  1. How many more times does he have to make bad decisions before they realize they can't trust him to throw the ball away if it's not there? So we are going to abandon the forward pass - interesting!!! Mav you are a smart person - please don't suggest such a thing. I would always try to run first..... and probably second too. I don't care about any stats. I might fake a pass and have Tommie run on a roll out because that's what he's good at.
  2. Maybe the "Riley Factor" will work against us because they know him so well? If it's 1st and goal from the 4, maybe they'll double cover all the receivers??
  3. The stadium Runza's and Val's pizza are usually awful and not representative of their restaurant product. The blue hairs are about the same wherever they are.
  4. What will it take for this board to stop sending me an email every time someone replies to my post? I've tried turning off the notification thing but it still does it.
  5. I just learned that when it's 1st and goal from the 4, we should not let any of our coaches call the play.
  6. Tommie did fine. Why should BTN be excited about us winning a game we were supposed to dominate? Where did this crybaby attitude come from, it seems to be around a lot these days?
  7. It says Oregon put up 53 and 44 points in the first two games.......they are not horrible and we'll have to play a great game to win. Other contributing factors......game is on ABC, it's a nationally televised game at 2:30......we will find out if our coaching staff are natural chokers on the big stage. Let's hope we've turned that corner and learned how to not beat ourselves. Maybe they'll even call the same runs that didn't work against Wyoming with 8 in the box, but whole-ass it this time??( Like maybe a bigass fullback knocking out the first guy through allowing our guy to get 5 yards every time or something?)
  8. Let's hope we don't reenact his experience of getting beat like a drum every year. With all the talent we forget to use, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Knowing you have the ability to win and doing it are two different things.
  9. The problem with Oregon is their offense does the crazy razzle-dazzle stuff that we defend the worst. Misdirection is something we have no clue how to stop. I hope they're working on a way to contain the backfield, our strongest defensive area to this point. The secondary will undoubtedly continue to be a big mess against a legit passing team like Oregon. Hopefully not too many balls will bounce off the back of our guy's head and the sun won't be shining from every direction.
  10. You don't get a lot of credit for beating a team that won two games last year. Matter of fact, you don't get any.
  11. I think Carter is a superstar, but he hardly gets noticed. Same can be said for Morgan and Pierson-El I suppose.....it just seems to me we have some bigtime players who need to be the game plan, not just another guy on the field. I know the coach actually calls specific plays intended to get the ball to certain guys, but it just doesn't play out that way. Just their presence probably makes it more likely that a lesser known guy will be open. My comments have nothing to do with the Cotton-bashing going on in this thread.
  12. I don't think it matters much who starts....we just need to start whole-assing the running game. If that means leading with the fullback, changing the type of plays, whatever.......
  13. Something I'd like to learn........When does Cethan Carter become a big part of the offense?
  14. We learned that the running game needs work. Other than that we didn't learn much playing Wyoming that has won 6 games in two years. We'll learn a lot next week.
  15. The best thing about todays game was the post-game press conference where Coach Riley spelled out exactly what went right and wrong. I'm glad our running game came up against a wall today and not next Saturday at 2:30........now they have time to look it over and figure out where to find or make a soft spot when it happens over and over again in closer games against tougher opponents. Bohl new his only shot against a much deeper and more talented team was to go all out against the run and hope they got lucky. If they had gotten us in a funk and playing scared, there's no telling how it would've gone. If we want to beat the best teams, we HAVE to run....Tommie can't pass THAT good and we have to even it out. I'd like to see Ozigbo on the field with Newby.......maybe not as fullback, but just another option.
  16. I don't know what rugby-style tackling is, but it might be a good idea against these teams where all eleven guys run a different direction.
  17. The new style of football makes the D line look ineffective, but I thought they did great and the blitz calls were effective most of the time. Still need help from the secondary and I think it'll come as they get better at tight coverage. We seem to have an abundance of young athletes in both areas.
  18. Yeah special teams didn't look like anything to write home to Ma about, but our guys hardly had a chance to field the ball.
  19. As much as I like Craig Bohl and want him to succeed at Wyoming, I just don't think Wyoming has enough horses for this rodeo.
  20. Yes, we'll have Tommy Armstrong doing what he does best.....standing in the pocket throwing strikes to receivers on the run. His accuracy and completion percentage will be nothing like what it has been for his entire college career. He's been studying the Johnny Football quarterbacking app all summer and has corrected every throwing mistake he has ever had. Surely, going away from the run and airing it out in a shooting match against West Coast athletes is the formula for success.
  21. I am so disappointed that we lost. I really thought a ball-control running offense with some well timed passes would be the way to go. When I saw our starting RB running with his head down and no hesitation, I thought he'd finally turned a corner and would be much more effective against tougher defenses. Then our second string RB came in looking like a runaway bull and it looked like the defenders were afraid to get in front of him. You'd think this style of play would make it much easier for us to avoid turnovers and control the clock, but silly me.....I guess sitting in the pocket flinging passes around is the only logical way to go these days?? On the defensive side, at first I was pleased that we were calling random blitzes from different areas to hurry their QB who seemed to throw it into the stands as much as he threw to his receivers. We also contained the run pretty good, making them one dimensional........but it was all a ruse and we soon fell into their trap. Boy, did they see us coming! About the only thing that really gave us any chance at all in this fiasco was our DB's ability to see the ball with the back of his head and having plenty of time to make the tackle by playing 5 yards behind the receiver. Well, you can't have everything. I hear the volleyball team is supposed to be good this year. GOOOOO BIIIIIG REEEEEED.......GO BIG RED!
  22. Success is a verb......they have to go make it happen.
  23. With the other guys we have coming in I don't see him jumping into the limelight. He'll be a decent backup in case A. disaster happens at the point, B. he starts lighting up the scoreboard, or C. he shows himself to be a great point guard and excellent defender. But we already knew that.....at this stage of the recruiting game we just had to roll the dice and hope for the best. His size could be a big plus if he can pass like Magic.
  24. Uhhhhh, two NFL draft picks later and you hope for addition by subtraction? What? I want to let it be known that I'm for addition by addition .....or multiplication even.
  25. yes, quite the novel comment;..stop the big plays.....yawn I'm excited to hear that they will try to stop the big plays because stopping the little plays is so boring. Actually what I've seen is not much luck stopping the intermediate, chain moving plays. I think they should NOT, let me stress NOT, get 8 yards a play every time they throw the ball. That's just me.....maybe I'm a stickler for stopping drives??
