  1. Why do you think Warren could win, but Biden and Sanders could not? Biden has already been involved in the White House for 8 years and I think there is some fatigue with him. Sanders is loved by his fans. There are some who could vote for him. But, there are one hell of a lot of people in the US that just view him as a loony toon old man who supports socialism. Warren has been working hard in congress to support various liberal agendas. I think she could be packaged in a campaign as someone who is strong for the working class and women but not the crazy grandpa someone pulled out of the basement. In order of chances of winning, I would put it as: Warren Biden Sanders. But, I think a charismatic younger person who is articulate and passionate for the liberal agenda would do better for the Democrats. I'd like to add the following (not clear on their personal goals, so this is just my dersires after seeing them in action, and they're likely biased based on my personal agendas) but all bring youth: Schiff Harris Moulton Kennedy I like Warren, she has done me well in MA, but (and I can say this because I'm a woman, but admittedly I cringe when I say it) she is shrill and I think even more so than Hillary will turn people (i.e. men) off. We need someone less polarizing. I agree wt you - she does come across as some what shrill.
  2. Off the top of my head, I came up with 7 more that have been in the rumor mill (and wiki'd their ages). They all are 10+ (most 20+) years younger than the "big 3" mentioned above. Kaine 59 Klobuchar 57 Harris 52 Gillabrand 50 Booker 48 Garcetti 46 Kander 36 Yes, and this is the pool the Dems should draw from for their next run at the presidency. I think Kaine is kind of goofy but some of the others are good, solid individuals that could compete well. I think Booker being towards the top of that list.
  3. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/05/world/asia/north-korea-south-us-nuclear-war.html According to the NYT article, the war would be very costly on the human scale. The initial strike by USA/SK would have a retaliatory response from over 8000 artillery/missile launchers on the NK side of the boarder - many which can reach Seoul.
  4. If the Dem party has any hope of reinventing itself and rebuilding - it has to go wt a younger set of candidates. They have to also get away from old has beens - in Clinton and Biden. Bernie at this point should be about the "movement" and not about him - thus he should prepare someone to take his issues before the people. While Warren would be consider a "movement' candidate - I see her age becoming an issue long term as well. (How ironic from a guy who wished Reagan could have ran a 3rd time!!). The reason I say this is that the Repubs have a large group of younger potential candidates for 2020 (If Trump can't run for a whole host of reasons or if he is opposed within the party- my hope ) and 2024. The 3 Amigos - Cruz, Rubio and Paul from the last primary season, plus Pence, Paul Ryan come quickly to mind. Plus I could come up wt a dozen others from Congress & Governorships, not to mention a few business types following the Trump roadmap.
  5. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/case-assassinating-north-koreas-leader-173628582.html Our only option??
  6. Yes, and trump may be 'offended' into a war.
  7. Won't he be 95 then? The Dems need a younger face. I heard the other day that their congressional leadership average age is 76. Sounds like all of those Soviet leaders that kept dying off turning Reagan's first term. He could never get a chance tp negotiate wt anyone - they kept dying off of old age. Kremlin finally got smart and elected a young guy - the rest is history.
  8. N. K. had a successful test of their ICBM missile. The administration is calling it a "New Escalation" . It was a mobile launched missile and it could hit Alaska. So what should the admin do about it? China isn't doing much. Sanctions aren't doing anything. Do have our military do a preemptive strike (think Israel vs Saddam back in the 1980s attacking Saddam's nuclear site)? What are our diplomatic options. Do we sanction China because of their trading relationship wt NK? Do we send the Seal Team in and take out the guy somehow?? Only China has the power to fully sanction NK and stop oil shipments to them etc. However, China has increased trade wt NK this year per a Trump tweet. Trump is probably stating that he has exhausted all routes to resolve this. SK and USA did a counter missile test yesterday. He is setting the stage for a preemptive strike. However, if Russia and China stand on NK's side this could get real bad real quickly. Trump must decided soon what to do. His ultimate responsibility is to protect the nation.
  9. Trump in his own mind - arguing against himself = schizophrenic
  10. Who will be playing who I suspect the Great Negotiator will get played like a cheap violin.
  11. Knapp, good post. It is appalling what Trump is doing wt the tone he is setting. I wish the repubs could wash their hands of him but they are holding on to him to get an agenda past. It is one thing for a party to defend a President on policy (dem or repub) but it is another for a party to 1. look the other way/ignore or worse 2. defend the President of their party. This is when personal values are pushed down to expediency. This is how dictators gain power. Good people not standing up.
  12. The unintended benefit of the GIF: revealed once again how unfit Trump is for the office. His temperament doesn't match the responsibilities of the office.
  13. Here is my kool-aid - offense. Langs has his QB. Langs has a system. Langs system works great wt the right QB. Therefore, we will surprise on offense. Here is my koolaid - defense- New DC gets the fire lit. New scheme is brilliant. We over perform on D. Here is my koolaid on Riley - Riley get's his surprise win but adds 2 - beats Oregon, Wisc, and PSU Overall, win West Division - Lose 2x to OSU. Do I think this will actually happen no but this is the thread. Best hope is a only 3 loss season getting over that 4 loss hump
  14. I was more interested in the grilled hambergers and ice cream they were showing!! Made me hungry and I just age lunch.
  15. http://www.latimes.com/politics/ Pence has to watch his step - in regards to the balance between loyalty and his own political future.
  16. Well I'll say this - Donald Trump as brought liberals and many conservatives together as never before ....... against him. The GOP leaders who stand by him will in the end get soiled by their political loyalty. Romney and Kasich sound so much better at this point - it is just an astonishing miss by the GOP primary system.
  17. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/smackdown-trumps-insult-act-comes-071001566.html The president as a pro wrestler - the parallels are there. What kind of image does this portray around the world
  18. You are going to get me to take back all of my criticism of Obama's policies aren't you wt this thread!! Actually, one can disagree with policy and still respect the office and the man in the office. However, Trump's actions gives me no respect for him and that is starting to reflect on the office. I have to remind myself of all of the previous presidents (Dem and Repub) who respected the office and acted presidential (minus Clinton who soiled the office).
  19. This guy is full fledged mentally off of his rocker. With the latest Tweet/video of his tackling a CNN reporter - there is no doubt. For anyone to stand by him and excuse his 5 year old tweets is at best a tin foil wearer or at worse, deranged like him. If we cannot build a Amendment 25 article 4 case now, I worry about what it will take.
  20. I heard some of that on TV this morning. It's going to be interesting to see if this is just a dead end lead or if this is the match that lights the fire. If this is true, it will be bigger than the janitor finding the open door at the Watergate. This could bring Pence down with it as well as I don't know how you that high in the command, as vp nominee, and not know of this kind of stuff going on behind the scenes - unless he has some plausible deniability - a favorite DC escape hatch.
  21. I think we have found our grounds for removal for psyco reasons.
  22. Yes, he can. Issue is that it will have to be the VP that initializes the movement, and it has to be agreed to by the cabinet (and he can fight them on it, which would then open things up to a 14 day open debate in front of Congress). Sadly nothing I've seen leads me to believe that any of them have a backbone or a thought of their own. Unless there has been activity from below and aside that we aren't aware of, and there's certainly some rumbles of discontent congressmen, I don't see it happening. There was a really great overview of the possibilities on NPR recently - I'll try to find it. One of the better 20 mins I've spent. EDIT: give it a read TG, I think you'll like it: http://www.npr.org/2017/05/04/526857048/trump-s-fitness-to-serve-is-officially-part-of-the-discussion-in-congress I'll go to the link but I believe we are talking about illness, etc that prevents the president from fulfilling the duties of the office. What if the guy is a complete Jack. A.. in office. Not sure they can remove for that. Here's the wording from the constitution: I may be misunderstanding your post, but the illness comes in the 25th amendment to the constitution. It was added in 1967. (after they realized during the Kennedy shooting, had he lived he might not have been fit to serve). I thought TG was specifically asking about him being a Jack. A. and not illness. EDIT: Here's the text of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment: Yes, I'm familiar wt the 25th article 4 - just didn't know if it covered being a Jack A... Unless they can determine it is a phyco problem. There is a dem bill in the house that is being pushed to use this on Trump from a phyco perspective.

  24. https://www.yahoo.com/news/cyberbullying-advocate-melania-trump-defends-presidents-brzezinski-tweets-163041400.html Kind of a conflict don't you think: Melania's 'cause' was to reduce cyberbullying yet her husband engages in it daily with his tweets. Part of the article: The disconnect between Melania Trump’s promise and her husband’s campaign tactics were quickly noted. Lady Gaga, the pop star and antibullying advocate, tweeted at her, saying, “to say u will stand for ‘anti-bullying’ is hypocrisy. Your husband is 1 of the most notorious bullies we have ever witnessed.” And through five months of a Trump White House, there has been no movement on Melania’s program as the president continues to use his platform to attack everyone from his predecessor to a union leader in Indianapolis to Snoop Dogg. “Mrs. Trump is being very thoughtful when it comes to building out her initiatives,” said spokesperson Stephanie Grisham in a May statement to USA Today, adding that she values “quality over quantity” in assembling her staff. However, a White House official told Politico earlier this month that the issue was no longer a priority. According to that story, “It’s still not clear exactly what initiative Melania Trump will make her platform — during the campaign, she said she would use the role of first lady to speak out against cyberbullying. But that initiative has since been cast aside, another White House official said.” It went on to say, “Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, claimed Melania Trump is still passionate about the issue, even though she has yet to highlight it in any public appearance. ‘While cyber-bullying is something she speaks out against, that is but one subset of her focus around the overall wellness of children,’ Grisham said in an email.” The first lady has not mentioned bullying of any kind since taking office and has not outlined any other planned proposals.
  25. So my question still stands: Can a President get impeached for action unbecoming of the office? The bigger question is will the Repubs ever get tired of all of this childishness in the WH and turn against him en mass? If the Repubs win the midterms, Catty bar the door - Trump will become even more emboldened and who knows what will flow out of that cease pool. As a guy who has voted Repub most of my life (mostly - not all elections), I never thought I'd see the day.........
