Don't you think a large portion of voting decisions are made by people saying, "I don't want to vote for _________" ? Kinda the 'lesser of two evils' vote, you know?
I voted for Bush in 2000 because I thought Gore would have been a terrible president. While I didn't like Bush, I didn't like Gore more, and voted against him more than for Bush. For example.
Oh...that's very common. However, I believe Duke has supported Trump for a long time. Meaning, he chose to support him above many other candidates on the right. That's why I'm asking him. He had other options at that point other than Hillary and he chose to support him anyway.
However, saying that, I am absolutely so disgusted with the thought of someone like Trump being the Republican candidate that I honestly think this election might be the election I sit out. I have NEVER done that before. I have voted in absolutely every election that I have legally been able to do so in.
But, I honestly can not in good conscious vote for this man even if it means Hillary has a better chance of winning. (which is a pretty disgusting thought by itself)
To me, this is much different than voting for McCain because I don't want a liberal Democrat in the office even though I didn't like how McCain ran his campaign or his running mate.
So.....I'm simply asking what drew him to Trump in the first place and what does he see that keeps his support behind him.
In all honesty, I WISH I could sit this one out, but I think that this is THE most important election of our lives. Also, I think that things would be MUCH easier if Trump were to NOT be elected....in the short term. Trump represents ripping the band-aid off. It needs to happen sooner or later, but by prolonging some of the issues that we're experiencing now, we're committing to a long, slow demise.
In the short term, the Trump victory will likely result in SERIOUS civil disorder
In the short term, the Trump victory will make things LESS safe
In the short term, there will be a LARGE portion of the country that is VERY angry
But I think that these unfortunate realities are worth preserving the long-term viability of the country.
Full disclosure: I've never supported a Republican candidate before (don't really feel like I'm doing so now, really). Worst case and Trump doesn't win, at least many of the GOP have been exposed hopefully widespread change will finally come to the party.
