  1. Back when SF was hired, my buddies (big sports fans, non nebraska fans) were raving about the hire. At the time, they proclaimed we were back. In a drunken state, I proactively offered to get an a$$ tat if we made the playoffs within 5 years. While not looking likely, perhaps the new AD may give Frosty the confidence and freedom to truly be the man he is. What say ye? For those interested, here's some of the designs we narrowed in on:
  2. This is actually a very strong point you bring up that I havent seen on this board. All of the SF dissenters here acting like we had our pick at the litter and could have had ANYBODY take this job. This isnt the 90s anymore, no one gives a F about that- all they see is a midwestern school with massive recruiting challenges coupled with an unrealistic fanbase. Not saying SF can do or not do whatever he wants and keep his job forever, but you'd think we're a consistent 10 win team a year program in a hot recruiting locale based off the lack of patience with some members of this board
  3. Your only valid point is the misses on the local players... at least its for positions were pretty well set in for the foreseeable future. You also seem to have a very narrow minded view on the state of this recruiting class. We're an insanely young team and we simply dont have the scholarship room we do in a typical year given the extra year given with covid coupled with how young this team is from a freshman-soph standpoint. This might change depending on what the ncaa decides on scholly limits during this weird period but hasnt yet Realistically speaking, its probably impossible for us to finish in the top 30 this year if its to be as small as a class as its looking like. sure, a few more wins for frosty prolly would equate to a couple extra recruits but there are way more variables at play influencing the state of recruiting beyond a few misses locally and few current signees.
  4. Realistically speaking- isn’t this a basic requirement to not only win the Big 10, but also compete for playoff contention? To answer your question, no prolly not... but looking at the bigger picture I feel like every single playoff team the past few years also needed/had this outside of notre dame.
  5. I went Hoiberg.... guys recruiting prowess has been insane. and the question is Frosty winning a bowl game, not just going to one.. We're prolly getting bounced in the semi final match up this year by bama or clemson so his bowl win will have to wait another year
  6. Couldn't agree more with the bolded. Division is still there for the taking- solid programs no doubt and its def deeper than whatever they're calling the Big12 north today that we would be in, but not to the point where we can't be top dawg again.
  7. 50% hope and kool aid.... Other 50%- I do whole heartedly believe the OL has been rebuilt, and rather impressively, might I add. They're still incredibly young but the OL, to me, is the base of a team's success in football at every level and even more-so in the Big10. Not only is the size and recruiting profile a significant improvement on what we had when SF arrived but I have confidence in the depth being built too where a few more recruiting cycles we truly see a 2 deep year in and year out. Austin is starting to get more praise but I think he's done the best job out of all the positional coaches from a consistency and results standpoint. The defense as a whole is serviceable enough this year to win a conf title IF (major IF), we have a top offense in the league (obvi 2-3/4ish with OSU being top most likely).... We're still missing a dude on the edge who commands a double team but I'm very pumped at the LB and secondary talent and depth. From an offensive standpoint, there's no way to sugar coat it, SF has struck out on the skill positions- some of it are misses and others are just ridiculous... Mo wash, if not an off the field head case, would be garnering national attention right about now based off what we saw... SF really needs the Toure/Manning/Martin to produce and in a big way. Big picture, I feel like last year was such a cluster F of a year for all that it wont be held against SF too much. The illinois game was an utter debacle that's inexcusable but for the most part, there are glimmers and signs of significan progress from where we were 4-5 years ago, it just rarely has come together at once and stayed there...... I'll say this then I'll get off ma broken and cracked soap box- I agree with the other posters its entirely dependent on the background of who theyre bringing in... A "Nebraska man" (hate that term that Michigan uses but I'm using it here) is gonna have a longer leash... Outsider, not so much... it does beg the question tho- what's the caliber of the coach they'd bring in and their openness to taking on this job? The answer to this better be a significant upgrade over SF... let's not forget he was the coaching candidate to grab when we did and I'm approaching this job very apprehensively if a guy who knows the state and had a stellar track record prior couldn't get it done.
  8. lol, i got the memo... You do realize the state of Texas has the most members in the Big 12, by far, right? Or did you miss that memo...... Honestly, the texas takes are 95% a load of garbage, OU has seemed to have no issue dominating the league for the better part of 20 years despite some of these egregious missteps you've detailed. You sound like someone who got cheated on 10 times over but wants to go back to a s#!tty relationship as long as there are new guidelines in place.... newsflash, you'll prolly get cheated on again if there's this many misdeeds, even if you convince her to pack up and move to Indianapolis
  9. LOL, why the hell would a conf HQ and title game be located in a state there's literally no school in said conf located in? If we're going this off the wall, why the hell we just not having the Conf HQ and title game in Hawaii? Pros: Great weather Proximity to Hawaiian football pipeline Cons: Far plane trip Semi Pro: Rack up air mile points
  10. You do realize the Big 12 we left is not the Big 12 today, right? Im glad it warms your heart envisioning consistent trips to west virginia like we did back in the 70s-2000s . Also for what its worth, if you want a Big 12 coach I'd argue frosty is prolly towards the top of that list, the offense he wanted to run here originally is what most of that conference rolls with today and has been somewhat the case for the past 15 years now. I'll say this, be careful what you wish for on the conference lines. This is about more than just football and, theorize all you want, the Big 12 will never surpass the Big 10 in revenue pouring into the conference. The size and prestige and alumni base of the Big10 schools is second to none in the college landscape. When viewing all teams, not just football, the Big10 brings in so many more positives for all sports in a way that the Big 12 simply cannot match. You're thinking too micro level assuming a return to the big12 automatically brings back glory days of the past. For instance, the Texas recruiting landscape is vastly different today than it was when we were in the Big12. A&M in the SEC has led to a major shift in recruiting trends in that state because now kids can go to a SEC school and still play games in their home state while in college- its no longer a story of mainly competing w/ Texas and Oklahoma for those kids like it was 10-20 years ago. Lastly, your claim of 100 years of tradition is just false. The Big 12 was literally a combination of the Big 8 and the SWC, stop acting like the shift 10 years ago was unheard of and broke up a century worth of standards. Its college sports, s#!t changes and frankly, nebraska made the right move at the time, and for the future, and there should be zero regrets about that
  11. Makes sense. Admittedly I don't follow the VB team any where as closely to the football and bb programs, appreciate the context!
  12. Genuinely curious, why is John Cook so high on everyone's list- I may be missing something but what's the basis of confidence in a person going from coach to AD at a big time university having a high likelihood of success? Wouldn't we prefer the man stay at the helm of a perennial title contender and not risk that progrum slipping into mediocrity at the hands of someone else?
  13. Hell yeah! More recruiting money, lets go buy some 5*s to come to Lincoln--- I mean, upgrade recruiting facilities
  14. Curious what you define as old system in terms of year or era. IMO, the bowl system has been so incredibly watered down going back to like 15 years ago where now there are just too many and the couple few good matchups are lost in the shuffle and overshadowed by the playoffs. I feel like bowls used to have a unique draw because it gave viewers a chance to see a team for the first time or a classic matchup was at hand. Now, with almost every single D1 school being broadcasted each week, bowl games just seem to be lackluster and lack the compelling reasons for me to tune in
  15. 100% agree here... I think where our situation is unique is our special teams has been absolutely atrocious and deserves a coach of its own to truly own recruiting, gameplan, skill development, etc.... If our STs were even mediocre-average, i agree, seems like reception of the qb coach rides with the success of the qb... but knowing we had a major deficiency on one facet of the game (special teams) and a head coach who knows qbs and has done the job before with some pretty great success (oregon)... I see more value in a ST coach then a qb coach who hasnt necessarily justified his worth
  16. Advanced QB metrics tend to go over my head. All I know is I'd rather have 2018 Adrian compared to the last 2 iterations. I feel like his high completion % probably elevates him in these types of stat rankings. I'd rather have a guy complete 5% less passes if it means he's actually throwing for more yards as we missed way too many big plays that were to be had last year. Talent around always plays a factor as well but I want more aggression and consistency from AM this year. Too many stalled drives before even crossing mid field and turn more of the horizontal passes into vertical ones. Frosty shares some blame too. 2AM has the tools to be top 10 in this type of ranking. If there is not a clear progression this year, or worst, a regression, I think its about time we really reconsider if we need a dedicated assistant for a QB when the results havent been there for 4 years now and Frosty is more than capable of handling that given his past experience.
  17. Not to detract too much from the OP but I want nothing more than frosty to turn this thing into a juggernaut and run it up on some of these teams for a change. Outside of ohio state, this league deserves a f'n thumping from Big Red on fall saturdays for all the ridiculous takes and BS aimed at this program. While perhaps not the most sportsman like, i want a few games up 42-14 in the 4th and we add a couple more 7's to the board. Piss off some of the stodgy AF media members in this league who have a gripe about a game but dont report on s#!t like the original story here. Back to the OP- that article and this story is absolutely horrific and disgusting. Particularly the piece of him getting punched closed fist by his "dad" at the age of 10 after mentioning this to him. What an absolute piece of s#!t, can't wait to see how Kevin Warren and big10 responds to this after decades of parading Bo around as the face of this league and coaching excellence
  18. Naw man, in a sport like football where your physical well being is literally on the line, i feel like unmeasurable themes such as unity and having one another's back is critical more so than other sports. Guy caused some off the field splashes and distractions here and i feel like he burned a bridge to coaches and players alike. Besides, I'm willing to make the argument that even returning as an athlete, he'd be nothign more than a distraction or trick play kind of guy. Between our WRs and TEs we have, Luke is not a superior wide out option and he doesnt currently have the frame to be a consistent running back, which we're badly in need of. Sure, the kid can make plays, he's got wheels no doubt, but his wishy washiness and uncertainty about position is a distraction that isnt worth the squeeze
  19. lol, what an unsurprising plot twist. If he wants to play qb he should just go to Navy or a triple option heavy school. The bad part for him is he's really tarnishing his chances of making the NFL as a skill position guy. I'm baffled as to who in his life is providing guidance and suggestions given his older brother is an NFL MVP at running back and Luke clearly has a noodle of an arm that will never change at this point. Perhaps his fall back for making it to the NFL is the family name and knowing he has the wheels to switch later so give the QB path a chance now- but at a certain point programs of substance and coaches simply won't touch the guy given his headstrong approach here and questionable addition to the locker room
  20. I think conference championship games will now get way more attention. The storylines of say a #10 team in the polls thinking theyre in and then a conf title game upset happens and that chews up a guaranteed spot is compelling. For instance, what if Nortwestern converted one of those turnovers last year and ended up beating an ohio state team that NW defense had in check for a large part of the game? Or the pac 12 title game that most of the nation hasnt paid any attention to in recent years because its either an oregon/utah team or a 3 loss team from the south going for it now gets way more exposure with an automatic tie in. If bama/clemson/osu/ou want to intentionally lose a game to stay out of conf title than theyre prolly also throwing away at top 4 seed and a chance at a bye... Really its dependent on the details attached to it (conf title tie ins) non P5 access, etc.
  21. If anything I think it enables more big time match ups... more pathways to playoffs means teams arent as tied to going undefeated or losing 1 close game. Auto locks for conf title champs enables big time programs wanting to play other big time programs early in the year to gauge where they're at and boost the resume, in my opinion.
  22. Particularly running backs!!!!
  23. Lol, actually u made it sound like Ohio state is all players made up across the country and no kids from Ohio.. then u casually bring up Miami and how no one wants to go there to play when they just posted the 11th ranked class lolol This board used to bring factual takes to the forum and now it’s just chalk full of minimally baked takes such as yours that make little to no sense and then shift the goal posts when you’re called out on your BS. the minimally baked takes is compounded by your responses such as “Miami couldn’t even break top 10 recruiting... when they were 11th” lolol
  24. Damn, that’s a staggering stat. I wonder where we rank on that compared to every single P5 team: I bet we are near the bottom of the list next to a few big 12, big 10 and prolly pac 12 north teams like wazzu and wash
  25. And of course winning helps too. I think this is all going completely over your head tho so I’ll break down a simple comparison - Miami has hovered from top 10-top15 recruiting. we have hovered around high teens to high 20s in recruiting. both teams make the playoffs- who u think is gonna vault into top 5 recruiting first? Chances are high Miami would vault into Bama status way sooner as they’re closer and already getting superior talent to us for reasons I’ve already explained. does that make sense or u wanna keep spewing utter BS?
