  1. Under (1). O/U Illini conference game losing streak on Sunday: 14
  2. Looks like someone ate a bag of skittles and threw up on a map.
  3. In large part it's a byproduct of all the cozy districts state governments gerrymandered. The primaries are where the winners are decided and primary voters are often batsh#t crazy. Guaranteed House seat but the GOP is going to get drilled in national elections. It's weird how the Senate has ended up being more representative than the House of Representatives.
  4. Heard he and Craig James killed five hookers and fed them to the leopard at the Lincoln Children's Zoo.
  5. If there were a constant home and home between the two schools, would it not be a positive for UNO to play against a B1G hockey team? Yeah, I don't understand why a UNL hockey program would necessarily hurt UNO's, even if they didn't play each other. Do a lot of people in Lincoln drive to Omaha to watch UNO hockey? Would people in Omaha start driving to Lincoln to watch UNL hockey instead of UNO? I don't know, but I kind of doubt it. Unless UNO gets a lot of recruits out of Nebraska (also doubt), UNL's entrance won't decimate UNO recruiting base. On an unrelated note, it sounds like the students on the current Husker Hockey squad have to pay a couple thousand dollars to play. That's some dedication. Too bad they play up in Fremont.
  6. "Did you eat Taylor's fruit snacks?!?!"
  7. Texas State held Wyoming to 64 rushing yards today (356 total). Smith ran for -17.
  8. Barton Fink is one I wasn't wild about but I got the sense a lot went over my head. I wish Netflix would cut a deal with NBC/Universal to get Blood Simple.
  9. I agree but you can also see that from watching the game. The point I was angling towards is that all defenses (good or bad) usually give up a disproportionately large and small number of yards in some quarters of a particular game. That Nebraska is no different says nothing about how good or bad this defense is or will be.
  10. I agree that a chart of a yards and points per quarter shows in which quarters we gave up the most yards and points. I guess I don't know why that matters.
  11. Are you assuming that college defenses normally give up (or offenses normally get) around the same number of yards and points in each quarter of any particular game?
  12. Illinois beat an FCS team by 8, lost by 10 to a team ranked #18, and blew out Cincy and Miami (OH). We squeaked by a good mediocre MWC team by 3, lost by 20 to a team ranked #16, and blew out an FCS team and Southern Miss. My gut says we're going to win easily because "we're Nebraska the they're Illinois." But I don't think that someone looking at the game without that kind of baggage would expect Nebraska to win in a blowout. Unfortunately, this should be a good game.
  13. Blake Bell isn't very good at throwing the football to people.
  14. Seasons were added for The League and Portlandia not too long ago. If you like Coen brothers movies, check out Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink. They're not my favorites because they lack the humor of some of the Coens' other movies, but they have their moments. [skip to 2:00]
  15. It's encouraging that he's acknowledged the problem and is trying to fix it. I haven't given up hope in Bo, but he needs to find a catalyst. For readers of the TWOS
  16. If it was an isolated incident, I wouldn't mind the players shouldering the bulk of the blame. But if it's systemic (which it is) then you need to go up the chain of command. Do you think Osborne and his staff just lucked out and happened to recruit players who stepped on campus with the type of attitude knapplc was referencing? By 1995, that attitude had become part of the culture of Nebraska football and had a forward momentum of its own, but someone had to build it in the first place and then see that it was maintained. This is beyond your post, but it drives me nuts when people say stuff like "Bo's doing fine. The players just need to execute." That's BS. For repetitive, systemic problems you have to blame the system and the persons that created it. Bo and his staff are responsible for the attitude, fundamentals, and everything else that happens on the field. If he's putting the players in position and they're not making plays, that's his fault, too.
  17. Most people around the country feel he's a dead man walking after the UCLA blowout, don't need Tommie Frazier, F the Fans trifecta. He needs a big year. Like win the conference type of year. *Taken from NUance's post in the Funny Sports Pictures et al. thread.
  18. I voted somewhat unlikely. Over the last five years, we've simultaneously been a laughingstock and one of the winningest teams in CFB. It's weird. But Bo's never really come close to a losing season and we're probably not going to have one this year. Even if we finish the regular season 7-5, I have a hard time seeing Bo being shown the door. I think it's more likely he'd get the opportunity, like Solich, to do some house cleaning and take another run at it. I don't think Bo would be thrilled but nor do I think that he's going to get an offer to be a HC at another major program. My biggest concern with Bo over the last several years has been recruiting. I think his touted improvement in that area has been overblown. It's been better, but not much better (unless our only comparison is 2008). If this is the best we can do now that we're in the conference best known for urban decay and losing, so be it. But I'm not convinced yet. I really think that if Bo could have pulled out just one of the three CCGs, all else being equal, the conversation would be a lot different right now. It's been a long time since we won anything. Division "titles" and third-tier bowl trophies don't count.
  19. He completed 60% of his passes despite several drops and threw for 3 TDs and no INTs. I don't know if it would have made much of a difference who was our QB against UCLA. Taylor certainly doesn't deserve the blame for that game. But neither does his stat line tell the whole story. If Taylor isn't very good at doing some things, Beck probably won't call them. This would limit our offense but not show up as a negative in Taylor's stats. Sometimes I wonder whether it's more difficult for our OC to gameplan for Taylor than it is for opposing DCs.
  20. Oh man. If some guy with a blog can figure out Bo's defense, no wonder it's getting ripped to shreds!1!!!1! Those are informative posts from a happier time. Nice read. The author lost a little credibility with me when he promised to look at "the Nebraska base front" and "the secret behind their overwhelming pressure." I think the "secret" is busy taking out knees in the NFL.
  21. He had a quiet game but nothing really bad jumped out at me, either. Was he loafing on his blocks or routes?
  22. That our guys remember what swagger feels like. Yeah, it was SDSU and it's a little embarassing when smack is spoken to a RB that ran for 200 by the 3Q, but it was still nice to see. A lot better than the glassy-eyed "oh-sh#t-here-we-go-again" look I've seen every time the team is tested.
