  1. It's not purposefully ambiguous or ambiguous at all. It's tricky, but it's not meant to deceive. It's just a conditional probability, and the fact that it's easy to mix up conditional probabilities with probabilities is a big reason people have a hard time understanding "luck" or how random events work.
  2. A couple has two children. One of the kids is a girl. What's the probability the other is a boy?
  3. It all just depends on how you define it. Awesome thread, though. There's already some great posts in here.
  4. While I suppose it's probably possible to say something stupider than this, it would be pretty challenging.
  5. Iowa fans don't listen to your wizard math, just use your eyes and you can easily tell JVB is way better than Martinez!
  6. Pretty much same experience here. Lived in Iowa my whole life and always hated Hawkeye fans, but thought they were really good on gameday. There was one old drunk a-hole, but you'll always get those. It was kind of funny, he kept yelling out how he wanted to injure our players, especially Martinez and Burkhead. "Take out his legs, that's what you f'ing get for having a running quarterback!" ...which I just busted out laughing at, since 99% of Iowa fans are pissed off at Ferentz for refusing to have anything but a statue back there.
  7. Last year against Wyoming. Hey you asked. True, true... but maybe I should rephrase. :-D why? that was your question. That's kind of the point behind rephrasing there, big guy.
  8. sounds like they need to unionize. Or just not be dumbasses.
  9. Just because Wal-Mart can pay their employees more, why should they? If the employees are too stupid to realize they are underpaid, then why the hell do they deserve more money? Go quit and get another job somewhere else. Go get some actual skills and find a non cashier job. Wal-Marts never going to raise wages unless they need to, and the employees aren't giving them a reason.
  10. i know, right? freaky friday i guess. Why don't you blame the low-life, trailer park trash employees that are only good enough to get a job at Wal-Mart and nowhere else.
  11. If luck is a combination of two things you can control, doesn't that disqualify it from being luck?
  12. They got pretty unlucky with that, that shouldn't have been a noise penalty. From what I've read in the B1G online rulebook, 5 yard noise penalties only get called when the crowd exceeds 115 dB. I would guess it was no more than 22 dB at that point, nowhere near the threshold for a flag.
  13. Don't they realize they never won one either? And no, tying with a team that beat you head-to-head does not count as a title, Hawkeye fans.
  14. What about married couples - one republican, one democrat - who chose not to vote because there's no point when you know you're just being cancelled out? Do they not get to complain?
  15. The people who actually have jobs?

    Joe Ganz

Anyone have any idea what the hell Ganz was doing during a timeout when he walked into the endzone and started pointing at someone in the crowd? He was talking into his headset at the time....almost looked like someone in the crowd was on the other end. Probably just lining up a sloot for after the game. Who knows.
  17. Yeah, IF we come back. It gets pretty darn quiet when they come out flat and fall behind. Ah, the true fan's voice. Thanks for the contribution. And to your latest point, I was at the Ohio State game last year. The second and third quarters weren't quiet. Revisionist history is nice and all, but I still have that game on DVR - and the 2nd and 3rd quarters featured some pretty loud crowd noise. Check the tapes, as a matter of fact. Quiet? We're down 17-6 at the 57:00 mark. Please to listen to the crowd ramp up. At 1:15, we're down 20-6. Please to listen to the crowd as we come back to regular play. And notice, as we're down 21 points at 1:24, all the empty seats. All the fans that gave up. All the fans that are so, so quiet as we're down three TDs. https://www.youtube....h?v=X1boFUYaAZQ Yes, because fans leaving is exactly what "we are quiet when losing" means. The crowd is always loud on TV because they place the mics throughout the stadium so that it is that way. As long as there are 9 people out of the 86,000 yelling, ESPN will find them and make sure they show up as background noise. At its worst, before Lavonte's strip, it was not even close to being loud in that stadium. That doesn't mean that 0 people were yelling, but it was not loud. Memorial can get pretty damn quiet. All 12 of the San Jose State fans who showed up managed to get chants going in the 4th quarter in 2008 when we were still winning that could be easily heard. You don't need to be butthurt that your fans aren't the rowdiest in the world. Nicest sure, but they are not overly loud.
  18. Yeah, IF we come back. It gets pretty darn quiet when they come out flat and fall behind. The Wisconsin game (when we came out flat and fell behind) was significantly louder and more electric than the Michigan game (where we played well throughout and never trailed). True. But on the flip side, the 2nd/early 3rd quarter against OSU was probably the quietest I've ever heard it.
  19. Yeah, IF we come back. It gets pretty darn quiet when they come out flat and fall behind.
  20. It was the band. The team left Memorial for the airport around 11 Friday.
