  1. Well, how do you all feel AA turn out?
  2. If we want to establish the running game, the best way to do it is to include the fullback in the option. The first read by the QB should be with the fullback. Then, decided to either hand the ball off, keep the ball and turn up field, or pitch the ball. This will freeze the LB and keep a team who flows quickly to the ball to say home in the middle of the field. I have always wondered why they don't use Cross as the fullback in the option game. Simply stated, if you think it is necessary to start Cross, put him in a situation where he can add value for what he does best, punish the defense between the tackles. You cannot have your leading rusher, 5th in the nation and leading the BIG, on the sidelines.
  3. Yup, for a guy who pretty much gave his life to this state, he wasn't treated with too much respect.
  4. I did not post this to win an argument bout yesterday's game. It is an observation that I have made for some time now about the over all Husker program since Peleni was hired as head coach. Strength and conditioning is an important cog in the wheel. We do get pushed around at the line of scrimmage. There is no argument in that. (Reference the Minnesota game)
  5. I posted this in another forum thread and want to solicit some comments here. It needs a thread of its own. One area that does not get much attention in the media or on these forums is our strength and conditioning program. We get worn down way too easily. The UCLA game was a glaring example. We ran out of gas early in the second half. Boyd Epley was a performance based strength coach. He was able to evaluate, both individual and team performance. His program was a key factor in player development and was the driving force behind the storied "Pipe Line." He made players into physical specimens who could perform at a high level. Although Dobson's credentials may look good, I am not seeing that on the field. When your program has blow out loses like NU has experienced in recent times, you can look at your strength and conditioning program and know we do not measure up in that area. Why do we get pushed around on the offensive and defensive lines? Simple answer, we do not have the strength to stand our ground. You can talk experience, scheme and technique all you want, but at some point, as a lineman, you have to be able to line up and be physically stronger than the guy across from you. We do not seem to be able to do that.
  6. Do we really want to play in the CCG? What kind of a question is that? Hell yes, we want to play for championships. View the clip! If you do not want to win the game, stay home!
  7. The dog wagging the tail is never a good sign. When the players start to tell the coaches what to do, there is something significantly wrong. The coaches are supposed to know what to do, know what to call, know the defensive strategy, know the match ups, know the player groupings, etc. If the players have to tell the coaches, it is a sign that the coaches really do not know what they are doing. Which, in this case, may very well be the case.
  8. Tommy's picks-Are they as bad as they look? Simple answer: YES!
  9. Shock! Just like every other Husker fan who was either at the game or watching on TV.
  10. The one thing, in general, that turns me off about "religion" is that most of the major "religions" claim that their way is the one and only way. More wars have been fought over religious beliefs than any thing else. And, it is still going on today.
  11. When a person graduates from college, it is up to them to make their course of major study work for them. Just because you graduate from law school, engineering school or medical school necessarily equates to success. I know several engineers who eventually could not make the grade in the field of engineering and ended up doing something else. Also, a doctor friend of mine got tired of the high cost of insurance and decided on a new career. He became a lawyer and is not dissatisfied with that. He is now looking to write children's books. Work ethic is the most important ingredient in the work force, no matter how academic you are.
  12. Yes or no------explain! I will begin by saying he will play but not start.
  13. Anyone know the criteria for determining the graduation rates? Does this include the players who transfer and go on to graduate at other institutions? Does it include all players or just scholarship kids? Does it include those who quit and then return to finish their degrees? (Just wondering out loud)
  14. "Experience" doesn't automatically add value to a player. Experience gives a player the opportunity to improve, but it isn't a given. Tommy Frazier probably had more poise and game savvy as a Freshman than most college quarterbacks have in their Senior year...and yes, Tommie Frazier as a Senior was better than Tommie Frazier as a Freshman, but it wasn't because he aged for four years like a bottle of Scotch. I still see Martinez have one or two "WTF!?" decisions every game, win or lose, even this year. But when he was/is healthy, he can usually cancel them out with a play where he burns the defense with his speed. His passing was better last year than the year before, but I think he has regressed this year, though that might be injury related. I hope for the best and hope we have a 100% healthy trio of quarterbacks for the rest of the season. So I don't buy into the notion that a fifth year senior has an advantage over a redshirt freshman or sophomore. Some people improve with age, some regress, and some most stay the same. Good post. Where experience come into plays, is when the game is on the line and the QB has been in that situation before. Otherwise, I totally agree with your post.
  15. Well, that is on Bo, not guy who released it. But, that is another story. Has nothing to do with "fan base," selling out the stadium every Saturday is the true measurement. Also, NU fans follow the Huskers extremely well, and at times, have had more red in the opponent's own home stadium than the home team. Think Notre Dame a few years back. Now, that is fan base. Releasing it immediately is on Bo. Releasing two years after the fact, is on the fan(or whatever the hell else he/her is referred to). I am not going to argue the point with anyone. We have been over that before. All I am saying is that one fan does not overshadow the efforts of the hundreds of thousands who go to the home games each year and those that make the road trips.
