  1. I expected Martinez to be better, mostly just from being healthy - having the entire offseason to work - and from being in the same system for a second year (first time ever). I was hoping for improved mechanics but skeptical. I was very pleased to see the mechanics were actually quite a bit better. Having time to throw helps so hopefully he keeps it up. Confidence has to be sky high at the moment.
  2. I agree - VERY pleased with how we played overall yesterday. However, it was one game against a team that had a bunch of changes since last year and couldn't decide on a QB. Unfortunately there will be reasons to temper hope until we get into the B1G schedule but if we string a couple more games like that one together, we'll be sitting pretty.
  3. Really excited to see him play be we don't appear to be short at WR this year so I'm fine with waiting a year.
  4. How many +1s can I give? Just one? I guess that'll have to do.
  5. OK. I see what you're saying now. I thought you meant they could be in bowl position but wouldn't be able to go so everyone else would be playing up. I agree that having what is traditionally one of your top 4 teams out of the picture will hurt. Unfortunately, it won't get better any time soon.
  6. Had a 90 yard KO Return for TD in their big win over the #4 team in the state Friday night.
  7. Apparently there wasn't a lot of defense played in his game this week.
  8. Four catches for 45 yards and a TD in their 7 point win last week.
  9. Tough loss in week 1 for Cardinal Mooney. McWilson rushed for 67 yards and had three tackles and a pass broken up on D. Apparently he's a decent punter as well - 5 punts averaging 40 yards.
  10. Montee Ball - W 26-21 vs. No. Iowa - 32 car, 120 yds, 3.8 ypc, 1 TD; 3 rec, 31 yds Stats look good but it was more quantity instead of quality; Pros - Um, it was decent; Cons - Not exactly Heisman-worthy Matt Barkley - W 49-10 vs. Hawaii - 23/38 (60.5%), 372 yds, 4 TDs Big game, as expected; Pros - Lots of pub and stats to back it up; Cons - Martinez was better Geno Smith - W 69-34 vs. Marshall - 32/36 (88.9%), 323 yds, 4 TDs; 8 rush, 65 yds, 1 TD Big game, as expected; Pros - Could be the best player in the conference; Cons - Needs stats like this every week Marcus Lattimore - W 17-13 vs. Vandy - 23 rush, 110 yds, 4.8 ypc, 2 TDs; 3 rec, 21 yds Accounted for nearly half SC's yards; Pros - Carried his team; Cons - Team didn't look overly great And ... Taylor Martinez - 26/34 (76.5%), 354 yds, 5 TDs; 6 rush, 10 yds Great performance on national TV; Pros - Jesse Palmer on the bandwagon; Cons - Needs a lot more of it
  11. Except for the part about PSU affecting the bowls. I don't think that will be an issue.
  12. I didn't get to watch much of the game but I thought the announcers made a pretty accurate assessment: So much emotion before and early in the game that Penn St. just didn't have anything left for the second half. That being said, I think Ohio will be solid and Penn St. not very good.
  13. Wait until the part where Jesse Palmer is in front of the camera.
  14. oh yeah. BTW, Sean was listed on the depth chart starter. I'm confused. Could be an injury or illness. Maybe doghouse. Have you read this thread or just jumped in with more speculation at the end?
  15. Throwback to the 80s: Keep 'em coming!
  16. Not sure if you mean that's what you'd do or that's what you think will happen but, when you add in Martinez's 10 rushing yards, he only had 4 fewer yards and 2 more TDs than Miller. I'd say he's got him easily. If anything, Marquise Lee would be closer in my book - nearly 300 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs is a good day at the office.
  17. Not a good day for those featured in the video - Rex, Marlow with the US flag. Maybe we should get the redshirts in the video next time.
  18. Do you know if he's calling the plays for Ohio? I didn't think he was that bad as a head coach but didn't think he had the knack for play-calling. I've always thought if he was just HC and didn't try to also be OC, it might have worked out better. Just wondering how he has it set up at Ohio.
  19. Our issue was more Defense than anything. We were shutting them out until the end of the third quarter when they remembered the forward pass and murdered us with it. Our secondary was pitiful. Offense was actually decent for what we were trying to do, it wasn't 2010-11 UW but I don't think it was meant to be, it was more about breaking in DOB. We have a brand new QB and a RB who's still recovering from a concussion, I didn't expect 50+. As far as the second statement a week ago I'd have given you a lot of flak for it but now I completely agree. This will not be an easy year for UW. I was going to post something to the effect of "6 points with two minutes left in the half against NoIowa is more of a problem than you may want to admit". But I do see you scored on 3 of your 4 first half possessions and the only one failing to score started on your own 5 yard line. Must have been a really slow (or fast, depending on how you look at it) game.
  20. Why would have have a worse completion percentage than last year? Just my opinion. Wrong answer. The correct answer to BigRedBuster's question is "Because I'm FLU"
  21. I think he's got a lot of potential. I'm just afraid he's too buried in the depth chart to get much out of this year. Yes, IF Rex misses a lot of time it might be different but this is way to early in the year to be playing a potential redshirt on an "if". Assuming Rex is back (even if it's after missing a game or two), AA looks to have a lock on the #2 spot and Heard looked good as well. I'd say that might leave 25-30 carries for the year for Cross. Not enough to warrant shorting him a year.
  22. Looking good...for now. "Good" might be a stretch but the prediction for that game was correct. They really did look "good" the first week last year before falling off the cliff in week 2.
  23. I don't know, but my assumption was that it's to try to get them to secure the helmet better always. So missing a play is a punishment to prevent it from happening. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Then 2) Do the officials really think that it's going to lead to players making sure their helmet doesn't fall off again? I mean, is one play enough of a deterrence to stop them from "not securing their helmets". They should have to be taken out for the rest of the current drive. I think that would be enough of a deterrence. Depends. I would think the players wouldn't want to come out of a game for something that's pretty easily preventable. After it happens in a couple critical situations - as it did tonight when Clemson's QB had to sit out a critical play late in the game - I'd be willing to bet it will have an effect. At least they're trying to do something about it. If the helmet comes off that easily, it is NOT fitted properly - and thus not protecting properly. End of story.
  24. For awhile it seemed like we were going out of our way to NOT have anyone playing outside contain. Looked better in the second half so hopefully we got something straightened out.
