  1. I'd like to know of any place as well... I don't have DirectTV, so any place that will have the game on would be beneficial.
  2. I'm an officer, but I've been an NCO in two services (Marines and Air Force). It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up... still haven't made a decision yet, ha!
  3. Well, as some of you might now, I am in the Air Force and spent Jan - May in Balad, Iraq. I had a great time, probably one of the best experiences of my life, but I am glad to be back home with my family. I recently changed assignments, moving from Charleston AFB, to Ames, Iowa. I'll be teaching at the University in the Air Force ROTC program. I'll be here probably around 3 years. I'm excited; I love teaching, and most of all, I love being back in Big 12 country. I'll get to view more Big 12 games on TV, as well as attend some Nebraska games (in Lincoln where I am from), as well as some ISU games here on campus. I already purchased 3 tickets here at ISU. They had a special $99 deal that I couldn't pass up. I get: Kent State at Iowa State Nebraska at Iowa State Missouri at Iowa State It'll be weird; the only other Big 12 game I've been to live is the Big 12 Championship between K-State and Oklahoma... Still, I can't wait to cheer for my Huskers again! Did I say I was excited? GO BIG RED!
  4. Uh... I would say my time at work from 6:30am to 5:00pm.. I spend 3 - 4 hours browsing multiple husker related boards and sites...
  5. Wouldn't that be something? A guy with Nebraska tradition and a consistent NFL defensive genius. Check out this article written about him in 2003. http://www.sptimes.com/2003/01/18/Columns/...__Genius_.shtml He's older, but he's healthy and full of energy for a man half his age.
  6. Haha, good advice. Man, I am so looking forward to this... and the kicker is I get to deploy to Iraq for 4 months before I sell my house, buy a new one, and move the family a month later!
  7. So I am in the Air Force... and I found out today that I was selected to be an ROTC Professor for Iowa State University... Now I'm a die-hard, red-bleeding, corn-eating, ruff-n-tuff CORNHUSKER from my head to my toes... and I plan on showing it every fricken time I can while on campus. The great news about this job is that I'll be 3 hours from Lincoln (and grandparents who can watch my kids) . Of course the bad part is that I'll be surrounded by 'clones. I'll be able to attend games, visit family, and damn if I am super excited about that! So, where is the best place to meet with husker fans close to Ames? Should I just drive to Omaha... if I do that, I might as well head to Lincoln! DAMNIT THIS ROCKS! WOOHOO!!!
  8. Hey guys, My new boss, a Colonel from Florida, is a huge Florida Gators fan. He has a lot of pictures and gator stuff in his office, and we've already had some fun jabbing about football. Can anyone offer me some sites that list facts about Florida football and Nebraska football, i.e. things like # of championships, # of Heisman winners, Academic All Americans, etc... Anything that I can use in a funn 'sheet' to give him highlighting Nebraska over Florida. Thanks in advance!
  9. I am in South Carolina, at Charleston AFB, only 4 hours away! Where can I purchase tickets?
  10. In watching the OU vs. NU game, the announcers mentioned something about OU's defense. They said that Stoops felt it was MUCH more important to have the Defense work on speed than it was to work on schemes. So, with those thoughts, he has his #1 Defense go against his #1 Offense, instead of the typical #Defense vs. the Scout Team. Additionally, IIRC, Peleni was similar. He had a very simplified Defense that let the players play the game instead of having to think of complicated schemes. If you have to think before acting, then you are already at a disadvantage. In today's game, offenses are much more capable. If you play a Defense that is reactive, I think you set up for failure. Think about it this way. I'd say 9 out of 10 times, if I am on Offense and running a route, I can move faster than a DB, not necessarily because I am faster, but because he has to react to my movements, which can also be misdirected. So, what am I saying? Well, I am in no way a football expert. But, I think we need to go to this type of philiosophy. I think our D-Line and Linebackers should do WAY more blitzing, becoming proactive (instead of reactive), and I think our secondary should play very simple schemes that puts them in position to play against an opponents passing and recieving weaknesses. Oh well, I just felt like ranting.
  11. I actually agree with you. It gets very old hearing the same old stuff over and over again from coaches and from sports analysts. Like you said, when coaches are asked about another team, all you hear is political crap. When coaches are asked about players, or about how the game went, you hear political crap. What makes college football so great is the EMOTION from these kids, and I personally like having my coaches the same way. I enjoyed it when Pelini took away blackshirts from players, when he yelled at officials, and when he yelled at other coaches.
  12. In our only away game this season, we saw a gameplan that everyone questioned; run the ball. Do you think it might be a smart gameplan vs ISU, or do you think we'll plan to go against their poor secondary defense.... It seems obvious to us that we would attack their defensive backfield, but how many times have things appeared obvious to us fans, but Cally did something totally different? So what do you think Cally will do and what would you want us to do?
  13. Callahan is 2 - 6 in Big 12 road games. We just showed some major weaknesses in defense. What will your reaction be if the Huskers go 0 - 4 in our next 4 games (3 away, 1 at home against Texas)? I don't think it will happen, but what would happen in Husker nation?
  14. Anyone tell me what it says for Summerville, South Carolina area (Time Warner Cable). I can't access the map from work....
  15. Something that I am really, really starting to worry about is the attitude of our defense. If you think about it, many husker fans (a most knowledgeable bunch) are really questioning the playcalling of Cosgrove. Why? Because it 'appears' to us, the fans, and even many sportswriters, that Nebraska is not playing to our strengths. I am just wondering if this attitude will start filtering its way into the players.... Hearing comments from our players, such as: "Our hands were tied" "Miscommunication" "We've got to get some things straightened out" Also, playing a 4-3 defense, making our linebackers play DBs and forcing our d-linemen to hold back for fear of a run up the gut, has got to make the players second guess the playcalling. I hope this game doesn't cause any dissension and I hope the seniors are in the middle making sure it doesn't, but I also hope that Cosgrove starts pinning his ears back a little. I saw fire and desire in OT from the defense.... from the d-line and linebackers. Why? Because they got to do what they are good at; do what they are really meant to do... try and eat the quarterback. In my honest, but hopefully wrong opinion, if we continue to play this way against other Big 12 teams, we are going to lose. I mean come on.... I blitz nearly every down in NCAA Football 2006 and I kill my oponents....
  16. Per the CFN site, this is there view of USC, per their week 2 rankings: 1. USC (1-0) Off This Week next game: Nebraska Be careful. Be very, very careful. Nebraska is absolutely good enough to waltz into L.A. and hang 450 yards and 38 points on the board if the Trojan D isn’t fully prepared. However, USC is absolutely good enough to torch the mediocre Husker secondary (don’t let the zero passing yards allowed against Nicholls State fool you) and roll to the type of blowout win that’ll make the rest of the nation finally wake up and realize that this is the most talented team in college football. So what do you think? Are they really the #1 team in the nation? Oh, and this is what they say about us: 15. Nebraska (2-0) W, Nicholls State 56-7 next game: at USC O.K. Nebraska, you want to be a player? You want to be big-time again? Here’s your chance. Beat USC at USC and you just might be the number one team in the country. At the very least you’ll be in the CFN top three.
  17. I would like your opinions on these four stats for our IB's. Rate them 1 - 4 in the following: Speed Catching Breaking Tackles Blocking I am just curious as to what your observations are from what we've seen so far.
  18. First off, I think I need to make it clear that the DB position is one of the hardest to play in college football. As a DB, you are always in REACTION mode. The WR has his route, knows where he is going, and will always be 'one step ahead'. As a DB you are constantly reacting to his moves, as well as reacting to the line (watching for a running play and watching the quarterback). It's impossible to stop a passing game. However, there are ways to make improvements. Here are my thoughts: Grixby: I know what the coaches say.... but 5'9" does NOT cut it in college football. He can jump high, have lots of heart, and have lots of 'skill', but that only goes so far. It's hard to jump and knockdown a pass when you are reacting to a WR and trying to keep an eye on the ball. I think, if I were the coach, I would get my freshmen in there, as well as Tyrell Spain. Spain is a Jr. He has quickness. I think having that 6'3" frame makes a great wall. If I were a QB, I would think twice about throwing his direction, especially if he was taller than my WR. It cuts visibility and takes away that 'jump ball' throw. I think about the 2003? season, with Bo Pelini. This was the year we played a lot of zone defense and had the most picks that year. I keep thinking how that was one of the best types of secondary defense's that I've seen. This might be something we consider doing more of. Of course, yesterday we had like 6 blitz's, and I hope more of those will only help our secondary, by giving the QB less time to wait for a WR to get open.
  19. Ya know, I never ever post. I prefer just reading and enojoying my Huskers... but this stirred me a little. Maybe it's me, but I pretty much like all Big 12 teams, and root for them all when playing other conference teams. I don't *hate" any of them. Maybe it's how I was raised; maybe it's sportsmanship; or maybe I'm just not a h8r. In my opinion, our historic Oklahoma rivals, are one of my favorite teams; just because they ARE our rivals. I will root for them all the way (until they play us of course). I also don't care who is coaching them, for I know that Oklahoma football is WAY more than who their coach is. I guess I can understand where this guy is coming from. I dislike Notre Dame, for their arrogance and special treatment they get. The same can be said for Colorado.... but Colorado is a *little* different. Their 'fans' have been disrespectful in the past, on numerous occassions, and I just have a sour taste in my mouth from it. However, I still am far from 'hating' them. I will still applaud them when they leave our field. I guess in the end I just have to say "Love your enemy, play hard, and let the best team win." Go Huskers!
  20. Nunn was a primary reciever, and learning the West Coast offense as a reciever was his first goal. Grixby was also new and had to learn a new defensive scheme. Both, from what I hear, had problems catching last year as well, which they worked on during spring, summer, and fall.
  21. Great points made. Any given Saturday, any team can beat another.
  22. I look forward to every game, and since there are so many unanswered questions, it's still VERY VERY exciting.
  23. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Since birth (1975) 2) What/who led you to The Nation? It's in my blood. 3) Where are you from originally? Lincoln 4) Where do you live now? South Carolina (in the Air Force) 5) Favorite Husker memory? All of them 6) Worst Husker memory? Any time we lose. 7) Number of home games attended? 10 8) Number of away games attended? 1 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? Pickins are slim, since I am away from Nebraska. I wear my hat most of all, and always fly my big "N" on game days. 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? Anywhere there are other husker fans. 11) Favorite all time player? Mike Rozier 12) WCO or Option? Option 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Steve-O 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? There is a place in my heart for both. 15) Favorite Husker play? Fumblerooski 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Not a drinker, so anything will do. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? I can't access rivals, due to the firewall, so I found this site today.
  24. I noticed last year, in the beginning of the season, Ross had a hard time keeping his balance. His forward momentum caused him to 'fall forward'. After a few games he found his rhythm and this stopped. I saw the same thing when I re-watched the game a couple days ago. Many times he fell forward. His little legs get so excited he overreacts and falls forward. I think he will be better in a few games.
