  1. That's assuming threats were made. We don't know jack. Could have just been somebody telling his kid his dad was an idiot and should get caned. I'm trying not to be too judgemental knowing next to nothing, but Beck's attitude with the media and fans is growing tiresome. I hear ya...don't know what's being said either...but if someone is sending threats to a strangers house or phone then that is terroristic threats. I don't care what kind of true fan they think they are or how popular and knowledgeable they think they are about Husker sports, but they're not Husker fans.
  2. I'm pretty sure it's a criminal offense....terroristic threats or something.
  3. I think Jethro Bodine may have attended school at both of those fine Kentucky institutions?
  4. Yeah, good observation. If things like this are happening ,then someone on the field needs to figure it out. That they don't and can't figure out what's going on tells you a lot about their talent level. They need to be smarter and make plays instead of looking like pee wee league players and expecting the coaches to spoon feed them.
  5. If that's what happened ,it sounds like a rookie mistake. Same as calling the same audible every time or locking in on the receiver.
  6. But a wingback/flanker would be right up his alley.....and the suggestion made to have him on one side and Ameer on the other sounds like a good plan.
  7. I think it was the Jimmy's, not the Timmy's. The offense flat sucked and I'm not making excuses for their rookie style play.
  8. That's exactly what I thought....but maybe they think any waving makes the defense stop going for the returner??
  9. The more I learn the more I learn that I don't know anything. Football is so incredibly complicated and there's such a tremendous amount of thought and work that goes into it by everyone involved that at the end of the day I just have to sit down and admit that I am an outsider with no more than a layman's uneducated opinion about what's going on, and usually along the way I'll form an opinion about something, only to figure out new details at some point that make me realize I was dead wrong. That fumbled pitch by Newby against Michigan State last year is a perfect example. On the surface it looks like he just failed to make a routine play, completely inexcusable. But then a week ago Hail Varsity writes out an article that goes into how the angle and position of the sun in relation to the stadium is a very real obstacle and how Terrell had the sun right in his eyes, and also went from shade to daylight at the very instant of trying to catch the football, which can't be easy for the best of them. True, we just don't know what they're dealing with...........if the pass to Moore is a foot shorter, maybe we win the game. That's how it is.
  10. There's a kid on the roster at WR named De'Mornay Pierson-El .........maybe they should give him a look?
  11. When we go back to our usual run blocking and Ameer is running for 200 again, they'll seem like super studs once again. Give MSU some credit, they were pretty good.
  12. Couldn't disagree more. He's got big play ability and has clearly shown that he can catch too. Especially with the injuries we have at that position. Get this guy in space and watch out. Until he proves us wrong how could you not call his number more. I'm not a fan of slow-developing backfield plays like end-arounds. Quick misdirection from the wingback position gets into the secondary a lot faster. I don't fault Beck because he has tried a bunch of different things ,but the execution many times looks like an eleven man clown car.
  13. I know! The gathering of people here at my place were PISSED. Absolutely ridiculous, that signal is basically a universal signal that you'll see in any football game for "get away." In order to legally call for a fair catch, your hand has to wave above your shoulder. It's like the officials weren't even watching him. I think the officials forgot to take their Geritol....they seemed slow and disinterested the whole game.
  14. In real time it looked like a tougher play.....and yeah, he may have been out of bounds by the time he caught it. Imagine MSU's reaction if he had caught it and won the game.
  15. He's obviously has speed and once he gets into the open field he's a threat to take it to the house. Once he's in space he's a lot of fun to watch. If I were Beck I'd be drooling over him. If he can catch punts then surely he can catch passes one would think. Yeah, he can catch great, but the ball just doesn't seem to make it to him enough to take advantage of his running ability. I'm not sure what the right formula is and I bet the coaches are scratching their head too.
  16. Tommy is a humble guy who works his ass off to get better. He knows he stunk it up most of the night and when he sees his nervous rookie performance on film he'll make a huge leap forward. This is the first time he's had constant pressure and came upon a defense that plays solid in every area, shutting down the run, and putting the game on his shoulders every play. He hasn't had to pass under pressure like that before and he'll see how it caused him to lock in on his primary then bail if it wasn't there even more than he usually does. He started doing some scrambling to buy time and our line didn't help him a damn bit, but throwing on the run Ganz style is a whole different type of passing that you don't just get overnight. I'm not sure what Bo's temperament has to do with any of this...or Beck's calling an outlet pass to a back 7 yards away that Tommy was too rushed and nervous to hit? I also didn't see anything that impressed me about the backups...a lot of miscommunication and overthrown passes is what I saw. It's hard to say we should put in the 2nd and 3rd string when we hardly played them in blowouts..... I have absolutely no idea what kind of QB we'd have if Tommy went down.....maybe we should play them when we're ahead instead of leaving Tommy in to the last second? The rest of the season I think the plan should be to go back to the running game that was working and work hard on all phases of the passing game so it's not as much of a crapshoot the next time we play a defense as good as MSU.
  17. Should we go back to the Johnny Rodgers style wingback? We don't seem to have much success connecting with him at the receiver position.....nothing we couldn't do with any other receiver anyway.
  18. Dude, you are one of my favorite posters on this board. I really like your insights. Not the typical "safe" observations that most people make so the rest of the people on the board won't scream at them. Having said that, however, I have to disagree with you on this one. There were plenty of pass opportunities for Tommy. How many times can you miss a swing pass to a back by 7 yards when nobody is guarding him? Tommie was just atrocious in his throws last night. There were 5-10 throws he easily should have had for completions last night. I'm no huge Beck fan, but I think this one's on Tommy, not Beck. Add to that the angry message board mob with torches and pitchforks that would've been after Beck had he "thrown it beyond the linebackers" at the beginning of the game instead of "sticking with the run" and Tommy's throw went into the hands of an MSU safety. Our losing had a heck of a lot more to do with the Jimmies than it did with any clever strategy.
  19. Since it has become primarily an award for the best player on one of the best teams, you'd think his chances just became slim.
  20. Could someone explain that, the numbers didn't add up to go for 2 the first time. Had we kicked the extra point both times, we could have kicked a field goal to put it into overtime. The first time we went for 2, we had just scored from a 27-3 deficit (24 points). We want to go for 2 to cut that into 16 points (2 scores). The second time we went for 2, it was 27-22 and a successful conversion would have cut it to 3 points (FG). So it was the correct call in both cases. I see what you mean. I don't agree it was the right call because I have more confidence in getting the easy extra-points and a FG than I do in converting twice against this defense when we couldn't run for two yards on 1st down from the 20.

  22. I learned that Michigan State is not as good as I thought they were. It looked like they could've beat us by 50, but here we were about 9 inches from catching a pass in the endzone and winning the game. It's hard to believe the coaches can watch Trevor Roach play all these games and have him behind someone on the depth chart, sure makes me wonder. Tommy's still just a rookie and he let his nerves get to him and basically fell apart, rushing throws, locking on receivers, ....I think he'll watch this game and make a big jump when he sees the way he played. Our rookie secondary players aren't comfortable and because of that they're always looking the other way so they don't let the receiver get away. Many times they didn't turn around for an easy interception. A couple times the receiver reached over our guy to get the pass. Westercamp is our best receiver, has Spiderman hands, if he had more speed he'd be scary. I learned that we may not be getting the most out of Pierson-El and now teams will avoid him like the plague. I realize he's a freshman but why would you not put the ball in his hands? I learned that Beck reads the message boards during the game to determine which plays to call, but apparently they haven't practiced any of them much because they always seem to have the right play executed terribly. We do actually have a fullback and he caught a pass....this is not one of those Sasquatch things, I saw him with my own eyes.
  23. I'm thinking maybe Alonzo would've done better on defense. Right now I'm wondering why we can't do more with Pierson-El.......same thing?
  24. Fyfe's passing was as shaky as Tommy's. Seems like both guys either throw it right on target or to the lady in the 5th row...no inbetween.
