule really is this season. Winning these next two would feel amazing, even if Michigan State doesn't lose out to Northwestern. And they won't.
  11. I don't understand why this is so difficult. Football and the tragedy are two separate issues with regards to the 60 minutes of competition tomorrow. We're concerned for our fans' safety, in large part, due to the RIOTING that happened two days ago. That absolutely stands to reason. It's just totally ridiculous for anyone to say that a Husker fan being concerned for their own safety is making Saturday about "them" and not about the victims. They're two entirely separate issues - why is that so hard to understand?
  12. On offense, we have GOT to get our speed on the field with good timing. This may be running tunnel screens or end arounds to Turner/Bell on 1st & 2nd downs. Turner has got to be a part of this game. Also, running that hitch to BK or KB on 1st & 2nd wouldn't hurt, either. I think we need a slightly healthier mix in the first half to get us closer to success on offense. The option just isn't cutting it, it would seem. We might as well run the power toss to one of the Fab Three if we're looking to exploit the edges. Throw in the steady dose of power-run Rex with a little more rotating him in/out and the occasional look down field by Taylor, and I think we can actually score a lot of points in this game.
  13. I was just one year out of mine I have an aunt that's from Happy Valley...so this type of stuff has gone round and round in circles with her and my side of the family from Lincoln for my whole life.
  14. Our players and coaches are not in a difficult position. They're playing a game that's been on the schedule for quite some time. Business as usual for the team itself. Now for our traveling fans...that's probably a different story.
  15. Go back and look at Choi vs. Washington. He had an incredible game. Pulling ability and speed to progress and chip linebackers is very evident, not just his brute strength. He's very talented.
  16. Agreed here - I'm not sure why it's shocking, either. But the one difference though is that Taylor's completion percentage is actually better than the glory QB's. So it's almost not even an accurate comparison. Whether Bo said it or not, it's just way too simplistic. It doesn't really translate into the blatantly obvious aspects of 60 minutes of football being played on the field. What does it mean? Does it mean that you hope you start every offensive drive on your opponent's 20 and make those opportunities count? That's literally how ridiculous that sounds. Getting the ball into the red zone is equally as important as red zone play itself. To say otherwise is just denial of the obvious.
  17. This is so completely contradictory^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ How else can passing success be measured, other than stats? You tried to explain it away by claiming that Taylor hits the wrong receivers, but seriously...come on!! He threw for 75% on Saturday. That's right, 75%! That's outstanding, by anyone's measure of success in CFB.
  18. What part of completion percentage don't people understand? It literally is the only thing that matters. It doesn't matter how it gets there...it matters how often it gets there.
  19. this board, this free to everyone board, it is not our job. it is not rivals though we would like to treat it like that. our job is to perform, but hey, even if we don't make an agreeable point, we still get a load of shoot. all these poster have to post is for pride. most will never see the next level, start a blog, or get published. some will leave, some will become mods. and occasionally they will recount the glory days when their post got more than four '+1's' because they had a moment of inspiration on the can and how amazing it was just to get recognized. but you sit there behind your glass box and be critical of every little thought they post. who are you to judge someones life or how they post? how would you feel if there was one dude criticizing your posts, or judging your grammar? no poster likes to be put under the microscope and be picked and prodded on everything they do or don't post. i want you to think about this, huskerboard members, we have been victims of our own need for agreeable posts. i would hate to see that happen again. sd'sker...this was a masterpiece of a reply. Kudos to this beautifully crafted work of sarcastic ownage.
  20. This...in part. He hasn't mastered the option. When we call the option, 90% of the time he pitches, and pitches early at that. He understands the zone read quite a bit more it seems because he ran it last year as well. We have still had a certain level of success with the option...but it hasn't opened up the big runs. If he could master the option a bit more, it could open up breakaway runs. I think the version of the zone read sweep play that Watson called (waaaaaaaaaaaay too much and became extremely predictable) last season is in the distant past. Beck just isn't going to call that version of the zone read much, if at all. On a different aspect of Taylor's game...his accuracy was just awesome on Saturday. It's great to see him growing game by game in his passing ability. He is developing at a very good rate at this point, in my opinion.
  21. You nailed it. He has a bizarre affinity for the "It's never good enough!" syndrome. We beat a top 10 team with a top 5 offense. Not good enough. facepalm.jpeg
  22. Actually, Taylor's completion percentage is in the mid 50's. At around the middle mark of the season, I saw some stats where he actually has a higher career completion rate than Frazier, Frost, and Crouch. Maybe you were being sarcastic about the 50% thing, not sure. Like it or not, we're recruiting QB's for their legs first, arm second. You can see that in Carnes and verbal commit Tommy Armstrong.
