Some good and bad overall. Loved the call ups. The US is having somewhat of a golden generation and with possible olympics, nations league, and WCQ coming up we need to see where some of them stand, and playing international soccer is great exposure for some of these guys. Musah in particular being a possible steal. 17 years old and playing regular time for Valencia in La Liga. Born in NYC, moved to Italy and then England. Could play for all 3 plus Ghana.
The good-
-The midfield was spectacular. Kept possession and were all over the field being physical, pressing, and disrupting Wales. All 3 starters were outstanding.
-Brooks is healthy and looked great distributing the ball from the back.
-Dest was probably could’ve had a couple assists if not for some weird lineup decisions(more on that later).
The bad-
-No Pulisic (injury) or Sargent (travel restrictions)
-Starting Lletget as a false 9? Huh? He only makes the squad after Sargent can’t leave Germany and then you start him way out of position? Reyna’s game translates better to a false 9 and you have 2 more strikers on the bench.
-Midfield was at times TOO crowded. Not having a true striker and one of your wingers being more comfortable centrally at time made the spacing and structure bad.
-KDLF doesn’t look ready for this level.
Overall happy with the game minus the weird lineup. Lots of new faces and limited training together means the chemistry isn’t there yet.
