  1. The B1G would not take Georgia Tech (or UVA) over UNC if the latter is available. It's best not put too much stock in yarns spun by drunkin' hillbillies.
  2. That's where it really hurts not knowing exactly what time frame the map covers (or if it includes walk-ons as dylan mentioned).
  3. Good points. If you go to the article I linked above the very first line mentions the map as an inspiration and has a link to where it was put up by a random poster. The discussion where it was originally linked has no further information about the source of the map itself so it's hard to say exactly what it covers (perhaps it is listing where B1G players were from during years 'x to y' rather than those on teams right now). FWIW the numbers in the article do not come from the map, instead they were independent research by the author & cover current rosters.
  4. That's an upcoming Hallmark Presentation starring Mario Lopez.
  5. Found this on a Buckeye blog and while it is a bit Ohio centric it still might be of interest to the folks here... What the data says about where B1G players call home (The original full size version of the map is HERE) There is also some discrepancy in numbers between the article and the map (6 Canadian players in the B1G in the article vs 3 listed on the map).
  6. It allowed them to vertically integrate meth production with the distribution channels.
  7. That's why I keep stressing that these are long term decisions & that focusing on a very small time window is not the best way to look at it. Remember you are looking at a South Carolina that has been in the SEC for two decades & then comparing it to a Rutgers which still early in the building process (& coming out of the big east). South Carolina in 1991 was even lower on the historical rung than Rutgers is right now. Where will Rutgers be in 20 years if they leverage B1G membership & continue to place an emphasis on building their FB program? Of course we don't know the answer to that but comparing Rutgers pre-move to South Carolina long after their move is very much apples to oranges. Conversely Arkansas over the past 20 years has actually seen a drop off. They were actually a higher profile program at the end of the SWC. Using your argument Wisconsin would be a bigger addition for a conference than Nebraska right now. T-Shirt/mouthbreather fans are one thing but I don't think that anyone who is a serious college football fan believes for one moment that South Carolina & Aggie were better additions than PSU & Nebraska. In 2055 very few people will remember the Sandusky scandal (unfortunately) & very probably the first decade of the 21st century will be looked at as just one of Nebraska's down periods (which every school has). Of course there is also the possibility that CFB will be significantly less popular than it is now after the upcoming wave of class actions suits that are going to eventually hit due to the long term effects of head trauma. How will the B1G's strategy of focusing on major well rounded universities look in comparison to the semi-pro football mindset of the south at that point? Oh and BYU will never be in the Pac. Never.
  8. How is that obvious? I've never heard anyone refer the names in a positive light.
  9. Wide net. two of these guys are what the coaches want from the sounds of it(Unless Vonn Bell commits then things might change) Shelton Gibson who is apparently visiting Rocky Top this weekend and won't officially announce until NSD. I don't think I've had any confirmation on his grades one way or another. He visited OSU last weekend. Coaches have to know he's ok right? Corny Elder is another option. Just visited. We'll see. Dontre Wilson. Oregon commit. Longshot is being generous Corey Smith who is a JuCo originally from Akron,OH. His mom apparently wants him at OSU. we will see James Clark. This offer came out of nowhere but his attributes are kinda similar to a Ted Ginn Jr. Add Kyrin Priester, a couple of more names will probably crop up between now & NSD.
  10. Any objective reasons? PSU > A&M in every measurable sense Maryland & Missouri are a wash (with Maryland being in a better location) South Carolina was a bigger FB dog when they joined the SEC than Rutgers is now. That leaves Arkansas who was essentially Nebraska lite....a second tier/regional power in a minimally populated state. Finding 'any other team' that matches or exceeds Arkansas wouldn't be too difficult.
  11. FWIW I've been following the massive conference re-alignment thread on Shaggybevo (which by the way is a great aggregator for info) and there hasn't been a peep in that direction. Most Longhorn fans seem against the move if for no other reason than the distances involved (which is completely understandable). Neither South Carolina (back in the dark ages of the previous big shift in re-alignment) nor Missouri were sexy. To honest Maryland has far more upside than Missouri. Looking at the big picture: B1G additions: PSU, Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers SEC additions: Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, South Carolina I'll take the first group every time.
  12. 'King' status is not based on short term success it's based on sustained performance over decades. LSU is just outside of king territory. Florida is on the verge of being a king but still needs a bit more time to fully cement their position. What sets the SEC apart is that they have a number of teams that just are just outside king status. Historically speaking Tennessee has a stronger argument for being the 10th king (instead of Miami or FSU) before UF or LSU. Oregon is not a king by any definition. You don't make 100 decisions based on what TSUN & PSU did "this year & probably next year". To be honest being too top heavy is probably detrimental to the kings of a conference in the long term. Look at the relative struggles PSU has undergone since joining the B1G or the drop in status Arkansas has felt since joining the SEC.
  13. Contract extension with a hefty raise from ND in 3...2...1....
  14. In regards to the concerns over adding football 'powers'... The B1G currently has four of the programs that are generally acknowledged as 'kings' (Ohio State, TSUN, Nebraska & PSU). That is more than any other conference. The Big XII has two (Texas & Oklahoma). The Pac-12 has one (USC). Even the media darling SEC only has one (Alabama). Yes the SEC has a number of 'near' kings (Florida, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee) but even including those the B1G stacks up fine if you widen your view from the last few years to a long term perspective. Rutgers & Maryland (as well as the other ACC schools being mentioned as potential members) sit in areas with more than enough FB talent to sustain strong programs. All that is needed is the right coach & an athletic department that is dedicated to FB success. South Carolina wasn't an afterthought in FB when they joined the SEC. In 1660 a 6'2" red haired Englishman stepped off a boat in Elizabeth City Shire (Norfolk) Virginia & headed west into the hills. Three hundred years later my grandfather left those same hills & moved to Ohio (my mother was a freshman at WVU at the time). Yeah it's fair to say I've walked the green rolling hills of West Virignia a bit. That would require a change in NCAA rules.
  15. Why in the world do you say that? The Oregon O has been handled by every decent defense they've faced. To be blunt, the playing field won't be leveled until the SEC stops getting free passes over other conferences from the media. Alabama should not have been in the championship game last year and this year their resume was no more impressive than several other one loss teams.
  16. This is my understanding as well. Different paths to get there, but the end destination is the same.
  17. Corbett is just trying to placate the PSU lunatic fringe that has been trying to deflect attention from Paterno's involvement by focusing on him. Best case scenario...PSU is removed from the NCAA, loses it's accreditation and the Pentagon begins testing next generation enhanced radiation weapons in central PA.
  18. Did you guys send your full team to Midlands? I didn't seen Green or Sueflohn in the brackets. Those are probably your two best tournament scorers. Kokesh is currently #8 on Intermat's rankings. He was third at the B1G & an 8 seed for NCAAs. Beat the guys he was supposed to beat then got hammered by David Taylor & lost in his first wrestle back (don't remember to who). This year he'll probably do worse in the B1G (it's deeper at 174 than 165) but has a very good shot at making AA at NCAAs. That extra year of experience will help him a lot.
  19. Badgers football: Offense was power struggle for Matt Canada, Bret Bielema Interesting article that (if true) might shed some light on why the Wisconsin of Dec 2 was a different Wisconsin than earlier in the year.
  20. Just remember it could always be worse...you could be Sparty.
  21. Well those numbers were based on data from 2005-07. They certainly may have made up some ground since then, but I would be pretty surprised if they had jumped 20-30 spots.
