  1. Man those alternate uniforms were hideous.

Heh. "It's been suggested to look at total fumbles rather than fumbles lost."

"Okay, now the Patriots numbers aren't even the top, but they're still very good, and the teams that are better are dome teams. STILL UNCANNY"

"If we remove all of the dome teams the chart still looks like I wanted it to in the first place."

  3. Probably because you don't understand the concept as Ron Brown sees it, or for that matter, myself. There are what people are, and there is what people do. Ron Brown is black...he was born that way, he wakes up that way every day. Homosexual people are categorized by what they do. They wake up and do something that is homosexual like in nature...it's a choice. It's not.
  4. I would think this is the problem. How awkward would it be if he knew he were coaching a gay player? With how outspoken he is, does he try to coach the 'gay' out of the player? And btw it's not being PC. Why should people be discriminated against? What are they doing to harm you? Land of the free, they just trying to live their lives like the rest of us. Yea. I mean, he's essentially said he would.
  5. Yes I would have a problem with that. I'm assuming that UNL faculty rules are pretty similar to Illinois where I am now. Any faculty using their position for political campaigning is likely to be harshly reprimanded and likely fired.

That the one with the Minnesota accent? Because that drops any woman down to a 2 for me. I f'ing hate that accent. She's easy on the eyes though.

You allow your women to speak? There's your first mistake.

ZRod is right on about the accent. I do like how they try to make it look like she is doing construction . . . when she mostly does design.

  7. I think you're spot on, Elf. Which is probably where the trouble comes from. Public universities can't be affiliated with any religion, so if a guy wants to run a program like they would at a private Christian school, or private Mormon school, or private Islam school or whatever, then they'll run into issues. Largely though Ron has really not had issues, at least not that we know of publicly. He leads all those postgame prayers and nobody seems to have a problem with that (and it's also not unique to Ron Brown, right?). It doesn't get much more public than that and that is something that always seems to be applauded. I think the problem is that gay marriage had become a public issue in Nebraska, and Ron Brown enlisted his fame as a Nebraska Cornhusker to draw attention to his views during some very public hearings. It's his right, but a little awkward. His views shouldn't be applauded either, given how much they share with previous generations that had equally strong opinions about who people like Ron Brown should be allowed to marry. Listing his address as Memorial Stadium was not his right, and was in fact, a violation of University rules. By doing that, he made himself a representative of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at that meeting. He's very lucky to have kept his job afterwards.
  8. Fundamentalists have an almost pathological need to feel like they're being persecuted, and they invent it when there is none. An authority of the state? He was a running backs coach. His evangelizing wasn't crap. Overdone? perhaps. Depends on who you ask. But make no mistake that he made players better. The proof was on the field every Saturday. Who employed him? Was he not in a position of authority in his capacity as a coach? It's inappropriate for a person to use their position of authority to evangelize. It's not OK from a lowly bus driver for an elementary school, much less a teacher / coach. I dare say that Ron Brown could have counseled the young men in his charge in a secular manner and you would have no problems with that but once he includes his faith, that's when the outrage begins. Um... Yea, I think that's his point entirely.
  9. It's also the only house in the city with a finished basement. Or a basement. Earthquake codes be damned.
  10. Probably not fit to discuss here. Maybe in the politics forum, or I'm happy to PM with you about it.
  11. I can't at work, any way you can give a rundown of the highlights? Check out the podcast later when you have time. it was a 25 minute conversation, and as Benning would say "there's a lot in there". OK, listening on my phone and I have to say... I'm glad he's gone. Thanks for your efforts and good luck.
  12. Yeah. If you make $300,000 in Hastings, NE you can live like a king. If you made the same money in San Francisco you might have to rent a house. Actually you'd have your cool motorcycle riding brother in law and your old college roommate move in. Together you'd all take care of your three precocious daughters and hilarity would ensue. This seems familiar. Would they live in a house that is impossibly big with endless areas for new bedrooms?
  13. "New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Thursday he was "shocked" when informed of the allegations" He's shocked. SHOCKED, I SAY!

  15. Yea, I think Brown's baggage was a big factor. Very well could have been a mandate from on high that Brown wasn't retained.
  16. Excuse me, it's the Keystone JOBS Bill now. Get it right, folks.

If the refs were handling them on every single play how could they possibly not notice? I'm beginning to doubt their was a problem.

That's surprising too, but I guess it's possible. But, if they called attention to this at halftime -- resulting in the ball delay to start the 2nd half -- then by that time the balls ought to have been brought back up to standard.

I hope they find something else to talk about until the Super Bowl. This topic couldn't be any more uninteresting.

  18. I think you have to say his full name, and spell it correctly, for it to count. But I'll 2nd it anyway
  19. I think it is mostly with regards to the fact that for (what seems like) ever, the staff has always had 2 black guys on it. Brown and Gill, Jordan and Gilmore, Sanders and Brown, Brown and Joseph, Brown and Warren. How having 3 this year compares to the rest of the country, I really have no idea and I doubt that Foreman does either.
  20. Well this is the worst case scenario of a Super Bowl.

The good news is, I won't feel compelled to watch it. Absolutely hate both teams. Can't even pull for one slightly more than the other. Yeah, free day.
