8 games left....How many of them do we win?
everybody knows my name replied to Hayseed's topic in Husker Football
There's talent on your roster. You go 7-1 the rest of the way. -
You are very perceptive to recognize that Riley only won all those games at Oregon State because that powerhouse of a program was carrying him. Clearly he had no part in that team's success.

4-8 (or 3-9) Is Now Exceedingly Likely

Oh you Huskers fans, put down the knife and the gun, and come in off the ledge. You'll beat Rutgers without breaking a sweat, and Illinois with a little more effort. Things will look a lot brighter a lot less dark in a few weeks.- 33 replies

Broken Chair Remade

I don't think this trophy has anything to do with coach Pelini's emotions. It has everything to do with a nascent rivalry between two great schools. -

Returning starters doesn't mean that much this year, because the previous regime was substitution-happy. For instance, Blake Cashman was a human highlight film and led the team in sacks, but wasn't a starter. The skinny on the D is that the LBs are the strength, the secondary looks like a weakness, and the D line is kind of a mystery - could be great or could be mediocre, depending on how the youths come along. -

Maybe a really opulent 25,000 seat stadium. -
Not to worry, they won't need to give it back. I watched that Documentary on PJ Fleck and he scares me. Oh yeah, he scares me too, and I'm a Gopher.

Where's the chair? It'll be hard for the Gophers to celebrate winning it if the Huskers can't produce it.

SI.com - The Big Ten's return to the top
everybody knows my name replied to everybody knows my name's topic in The Big Ten
The cooperation between schools in the Big Ten is phenomenal, and it starts with everybody recognizing that everybody else brings something significant to the table. Indiana and Minnesota aren't big names in football, but Indiana brings a ton to the table in basketball and baseball, while Minnesota sacrificed a popular spot in the WCHA to help the Big Ten start a hockey league that profits the Big Ten Network. Iowa is a leader in wrestling. Purdue's marching band has a big drum. Wisconsin leads the nation in alcohol abuse and sex with roadkilled animals. Everybody contributes what they can! -
A pretty good read... You might think the Ohio State athletic director would want Michigan to be bad. You would be wrong. Big Ten schools are not just committed to winning; they are committed to each other. Schools share TV and bowl revenue equally. If a school fails to buy its allotment of bowl tickets, every conference member shares in the loss. Even gate receipts from league games are shared (though not evenly) with the rest of the conference. (Newcomers Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers do not get full revenue shares yet but are on a negotiated path to do so.) The league's egalitarian principles run deep. Its deal with the Citrus Bowl stipulates that at least five different Big Ten schools take part over the six-year agreement. That gives more schools a chance to make a recruiting impression. Compare that to what happened in the SEC this fall. Hurricane Matthew postponed LSU's Oct. 8 game at Florida. It was rescheduled for Nov. 19, but LSU and Florida both had nonconference home games that day. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva refused to move the game to Nov. 19 unless it also moved from Gainesville to Baton Rouge. Florida coach Jim McElwain was furious. That kind of public dispute in the Big Ten is as unlikely as a hurricane postponing a game in Minnesota. As Alvarez says, "There is congeniality and cooperation within that room of athletic directors." http://www.si.com/college-football/2016/12/07/big-ten-football-revival?xid=socialflow_twitter_sicr

Iowa Hate Week - Please post to show your love
everybody knows my name replied to ADS's topic in Husker Football
This Gopher loves it that you hate Iowa. Who hates Iowa? -
All I know is, somebody better rescue that trophy from the garbage crusher. When my boys beat your boys in Minneapolis next fall, I want that trophy to be in the stadium, and change hands from the red to the maroon.

Sigh.... It's not up to coaches, it is up to doctors. Please understand the protocol before posting about it. Good game from you guys, hope you win out. Especially against Wisconsin. Don't condescend to me. I understand the protocol, but F the protocol. I understand some things about brain injuries, too, and I think the approach used in boxing is more sensible than the get 'em back on the field ASAP "protocol" used in NCAA football.
-
I thought it was incredibly reckless for your coach to put Armstrong in the game, but I guess it worked out for the fans. Congratulations on the win. Armstrong is a great player, no doubt about it. In the sport I work in, boxing, there's a rule that when a fighter loses by KO or TKO, they're automatically suspended from competition for 30 days. I think that if football (NFL and NCAA) was serious about brain health, there would be a similar rule for that sport. But there'd be some serious wailing then. In our cases, both Minnesota and Nebraska would have lost their QBs for stretches of this season.

Gregory tests positive for pot at combine
everybody knows my name replied to Amac3309's topic in Other Sports
This is an interesting question that I've been wondering about. I guess pot is still illegal under federal law, right? If it wasn't, what about the teams in pot legal states—Broncos, Sea Hawks, Raiders, Rams, Chargers? Not to mention all the states where it is legal for medicinal purposes. There's a code of conduct that NFL players have to live by if they want to stay in the league. And they aren't the only ones - I have a friend who was the principal of a private school, and he wouldn't go to restaurants with a bar because under the terms of his employment he was forbidden to consume alcohol. He didn't mind at all, by the way. To him the job was worth that unimportant (to him) restriction. -
Link to Poll - Go Vote!
everybody knows my name replied to everybody knows my name's topic in Husker Football
I think it's simpler. Traditionally, to become a rival, they first have to be hated. You can have a friendly rivalry where there's no hate, but that's more common among individuals, less common with teams. Are Nebraskans just not good at hate? I would think that being right next to Iowa, you would have had lots of practice. -

Obviously you don't hate Wisconsin enough. It's a cleansing hate, you should try it. -
Backy Budger is conducting a poll over at Buckyville. I think you Husker fans should go over there and vote for your team! http://buckyville.yuku.com/topic/88461/Nov-12th-Minnesota-Nebraska-who-do-you-wanna-win#.WCNreS0rJhE
