  2. I like Mitchell. That was a horrible effort on that tackle. I won't hold it against him. He's a baller and a good leader. He just made a poor effort on that one. He had a pretty poor game for whatever reason. That play was the worst. I don't expect it to happen again.
  3. Maybe but they have a long road ahead of them. @MSU, @Ole Miss, @Georgia, @Alabama
  4. What would be fun to watch is if somehow there is a three-way tie for the SEC west at 6-2 and the SEC champ has two losses. Then the FSU/Notre Dame winner is undefeated and the loser has one loss. Then either Baylor or Oklahoma only has one loss. And someone from the Pac-12 somehow finishes with only one loss. Imagine the fireworks about whether a two-loss SEC champ would be in over some other one-loss conference champ (or Notre Dame)
  5. Two more undefeated teams will fall this weekend - loser of Auburn/MissSt and Baylor/TCU. It's very unlikely that anyone other than Florida State in the ACC will have fewer than two losses. Florida State will have all they can handle from Notre Dame next week and probably Louisville the week after that. Arizona is the only undefeated in the Pac-12 and plays USC, UCLA and AZSt. Every current one-loss team in the Pac-12 at least three very-losable games left and that's before the Pac-12 title game. Notre Dame still has Florida State, Arizona State, and USC on the schedule. Florida State has the best chance to be undefeated because, despite all the ragging on the B1G, the ACC is worse. Notre Dame could go undefeated if they beat FSU but they still have work to do. I doubt anyone else is undefeated. It won't surprise me if either the SEC or Pac-12 champ has two losses. The SEC champ and a one-loss Florida State team will have two playoff spots. Notre Dame might get a spot even with one loss A one-loss Pac-12 champ will be in. Going to be tough with two losses. A one-loss Big XII champ will be in but those teams have a long ways to go to finish with one loss. A one-loss B1G champ is likely behind any other one-loss conference champ but I don't think there's going to be as many of those as you'd expect.
  6. It's tough to get a lot of guys a lot of reps. I would say a lot of the problem this year is the depth chart keeps fluctuating. Bell hasn't finished a couple games. Burtch was in and out of practice and is now gone. Reilly has been mostly out but looks to be back now. Guys like Hovey and DPE aren't expected to be in the regular rotation but they've had to play more with the injuries ahead of them.
  7. And that's the big problem. He is consistent. Very consistent. So it if it's true that it's completely up to him when to snap (following the clap), a coach or player should have told him to mix it up sometime midway through the first quarter. one would think a guy would mix it up.I noticed when I rewatched the game that TA only used a double clap about 3 times. Once was on Cotton's false start. The other two, after he had clapped once and audibles, Calhoun knew the next clap was the hike and got a better jump then on any regular count. The fake clap got used a couple times, but it isn't as effective. They need to change the pause time between clap and hike. Agree. It seems like most games the sequence is varied a lot more. It wasn't much in this game for whatever reason.
  8. Visiting Michigan State for the Ohio State game on Nov. 8. Setting up a visit to West Virginia Oct. 18. We're still working on him pretty hard.
  9. Taysom Hill's leg is apparently completely destroyed. Broken and tore all three ligaments in his knee. Not sure if he'll play next year. Terrible for him.
  10. Cooper is a strong candidate for most disappointing player so far. Bando's not going down without a fight though. I've not been a Cooper fan for some time. I was looking for a Gerry/Alexander tandem since the middle of last season but obviously that didn't work out. With all the flak Bando gets for being slow, I'm pretty surprised that I've not seen any of the same complaints from Cooper. I said in the spring that Cooper is slightly above average but Alexander and Gerry are game-changers. Gerry supposedly wouldn't have started until Alexander took himself out, though I claimed he would have started chipping away at Cooper's snaps as the season wore on.. Now, halfway through the season, he's our leading tackler with 37 including four TFLs, 3 QB hurries, 1 INT, 1 INT called back, 1 pass breakup and one forced fumble. Cooper has 25 tackles, no TFLs, 1 QB hurry, 1 INT (a gift on a desperation heave as he fell on his butt), no pass breakups and no forced fumbles.
  11. Connor Cook: 2013 B1G CCG - 24-40, 60%, 304 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT - B1G Champion, MVP vs. then #2 and undefeated tOSU 2014 Rose Bowl - 22-36, 61%, 332 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT - Rose Bowl Champion vs. Pac-12 Champion Stanford 10/4/14 vs. NU - 11-29, 38%, 234 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT In he goes.
  12. Fake Coach Miles ‏@FakeCoachMiles 2h2 hours ago Apparently the Michigan State student section were the only Spartans not clapping on Saturday. #huskers
  13. And then there was one - 4Q 1:07 1&10 -20, pistol with doubles both ways - play action, AA is wide open in the flat but TA fires it by him 2&10 -20, pistol with doubles both ways - TA hit Moore with a great pass down the sideline 1&10 +37, pistol with doubles both ways - TA to Moore in the end zone, incomplete 2&10 +37, pistol with doubles both ways - INT
  14. Sixteenth Possession - 4Q 5:47 1&10 -32, pistol trips right - MSU is way offsides, TA rolls out but short hops Allen 1&5 -37, pistol with doubles both sides - TA throws off his back foot and it's almost an INT but Westy catches the deflection and races up the sidelines 1&10 +22, pistol TE right - TA hits Hovey in the flat 2&2 +14, pistol TE trips left - zone read to AA 1&10 +12, pistol TE trips left - TA throws off his back foot and sails it over Moore. MSU flagged for pass interference 1&G +2, pistol TE trips left - zone read to AA with nowhere to go 2&G +1, pistol HB trips left - Power G to AA for the TD
  15. Fifteenth Possession - 4Q 11:54 1&10 -40, pistol with doubles both ways - play action, TA hits Westy over the middle 1&10 +41, pistol trips right - TA stands in against the pressure and fires a pass into Moore but he doesn't come up with it 2&10 +41, pistol HB trips right - Lewis is beat and holds, TA scrambles and heaves a dangerous pass the Moore almost comes up with. In Lewis' defense, TA can't take a big drop when he's already in pistol or shotgun. Almost no way to block for him that far behind the line. If he steps up into the pocket, he's got good protection 2&20 -49, pistol HB left - TA hits Westy on the out 3&6 +37, pistol TE right - TA has good protection but his mechanics are poor and he short hops an open Moore. Would have been a first down 4&6 +37, pistol with doubles both sides - MSU shows pressure and we don't pick up the outside rusher. Incomplete pass.
  16. For the record, on the last four possessions we've gotten a TD, should have had a TD but got a FG and had two drives stopped on plays where they simulated our snap count and missed a two point conversion on a play where we were confused about when to snap it.
  17. Fourteenth Possession - 4Q 14:00 1&10 +43, pistol HB left - dropback pass called but TA pulls it down and scrambles for good yardage. TA injured on the play 1&10 +32, pistol HB right - play action, Fyfe throws the corner but Westerkamp run an out. Illegal hands to the face on MSU 1&10 +17, pistol with doubles both sides - play action, Fyfe overthrows an open Westerkamp in the end zone 2&10 +17, pistol with doubles both sides - rollout right, Fyfe throws behind Westerkamp on the out but Westy makes a great grab. 3&2 +8, pistol TE trips left - zone read look but it's a called give to AA 1&G +5, pistol TE left - inside zone to AA 2&G +3, pistol HB left - zone read look and AA scores a TD 2PT, pistol HB trips right, jet motion - Fyfe tries clapping for the ball while Pelini is looking for the dropped hand. Fyfe seems to have forgot they changed. Timing is all off.
  18. Thirteenth Possession - 3Q 2:02 1&10 -25, pistol TE right, Allen motion to trips left - fake the WR screen to Allen and throw Westy on the fade but he drops it. Unbelievable. 2&10 -25, pistol TE trips left - swing pass to AA for a good gain 1&10 -37, pistol HB right - TA is pressured and throws off his back foot but gets it to Westy for a big gain 1&10 +37, pistol TE right - Despite no pressure, TA's mechanics are bad. I think he's trying to hit Westy on the corner again but underthrows it. It goes right over Allen's head who is open 2&10 +37, pistol TE right with trips left - zone read that is poorly blocked 3&10 +37, shotgun trips right, doubles left - TA throws to DPE in double coverage. Didn't seem to look anywhere else 4&10 +37, pistol HB right - early snap and TA falls on it
  19. I've been a big Mitchell supporter for three years but he really didn't have a good game. Some of it was good plays by their receivers but he didn't tackle or cover well and he totally gave up on the reverse that scored a TD. Terrible effort by he and Cooper on that play.
  20. Twelfth Possession - 3Q 9:18 1&10 -25, pistol with doubles to both sides - zone read, TA keeps. Could have been a really good play if Lewis blocks MIKE instead of going all the way to backside LB. No idea why he went right past him. Would have been TA against the safeties 2&8 -27, pistol with doubles both sides - play action complete to Westy on the out. TA limping after the play 1&10 -40, pistol HB left - zone read look but it's a called handoff and AA's best run so far 2&1 -49, pistol HB left - same play again but they blitz a corner who makes the tackle 1&10 +49, pistol TE right with trips left - WR screen to Moore but they can't connect. I put this one on Moore as it looked to me like he was backing up too much. Probably needed to be moving more sideways than back. 2&10 +49, pistol with doubles both sides - play action complete to Westy across the middle 1&10 +31, pistol TE right with trips left - WR screen to Moore, this time it's on TA. Moore is basically standing there looking at him but TA fires it too far in front. 2&10 +31, pistol TE right with trips left - same WR screen look but the throw goes to Cotton on the short hook. Defender made a nice play but Cotton should have caught it. Ball could have been thrown sooner 3&10 +31, pistol TE right - can't find it but it sounded and looked like there was something that caused a slightly early snap here. TA with a great throw to Westy on the corner route 1&10 +14, pistol TE left, AA in motion from the slot - play action, TA hesitates and is almost sacked. Flagged for grounding but it is picked up. Moore was wide open early but TA didn't throw it to him 2&10 +14, pistol with doubles both sides - screen set up to AA but it's covered and TA is sacked. TA checked, MSU checked and it looked like TA tried to check back to the original play but I don't think the linemen were on the same page 3&14 +18, pistol with doubles both sides - false start on Lewis 3&19 +23, pistol with doubles both sides, AA motions to trips left - TA had his mind made up that he was throwing to AA the entire play. AA was totally covered and doubled but TA tried to force it in and almost gets it picked. Allen had a step on his man underneath Field goal This was a great series of play calls by Beck. Even having called several plays that were there but not completed, we put together our best drive. Should have had a TD to Moore. That would have changed what happened down the stretch.
  21. Eleventh Possession - 3Q 11:44 1&10 -17, pistol TE left - outside zone for a short gain but holding is called on Lewis 1&19 -8, pistol HB right, Westy on Jet motion - inside zone but AA has nowhere to go 2&18 -9, pistol HB right, Westy on Jet motion - play action, Allen is open near the first down marker but TA doesn't step into his throw and it is short 3&18 -9, pistol HB left - first time where #43 claps as he's looking right at Pelini. TA sacked and the review says it's a fumble.
  22. Tenth Possession - 3Q 15:00 1&10 -25, pistol TE right - WR screen to DPE but he's tackled as soon as he catches it 2&15 -20, pistol HB left - zone read but nowhere for AA to go 3&16 -19, pistol, HB left - TA has a window to hit Westerkamp for a first down but he actually jumps backwards throwing the ball despite no pressure and the pass is short

    B1G vs. SEC

Obviously we don't take security seriously enough in the B1G
  24. Interesting that none of the problems with the snap came in the first half despite plenty of defensive movement. Halftime adjustments?
  25. Ninth Possession - 2Q 4:21 1&10 -31, pistol with trips left - play action incomplete to Allen on the out - pass interference MSU 1&10 -38, pistol TE right, Allen motion to trips left - play action WR screen to Allen but the pass is low and Allen falls after making the catch 2&10 -38, pistol TE left - AA is wide open out of the backfield but TA zips it past him 3&10 -38, pistol TE left - delay of game 3&15 -33, pistol TE left - TA sacked after Calhoun beats Sterup around the outside
