  1. Ohio State will remain good but they aren't guaranteed the conference championship every year. There will be other good teams. OSU will lose a player here and there that are difference makers and have a little down year. Yes, they are at the top now. But, things change.
  2. I agree. One of my biggest pet peeves of TV games is the producer getting creative with the shots when the play is just about to start or going. So often, the team is lined up, getting ready to snap the ball and we have a close up shot of the QB's face. Really? Like we give a crap about that. Give me a view of the entire field please.
  3. Early signing along with the ability for the athlete to take OVs during the summer before his senior season could be huge for Nebraska.
  4. I disagree, last year's team should have little bearing on a ranking of this year's team other than a shallow baseline. I also believe those that aren't comfortable with making major changes to the preseason poll, even dropping teams that win in the first month should have their voting rights taken away. The preseason poll is based on nothing and the first month or even six weeks, you shouldn't be beholden to it in any way. Bingo!!!!! Too often perception is based on what happens in the first three weeks of the season because ABC team beat XYZ team that was ranked 6th in the country. Meanwhile, half way through the season we all realize XYZ team really isn't very good. But...ABC has already propelled up the rankings based on that win. It's a ridiculous system.
  5. Sean Callahan retweeted Robin Washut ‏@RobinWashut 11m11 minutes ago #Nebrasketball MT @BadgerMBB: Frank Kaminsky (concussion) has been cleared to practice, expected to play Thursday
  6. Why would I be pissed. He was a horrible coach when here. Maybe he has grown and learned something about being a HC. That happens many times when someone fails at something. In fact, many very successful people failed at what they do at least once. They grow, learn and still have confidence enough to try it again. I actually wish him the best.
  7. That's half the conference either in good shape or headed there. That is a very good base to build around. Now, if teams like Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers can up their game, it all helps the conference in so many ways and thus helps Nebraska even more. Yes and no. A more competitive conference helps our reputation as a competitive conference, but our 10 - 3 champion will not make it to the playoffs. If that happens it happens. I would still rather have that than having a one loss team maybe not get in because they get absolutely no respect from anyone outside the conference. 10-3 conference champions don't happen very often in the power 5 conferences. Almost always there is one or two teams that are really good that maybe have one loss. Even in the amazingly all powerful SEC there were undefeated and one loss teams at the top. Having all these teams really good does't mean all of them will be dominant all in the same year. There typically will be one or two that are really good and 4-5 that are good and having a slight down year. The trick for the conference is that hopefully we will win multiple NCs of the next 10 years but it be several teams that win them. Unless, of course it's Nebraska ....then I want every single one of them.
  8. I watched a little bit of it? However, everyone I was watching it with always wanted to switch back to regular ESPN because their split screen views caused the actual camera view to be so small it was hard to follow the game. I would like it better if they would simply have one view on the screen at once and that view be the over head view from a distance you can see the entire field. I love that view but even on my 54" TV it was many times just hard to follow the game. Loved the discussion.
  9. Which "other" bowls meant less this year than they have in previous years? Huskers should remember when the Orange Bowl was always must see tv and often the winner was the national champion. Now they have to use their contracts to select teams worth watching. In the future there will be some Oranges pitting Notre Dame vs ACC #2 (who is already on ND's regular schedule). Boring. The Rose will take a hit when it isn't a playoff, this year would have been Arizona vs Wisconsin, compared to TCU vs Wisconsin where the Frogs were playing for a credible share of the national title even if not the official argue (and probably playing for a conference invite). The Peach and Cotton should be better, as they are being promoted. Still it's not like the old NYD when any bowl could affect the national title. AND Drunkoffpunch teams played for their final AP ranking since it was a viable talking point since things were not run by computer/committee. Even in the BCS bowls like Oregon-KSU they played for a top 3 ranking and the right to claim they should have played for the title. The Orange bowl only meant something because there was a contract between the Big 8 and what ever conference the florida teams were in and they happened to be good teams that were playing for a championship. That is the ONLY reason. It wasn't some grand scheme that made this great Orange Bowl game one of the deciding factors in the NC. If the winner of the Big 8 was ranked 25, they were still in that game and it meant nothing. The Rose bowl for decades meant nothing (most years) because the champions of the Pac 10 and the Big 10 weren't anywhere close to winning anything substantially. But...hey...everyone watched because we would turn it on and hear constantly how it was the "Grand Daddy of them all". But, the game meant nothing. So, I fail to see how these bowls have all of a sudden become meaningless just because a playoff system was put in place. In fact, NONE of the bowl games have reduced in meaning. for 99% of them, it only meant something to the players, the fans of that team and maybe the fans of that conference that wanted to see their conference do well. Other than that, they are literally meaningless. This entire argument about OMG....the bowl system was so miraculous that we shouldn't put a play off system in place because it will ruin it is total hog wash and anyone trying to still argue that is either delusional or refuses to see reality. I think I saw where the first round of the playoffs was extremely highly ranked TV as far as viewership. The last few years, the viewership of the championship game (if I remember right) had fallen. I honestly can not believe there is someone still trying to argue that this year's bowl season and playoffs weren't the most exciting post season in college football in a very very very long time. There is no reason why that should change if not get even better in the future years. Yeah, I agree with you. I think some people are thinking about this backwards. All bowls, except for one, have *always* been meaningless to everyone but fans of those games. This doesn't make the non-playoff bowls meaningless, it elevates a few bowls to having meaning beyond the participating teams and their fans. I mean, okay, it's nice to know if your team is going to end up, say, number 5 or several spots lower depending on the outcome, but nobody else really cares. In a playoff, I'd really be concerned about most of the other games in the bracket, too! ETA: I think a lot of people are concerned about the "meaning" of the regular season based on the structure of the playoff in the NFL where a relatively large percentage of teams get in. Even if the field were expanded to 8, it would still be, what? 5-6% (edit: 6.3%) of all teams? Teams still have to dominate their regular season schedules to be part of that top-tier group. Your last paragraph is so true. There were more games this regular season that meant something than any previous regular season I can remember.
  10. Here is what I've learned from having this argument for years now. The people who pine for the old days are upset because of one thing. They love arguing about who should be the NC by giving them the "eye test". This almost always comes up in what ever conversation about this subject....."Well, XYZ team shouldn't have been there because they just don't pass the eye test". I have never understood quite what the "eye test" is. Is this a beauty contest? If so, I would much rather watch the cheer leaders than the football team. Sports are designed to be won on the field in competition. Not from some stupid poll by some one who has absolutely no ability to watch every game nor even the knowledge needed to make that decision and the entire process can be manipulated so bad it's sick. I am so glad the powers that be have finally moved college football into the modern era and out of one of the most ridiculous methods of choosing a champion ever invented. The regular system means more. The bowl's and the championship game means more. Anyone still hanging on this entire argument only wants to argue. That is the only conceivable reason why someone would still not be able to see the pure excitement and interest around these three games. Well....that would make sense since those are the people who pine for the days of actually arguing on who was best because the teams had no chance of proving it on the field.
  11. Agree, Trev branded himself a classless coward for the way he handled that situation. Trev probably could have handled the communication with Coach Denny better, but the guy had to make a tough decision for the long-term viability of the entire athletic program and the University. From what I see going on at UN-Omaha from afar, it seems like the athletic program is doing fairly well since the move to D-1. Their basketball, baseball, and volleyball programs are winning. They have a new on-campus arena being built, and the University seems to be in great shape to move forward as a solid alternative to UNL. Agree. I bet even Trev probably sits back and agrees that he wishes he could have handled it better. Live and learn. Sounds like the coach has moved on and is successful. I'm sure the kids were hurt but I'm sure they have moved on. I'm not going to judge anyone based on one act like this without knowing the exact reasons why it was done a certain way. Still not fully understanding why he wasn't introduced last night with the rest of the HOF class. That was frustrating.
  12. To me, the teams that are there or headed in the right direction are: OSU MSU Wisconsin Michigan PSU Minnesota Nebraska That's half the conference either in good shape or headed there. That is a very good base to build around. Now, if teams like Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers can up their game, it all helps the conference in so many ways and thus helps Nebraska even more.
  13. Well, my first reaction to the idea of a tariff is..."What a dam stupid idea". Yes, some oil industry jobs will be lost. But, it means SOOOO much more to the economy to have cheap energy that more jobs will be created. I know people in Williston ND and yes...the place is booming and there are jobs there. But, the place is hell on Earth right now. People who have lived their entire lives there are moving away. There can be better jobs created elsewhere. We did something absolutely fantastic with our oil boom. It made OPEC stand up and notice that we are serious about developing our own energy if they do nothing but sit there on $125 oil and laugh all the way to the bank.....while supporting terrorism against us. Now, we have cheap oil. Our economy has the chance to rebound and grow. NOW, the government needs to do smart things and that is to continue to develop other energy sources. Just because oil is cheap now, doesn't mean it will always be cheap. Well, I guess I still stand by my first opinion of the tariff idea. It sucks.
  14. Exactly. I want to be in a strong conference and hopefully the strongest in the country. I don't have any desire to be in a conference where if we get to the end of the year, it's questionable if our champ will make it into the playoffs because the conference is so weak. OSU is rock solid. In actuality, they have been rock solid ever since Urban has been there but they had the post season ban. Nebraska has their work cut out for them but I love it that we have top teams in our conference we will need to beat to win conference titles. If we win one in the next three years, I don't want to hear...."Yeah...but it was in a weak conference"....BS.
  15. Honestly, I think solich had it all except the recruiting. At least he was the closest.
  16. I believe they all have a high football IQ. The difference is that urban and saban and TO know the psychology of the game. That's all the way from recruitment to off season to practice to game day.
  17. You gotta get your hands free fast to celebrate.
  18. he also questioned jokingly if anyone really knows what a "pro style" is. I'm sure there have been a lot if people throwing that term around they don't know what they are talking about. Also, I'm not sure if Riley ever actually used that term to describe it.
  19. What's up wth no trev Albers announced for HOF.
  20. You are aware that Riley publicly had said he was thinking about making major changes in his offense even before he took this job? And, that they will mold their offense to fit the talent we currently have on the team? Yep and yep. But coaches go back to what they know and why would you want a staff to come in that has never coached one type of offense and try to start running it? And sure I might be wrong...but it is what I think I'm not saying I expect them to go from a prototypical drop back passing attack to a wishbone triple option. I expect them to have plenty of passing. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't work into the mix more of an attack that takes advantage of a QBs running ability. It also will be interesting to see what he chooses to do as far as tempo. Those sorts of things can be changed especially when you have a very experienced, well seasoned coaching staff. Heck, TO completely changed his own offense around 1980. I don't expect that type of change. But, I would be surprised if they run exactly what they ran at OSU.
  21. The word "the" in his sentence (to me) implies he is talking about "the" WR coach that "was" most recently at OSU. I'm interested in his clarification.
  22. Totally different IMO. This has sexual contact as a part of it. One side saying consensual the other saying it wasn't. But she is suing because she said that Altman and the university allowed him on campus despite his past sexual misconduct investigation. But they are saying he basically raped her. Don't think Moss did that. She is suing Altman and U of Oregon for knowing the guy had a history with sexual misconduct and still brought him on campus. Exactly! Correct. I'm just saying this instance and Moss's aren't the same. It makes no difference. Both were/are known to have issues with sexual conduct. A coach or a University are not going to take a chance on allowing them in only to have something horrible happen down the road. So you don't think Moss will end up somewhere else playing football?? He probably will. And if he acts up, the coaches and university cold get sued just like Oregon. Nebraska is choosing to not play the odds. Yeah...what St. Paul said and I'm fine with the University's decision on this.
