  1. It seems the trend in the media is to pick Minnesota, which shocks the Gopher fan in me. I remember too well the Husker dominance of the eighties and nineties.
  2. Who would have thought, going into next Saturday's game, that the Gophers and the Huskers would have so much in common? In the last three years, Minnesota has won two meetings and Nebraska has won one. The teams are currently tied (along with Wisconsin) for first place in the Big Ten West, with idential 7-2 (4-2) records. Nebraska's best win came against Wyoming, while Minnesota's best win came against Colorado State. Nebraska's defense has given up 209 points so far this year, and Minnesota's defense has given up 208. One of these two teams is going to get a big win this week. Someone is going to hoist the Broken Chair. Who will it be?
  3. Also against this. It's a pathetic money grab, and it sucks. Big Ten tradition, bleah.
  4. Your boys looked tough last night. Frankly I was surprised that they didn't win it. In any case, the Nebraska-Minnesota game in two weeks is looking pretty big right now. Not that you guys can look past Ohio State, and my Gophers can't even overlook lowly Purdue. But that upcoming game looks to have serious implications.
  5. Why does the SEC get to keep its name and the Big Ten doesn't? Bogus.
  6. Don't go, guys - we like you and we want you to stay! Here's something that seems obvious to me: why would Nebraska trade places with Oklahoma when you could stay in the Big Ten and entice Oklahoma to join you? SKI U MAH!
  7. That's one up and one down for me - I'll take credit for predicting the Indiana win.
  8. Northwestern at Iowa doesn't look like an upset to me - it's at Iowa, and NW has looked awful in 2016. I'm thinking Michigan State at Indiana is going to be close, and Indiana could take it.
  9. The Huskers' marquee win, against Oregon, looks less impressive today than it did a week ago, and looking at the schedule, it doesn't look like they're likely to be tested before they meet Wisconsin on October 29th (IL, IN, Purdue). If Wisky continues to notch big wins, that game could look HUUUGE by the end of next month. But if NE indeed enters that contest unbeaten, they could be the least tested unbeaten team in the country.
  10. This young man is 3 games into his college football career and has three strip sacks. Superstar in the making. The most recent, from Saturday against Colorado State, is reminiscent of Jadeveon Clowney.
  11. And then there's the Center for Athletic Excellence, or some such silliness. This is where the athletes will get their grub and tutoring:
  12. The real U of M has been playing catchup in terms of football facilities for years. Our new complex is under construction now. Here's a video 'flythrough' of the planned facilities.
  13. The only way to make a trophy important is to care about it. I care about the chair! I wish you guys were jerks, so I could hate you.
  14. 3 pre-war 2 during-war 1 post-war You've made your painful, hurtful point!
  15. I don't even know where Minnesota's six NC trophies are, so I'm sure I can't find Nebraska's!
  16. Anybody know where the broken chair trophy is? I want to heist it, but it's a long drive from Minnesota to Lincoln if I get there and I can't find it.
  17. The Big Ten loves you, Nebraska. Don't go - don't even think about it! You are an awesome cultural fit with the B1G West schools, and everything will be hunky-dory in Lincoln the first time you win a conference title.
  18. Congratulations on the win, guys. We weren't worthy of the Broken Chair this year, but we'll look forward to taking it back next year!
  19. You'll never see this trophy in Nebraska, except from across the field!
  20. I think you've got Spielman in the bag. Minnesota got a verbal from Drew Hmielewski, a similar player who fills a similar niche, so there might not be room for Spielman anymore.
  21. Nebraska is my second-favorite B10 team. I have as much love for Nebby as I can have for an opponent who has routinely slaughtered my team in the past. I hope your boys beat Iowa and Wisconsin every year.
  22. Don't get down on yourselves. One of these years you'll beat Minnesota, and when you do it'll be a 10-win season. Then you can pretend it's like old times.
  23. Tell us again how this is racist... How about we play "how is it NOT racist." I understand that people attach intense emotion to a team name (I would struggle if people told me I couldn't be a Husker anymore), but when people of Sioux heritage ask you to stop calling yourself "the fighting Sioux"...you kind of have to stop. Go Spirit/Roughriders/North Stars!!!! Short version: the Sioux people of North Dakota liked the :"Fighting Sioux" logo (there was no mascot) and polling showed they wanted UND to retain it. But according to NCAA rules, for UND to keep the name the two Sioux bands in North Dakota would have to have voted in favor of it. This they would have done, but the tribal officials wouldn't permit the matter to come to a vote, meaning that UND had to drop the logo or receive sanctions.
  24. That would either be Miami or Iowa. Of course you'll get another chance in your bowl game. Win that and 10-3 won't seem so awful.
  25. I think there would be a lot of qualified coaches salivating at the opportunity to coach a team with such good history and facilities that is part of a weak division in a weak conference. And I think these same coaches get the fact that Nebraska fans are simply wanting a coach that can get the team back to winning conference titles, and not settling on 9 meaningless wins against unranked teams. Funny thing about Nebraska fans - they only think wins are meaningless. The losses are always full of meaning.
