  1. Uh, did it translate into a bunch of bigtime recruits? I think it must be far harder to recruit to the frozen tundra league than it was to tell the Texas guys they could go back south and show up the schools that snubbed them. I also don't see many of the guys in the upper midwest who are used to playing in snow having any allegiance or desire to come to Nebraska over the other BIG schools in their area....maybe Illinois because those schools kinda suck right now, but not the other clannish states.
  2. What is Cotton gonna do besides be a figurehead coach? It'll be the same assistant coaches doing the same things....except this game will be under favorable conditions unlike the arctic BIG games. I think we win. That's not the Cotton he's talking about. Oh yeah...the wind guy. I saw Cotton and went right to coach.
  3. Even with the easy schedule next year I could see us losing to BYU, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan State ,and Iowa.....Then a bowl game. Other possible losses......hapless Miami , maybe a Northwestern type team pulls one off. Then again, we could win them all.

  5. One question for everyone......what kind of assistant wants to work for a school that fired a 9-3...10-3 coach for being too aggressive? I'm thinking probably none and we're fortunate he's getting his trusted guys to come along so he doesn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel......JMHO.
  6. I hope you don't want to keep token coaches from the current staff......that would be a bummer to me. I'm not sure who nationally is dying to join up with Riley either.
  7. Huskers love the heat, hate the frozen tundra.........the later the better, love night games........having everyone healed up gives us as good a shot as anyone.....the asst.coaches really want to pad their resume' by not stinking this one up....plus it'll be a nice vacation for the players in San Diego.
  8. Travelling fanbase talks again........they had us much lower in the pecking order, but obviously the Bowls have a say and are looking at the bucks. I'm a little disappointed we won't play out in the pasture at that farm, that would've been fun watching them dodge the cowpies.
  9. Right now that vizsla excites me more than this staff they're assembling.......with the Santa hat vizsla's way over the top.
  10. What do you guys who have been there think of the Holiday Bowl atmosphere,.....I heard the stadium is getting pretty run down?
  11. What is Foster Farms? Are farms sponsoring their own bowl games out in the pasture now?
  12. Probably none of them are doing anything at 2:00 on Tuesday anyway........what a weird time to have a Bowl game....(assuming we go to Nashville)
  13. Yeah, that Solich team that caught a bad case of fumblitis and was I believe Charlie McBride's last year was one of my favorite of all time. If you look up and down that roster, there was a ton of talent on that team.
  14. I just would prefer that the committee keep it's rankings to itself until the final one like the basketball selection committee.
  15. It's really hard to judge anything at this point. Riley is nationally known as an even-tempered nice guy and a knowledgeable coach who is liked by his players. It's hard to have an opinion about his assistants because, let's face it, most of us know nothing about them. It's pretty standard for a new coach to bring with him the guys he knows and trusts,....I'd find it very odd if he didn't. We'll just have to see how it all plays out on the field next year.....what else is there to do?
  16. I think the Music City Bowl would be best. I'm assuming it will be at the Titan's stadium right next to downtown where all the bar action is as well as the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame.
  17. According to someone familiar with the coaching staff search Scott Frost will not be coming to Nebraska. You can look it up. Still waiting for details on whether it was his choice or they don't intend to offer.
  18. I saw that. They did just win the Pac 12 title after all. First one for both. I don't see the Riley/Frost thing working. They run vastly different systems and Riley is his own OC. Riley said that we was not totally married to his offense system, just some parts. Riley said, "Hey, I know next to nothing about Nebraska,....what should I say?" and some local guy said ,"just say blah blah blah walkons blah blah tradition blah blah willing to listen blah blah I love you Lincoln blah blah you're a great audience blah blah............."
  19. Maybe Wisconsin didn't have insiders watching the OSU practices??
  20. Thinking about Frost...... bringing him in as OC would make this hire make sense. Not necessarily that he should run the same offense as Oregon in the frozen tundra league, just that I believe many of us would be more willing to look at the long term building process. Frost going to OSU would be about the same as Frost going to Kansas IMO.
  21. I don't think it matters whether we're negative or positive. If Riley does a good job and puts together a winning team we'll all be behind him. If his team is bad , all these positive people who claim this was the greatest hire ever will turn on him like a pack of hungry hyenas. Some of us might point out that he's doing okay but there are just a few things that need fixing, but we'll be called every name in the book by these same experts who will be strutting around sportin' a tomato face like Bo after a bad call and passing around petitions to exile the coaching staff from the state.
  22. I really doubt a hothead who is on Barry Alvarez bad side was ever considered a candidate........like Perlman said, it's absurd considering why Bo was fired.......complete insanity.
  23. Exactly, Perlman reads his emails that boosters will not donate if Bo is still coach , so he goes and gets the nicest coach in the country who has a knack for developing walkons and diamonds in the rough. With all the bluster Alvarez Jr. made about having the resources, I thought for sure we'd bring in a known professional with the ability to bring in top recruits on name recognition alone. Getting Frost as OC is intriguing because of his history here and might help some doubters buy in to this hire, but there is no guarantee that Scott is anything special outside of the Oregon environment full of Jimmys and Joes. Still, I'm all for giving Frost a shot because of the kind of guy he is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Riley....the whole thing is just a headscratcher and the local media propaganda campaign hasn't done anything but make me think this is nothing but smoke and mirrors.
  24. Ok. We get it. You live in the NW and watched OSU and you hate the hire. Nebraska will be soft and Riley is terrible etc. You have put minor variations of the same post in every Riley thread. If you are worried that there are still some members of Huskerboard that don't know your opinion, then make a new thread and make your same post for the 1000th time. Then there can be no doubt everyone will have had a chance to read it and you can stop being an annoying broken record A guy who knows the coach well brings you factual information and this is how you respond because he's interrupting your little circle jerk? The admin has a lot to prove with this hire........not everybody is as giddy as you and your pals. Still waiting for the big Frost hire that the board insiders said was a sure thing..... if that happened this hire might make more sense. What can you prove is factual about what he said? That he lives there and watched him his entire life.......that's more factual than anything I'm gonna get from the 5th grade circle jerk here.
