  1. Why is someone from North Carolina playing in a Best of the Midwest camp? Is there a Midwest connection or just an extremely liberal definition of Midwest?
  2. If Dixon ends up at WR, NU will have 5 scholarship WRs that played QB in HS (Bell, Turner, Evans, and Moore being the other four). Does anybody think Beck & Co will ever draw up some creative plays to utilize any of the QB skills we will have at WR?
  3. The reason why we have good depth at WR, is because we have a solid starting group and young guys. Definition of depth. If you move all the young guys to DB, there is no long depth and in 3 years, we will have no one to play the position. Plus, you need 2 safeties on the field for a game and need 3-4 WR. We have a solid group of starting receivers plus a solid group waiting behind them. Dixon would be a third stringer, if he was lucky, at WR. Whereas at safety he would be able to compete for playing time immeadiately. Our wide receivers are stacked on a great offense, we are hurting at safety on a weak, unproven defense. He is needed more at safety, he may start at WR but I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps to safety because of the lack of depth there. After a redshirt year, you don't think he could compete for a back-up role in the slot? So let's look at his RS-soph year, there will be no Bell, Turner, Quincy, Wullenwaber. That leaves Alonzo Moore, Westerkamp, Allen, and a bunch of guys from small town Nebraska who realistically can only be expected to contribute on special teams. That means you're relying on Moore (0 snaps in career), Westerkamp (0 snaps), Allen (2 career catches) to 100% hold down the WR position. Surely they will have a little more experience after 2 more years, but it wouldn't hurt to have Dixon in the mix to provide a little more certainty for the position going forward. What's even scarier is if you peek forward two more years to Dixon's senior year. Nebraska has exactly zero players with a single snap in college football that will be playing Dixon's senior year. That's right! In 2017 we will have absolutely no experience at the WR position. None. Zero.
  4. The fact that Warren Buffet went to UNL college of business made a huge impact on Terrell Newby's family.... Just saying. The fact that someone went to a school 70 years ago (after UofPenn) would have very little impact on my decision. I'd guess the school was a little different back then as well. Just sayin... I actually didn't know this until a former boss of mine took his son to visit Arkansas a few weeks ago. Walmart pumps hundreds of millions into that school. Not surprising. As does Tyson foods. What I didn't know is that Wal-mart also requires that any company doing business with them have a presence in or around Fayetteville. That means that something like 400 of the Fortune 500 companies are represented down there. Coupled with the relatively small market - internships are a dime a dozen for Arkansas grads/students. He's looked at a dozen other schools throughout the B12 and midwest (former boss is very wealthy) including Baylor, A&M, etc and he said that Arkansas blew everyone away when it came to the business program and academic facilities. Surprised me. Just telling you what helped with Newby A good recruiter should be able to spin the UNL V Ark business school arguement in our favor. The fact that Warren Buffet went to UNL "70 years ago" doesn't matter. The fact that Warren Buffet is the most successful living investor today is what's important because he represents the UNL brand. As far as Wal-Mart and Tyson foods funding programs at U. of Arkansas, so what? In addition to Buffet, we have Monsanto funding UNL programs. Wal-Mart and Tyson run on margins that are only getting narrower as their competition closes in. Monsanto makes money off of high margins made possible by a growing portfolio of young patents on life itself? Who would you want to stake your business future with? Besides, Monsanto has a former legal counsel sitting on the Supreme Court. Talk about prestige. As far as better internships go, how much time do student athletes have for internships? What's more important is opportunity for paid employment after graduation, and there is simply no comparison in the unemployment rates of Nebraska and Arkansas. As far as nicer facilities due to the Wal-Mart cash infuse at Arkansas, how much time do you think you'll be spending in these facilities. Other than actual lecture time, more time will be spent in the academic support complex for student athletes, where UNL shines.
  5. Does he play on defense? HIs measurables sound good for inside linbacker.
  6. If McWtook the trip to Kentucky to see a free Wildcat's BB game, maybe he's not that interested in their football program. He had a free trip to take, why not? Wishful thinking maybe.
  7. The coaches recruiting of Taylor and Gregory make me wonder of the coaches have learned a little something from Warren Buffet. They were both under appriciated "value" players stigmitized by a history of an injury. Both players came back from their injuries and proved their value on the field but had to wait six months for the rating services to catch up with reality.
  8. I think we're set at RB for this year. Looks like he visited Kentucky ( ) recently and is visiting South Florida tomorrow. I'd be all in favor of taking him. I known we've met our needs a RB for the year, and I'm extremely happy with the RBs we have. However, we've essentially hit all the main bases we wanted to hit with this recruiting class, except CB. I think we are at the point in this recruiting cycle where it makes sense to take a couple of the best athlete/football players we can get without regards to position.
  9. I was off by a month and a half. Glad to see he's four star.
  10. I was wondering about his lack of other offers. He was named his conference's MVP, rushed for over 1600 yars and 30 TDs, and had a 9.4 ypc. Decent size and speed. What does it take to get an offer?
  11. I'm really glad to have him. Seems like he could be a physical WR. Perhaps in the Quincy mold, but possibly more athletic.
  12. Maybe the coaches have commited to the idea of moving Brown to DE, so they want to add another LB to replace him. Just idle speculation.
  13. I hope not. Allen Lazard still has twelve and a half months to realize the folly of choosing ISU over NU. Let's hope he come t his senses. Hopefully Suttles can show Lazard the path to good decision making.
  14. They don't call it the Star City for nothing.
  15. Seisay played this year. I kinda wish he had redshirted. Knew he played but didn't know if the ankle held him out enough to try for a Medical RS. Wishful thinking I guess haha Got it. I'm all for wishful thinking.
  16. Seisay played this year. I kinda wish he had redshirted.
  17. Because WR is so loaded and the DB crew is not (at least in youg DB's), I'd like to see several WR go over to the DB crew. Moore was a standout HS safety (or corner, can not remember which). So was Tariq Allen. These two, at the least, should switch over to the defense where we are in desperate need of athletes. With the RB position stacked too... take a young one and move them to the defense as well. I hate to see positions w/o great athletes and then other positions with so many athletes that great athletes never see the field being buried in the depth charts. Spread that speed and athleticism over as many positions as possible. We do have quite a bit of talent in the defensive backfield as well. Green, Jean-Baptiste, Evans, Rose, Mitchell, Jackson, Cooper. I realize that there is little experience at safety but I would think defensively, that DB is the least of our concerns. It is interesting to me how there seems to be more talk growing of us moving to 3-4. I have no inside sources but seems that more people have brought this up in the last 2-3 wks. Is this just talk or is there a possibility of the change? I completely disagree that DB is the least of our concers, paricularly at CB, for the remainder of this recruiting class. In fact, I believe CB ought to be one of the top, if not THE top priority as we close out this year's recruiting cycle. Of the depth you mentioned above, every pure CB prospect except for Mitchell graduates after this next season. The coaches have been talking about Jackson possibly being a safety, and unless I'm mistaken, I think it's an open question as to whether Rose will be a safety or CB. I'd like to see enough depth at CB that the coaches can put Rose and Jackson at whatever position they will best thrive in rather than having their hands forced by depth issues. Safety is a whole other animal. We are already losing all of our most experienced players this year, but we are much deeper in unproven/semi-proven young player with potentially high upside (Cooper, Walker, Alexander, McWilson, Gerry, Singleton, maybe Rose, maybe Jackson). Considering we often play at least three CBs at a time in passing situations, and we don't even have three known scholarship players at CB come 2014 and none yet in this recruiting class, I don't know how it could be considered " the least of out worries." As far as moving some WR to CB, I'm all for it. I don't like the idea of coaches recruiting a player at one position, then telling them they have to switch once they are here. I'd like to see the moves be voluntary, allowing the free market to work its magic. If a WR doesn't see a whole lot of PT in their future and wants to move to a position with less depth, let them. But we are stacked at corner going into next season. As far as the immediate future goes, we're set. Also, you forgot Harvey Jackson on your list of safeties. And who is Walker??? If you mean Dom Walker from this year, he's a WR. I'd imagine CJax steals a starting spot next year. This kid is THAT athletic. You saw flashes in his ST play this year... He laid the wood and was always near the ball. I'm really REALLY glad he worked so hard to qualify and get on the team. He's just pure football player and I think he's got a HELL of a future ahead of him. I would think that Rose perhaps gets moved to S this next season to get him on the field, if he is as good as advertised. This move may be out of necessity just to put the best athletes on the field. I could see him starting at the other safety spot for a year and transitioning back to the corner spot after the year is over, in order to bolster CB depth, and since it's his natural position. I don't know that they'd want to jerk the kid around like that and not let him settle in. Perhaps he just stays at S for the rest of his NU career. That wouldn't be bad as long as he's playing well. And, we also have Davie at CB, who I've heard some good things about. So, at the VERY least, we have Davie and Mitchell after next season. I'd imagine someone(s) is going to have to switch to CB in the future, unless we snag some CB's in the home stretch in this recruiting class, or load up on game-ready studs there next year. It's certainly going to be fun to watch. My reference to "Walker" was actually a llittle mental hiccup. I meant Harvey Jackson, Not sure why I misrememered his name. Sorry for the confustion. I agree we're set next year at CB. My concern for CB is for after next year. If we assume EZ is right, and C. Jackson ends up a safety and Rose a CB, then in 2014 are scholarship CBs will consisit of Mitchel ( who will be a Sr.), Rose, Davies, and that's it to cover three positions. That's VERY thin. Any additional depth would have to come from: A) Whoever commits in the next twenty-something days B) True freshmen or JUCOs from 2014 class C) Walk-ons D) Players transferring from other positons Option A sounds like the safetest bet to me if we land a good CB or two. Relying on true freshman, hoping we cdan find a JUCO stud, and relying on walk-ons all sound like slightly scary options to me if we want ot chase titles. Option D could be viable. If a reciver were to switch to CB I'd really prefer they do so by this spring so they'll have the opportunity to adjust to their new position.

  19. Sumlin is trash and scum. I don't need to do any research. Thanks. Did he steal your wife or something?? You don't have a clue what you are talking about. No, just havin some fun. But don't come on here and try telling us any team in the SEC, or coached by Urban Meyer, is on the up and up with recruiting and over signing practices. It's pretty frickin obvious. I agree. The nerve of some people to come on to this board and challenge your stereotypes with actual facts.
  20. Wasn't this basically how we got Kody Spano from Oklahoma St? Maybe history can partially repeat itself, excluding the part about multiple knee injuries, having no impact on the team, then transferring.
  21. Per 247, he had 1265 yards on 91 carries (approx 13.9 yards per catch) last year. Sounds good to me.
  22. Saw on LJS that he has enrolled. Somehow I totally missed the news of his commitment last month. Welcome!
  23. Callahan's been gone for over five years. Can we get past the name calling yet?
  24. I don't think he has any BETTER chance of playing time here than LSU. Les Miles will put the best players he has on the field regardless of class. If Priest comes in that good, he will see a lot of time no matter which school he attends. Assessing his chances of early PT may be difficult due to the number of players (including Willis himself) where there is uncertainty about their ultimate position. Jackson and Rose have both been discussed as possible safeties or CBs. Willis himself could be a CB or a safety. There may still be some uncertainty as to whether Heard remains at RB or switches back to CB. If Rose and Jackson both end up as safties and Heard remains a RB, we will be extremely thin at CB come 2014 and Willis ought to get all the playing time he can handle.
  25. No comparison. Yes, Suh wasn't the dominant player we all know him as till his junior and senior year, but at least he was able to play himself onto the field as a freshman and sophomore. Guy can't sniff the field and that's with zero depth at the position. There's obviously a reason for that. Good point. I guess I see Jay Guy just like I saw TMart last year. Not ready to give up on a sophomore. Even though the Suh/Guy comparison is a stretch, I still think keeping Suh's history in mind could be instructive. Plus, there are some additional comparisons that can be made between Suh and Guy. For starters, both Suh and Guy seemed to have better Freshman seasons than Sophomore seasons. Suh was very disruptive off the bench as I remember it as a Freshman. Granted, he earned a starting position as a Soph, but our interior D-line performance was worse in 07 then this past season. In our worst performances against the run this year (Wisky, Georgia) it seems like a lot of the damage was done running the ball outside. In 07 I saw bigger holes in the interior line than I have ever witnessed as an NU fan. Guy actually did sniff the field (not a lot) as a Freshman. Another similarity between Suh's sophomore yr and this past season is that we had a first year D-line coach. I have no idea whether Guy specifically will come around. I do agree with EZ about not wanting to give up on a sophmore. Whether it's Guy or Williams or Peete or Rome, I believe somebody from the 2010 or 2011 recruiting classes will step up and make an impact next year. Throw in the 2012 class and we might be alright.
