  1. Well, not Trump blaming Clinton, but how about Hannity blaming Obama? https://www.mediamatters.org/research/2018/02/05/hannity-has-been-blaming-obama-downturns-stock-market-decade/219280 https://www.mediamatters.org/embed/clips/2018/02/05/58133/prn-hannity-20180205-money Thanks, Obama...
  2. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/barfknecht-during-realignment-big-ten-pondered-taking-four-more-from/article_2d507fc0-3337-11e5-8cc1-4373847a1bfe.html?TNNoMobile Read the article for yourself. It was a Lee Barfknecht article from 2015. Nobody turned anybody away. There was some speculative talks between athletic directors in June 2010 involving NU, ISU, OU, KU and TAMU to the Big Ten. Indications were positive, but the NU to the Big Ten move happened the same month. This shut down the process before anything formal could be offered or accepted. This information came straight from an anonymous Big 12 AD's mouth, talking with Lee.
  3. I like that scenario. Final games of the season: NU-OU Wisc-Iowa NW-Ill MN-KU (The Glen Mason Rivalry game) Or with pods: Northwest Pod MN-Wisc NW-Ill Southwest Pod NU-OU KU-IA
  4. I think you meant to use this image: Maybe he will display the "bigger button" on a float
  5. You may want to clarify that you are referring to Lance Leipold, not Urban Meyer. *edit - now I see the bolded. Carry on...
  6. Well, there are a lot of ways to compare how "good" a coach is. Here's one way: http://www.coacheshotseat.com/WinningestActiveCoachesIA.htm Urban is #1 among active coaches in career win-loss record (coaches that have coached for more than one year) 1) 84.7% Urban Meyer 2) 82.5% Chris Petersen 3) 80.4% Lance Leipold 4) 79.4% Jimbo Fisher 5) 78.1% Nick Saban Urban is #1 among active coaches in current school win-loss record (coaches that have coached there for more than one year) 1) 89.5% Urban Meyer (6 years) 2) 87.0% Nick Saban (11 years) 3) 83.3% Paul Chryst (3 years) 4) 81.0% Mark Richt (2 years) 5) 79.4% Jimbo Fisher (8 years)
  7. Saban at Alabama has had the most talent of any team in America on its roster, and its not even close. In order for Saban to perform up to the same standard, he would have to win every single national championship over a ten-year span. He has done very well, but technically you would have to say he has under-performed his team's talent. That's my point. After you get above a certain rank, the talent level means less as you compare it to on-field ranking just because the difficulty level of being undefeated is too d@mn high. Besides, who ever claimed Urb was better than Saban? Nobody, that's who. Straw-man argument. They are both in the top-5 for active coaches IMO. I think the argument you were making was that Urb's coaching was sub-standard. So compare him with a coach on the level of sub-standards you are referring to.
  8. Saying Urban Meyer has under-performed at a school like OSU is a little silly IMO. Comparing recruiting rankings with final standings becomes far less accurate as you get to the top teams. Mainly because it is d@mn hard to consistently finish in the top 5, regardless of talent level. It's a hell of a lot easier to over-perform your talent when you average in the 40's or 50's, like Riley did at the other OSU.
  9. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/02/ohio-senate-bipartisan-compromise-redistricting/552413/ So Ohio Lawmakers have just about agreed to work together in a bipartisan way and end gerrymandering by....... wait for it........including the minority party in the process. Wait, what? There's a catch, right?
  10. I think I may have watched that video much more closely than you, and you have a guy on one side that was bad, and that girl on the other side was also very very violent. She came charging in without a permit. Nobody wants to say that, but i'll say it. There were many sides.... /s
  11. Having children isn't cheap. No amount of tax breaks or maternity leave will even come close to covering your costs and time commitments. Those costs in time and money are plenty of incentive for some people to choose not to have children. Sorry, but I don't see childless people being "victimized" or "punished". I see them having lots of spare time and money they can choose to spend how they please.
  12. Big XII: IMO the Grant-of-rights agreement not being renewed was telling. It will expire in 2025, but the BTN agreement will be renegotiated in 2023, so getting out of the GOR will be more financially manageable at that time than now. Look for Oklahoma/Texas/Kansas to start "shopping around" in another 4 or 5 years. (IMO) Another factor for them is access to the playoff. Right now they are at a slight disadvantage, being the weakest Power-5 conference. If the playoff expands to 8, though, just being considered "power 5" would guarantee access, more or less. The perceived or real weakness of a 10-team conference then becomes a strength. Texas and Oklahoma would be in a good position to guarantee an easier path to the playoff than if they were in the SEC or B1G. So maybe they stay put.
  13. I disagree. I think you have it backwards. The quote you are referencing from Riley was made AFTER the announcement to move the game. I got the impression that Riley was toeing the company line, and coming up with a reason to support the move, rather than the other way around. After the backlash, SE changed his tune, and so did Riley, when asked about it in a presser. He said something to the effect of "It doesn't really matter one way or the other (shorter prep time)". It was basically the same process as when the B1G wanted to have some season games on Fridays. Initially, both SE and Riley said "OK, Big Ten, no problem". Then after there was some backlash from fans Riley made a statement about "Friday being for High School Football traditionally". And not wanting to do it. Since we only have official statements, we won't ever know who initiated the move. I could be wrong. IMO ADSE wouldn't stand up for Nebraska, and HCMR wouldn't stand up for himself. Both were weak in their own way.
  14. If I am reading this article correctly, It points to 4 major causes for the uptick in wages: 1. The unemployment rate has been falling for nine years, and has now reached a critical point where workers are increasingly hard for employers to find. This is forcing their hand in raising wages. 2. Raises stemming from recent tax cuts. 3. Raises stemming from recent increases in minimum wage by 18 states. 4. Janet Yellen's low-rate policies stimulated growth and hiring. Only one of those four things can be claimed by Trump or Republicans. Minimum wage increases are opposed by Republicans across the board. Yellen is now being replaced by Trump, despite both her critics and supporters acknowledging her achievements. This is likely strictly for political reasons. If most economists think the tax cuts have had a positive affect, I'll believe them. I won't blindly follow the party line. OTOH, it would be nice for a Trump supporter to acknowledge Obama's role in lowering the unemployment rate, and Democrats' roles in increasing the minimum wage.
  15. I don't think that it was SE that wanted it moved. The idea to move it probably came from the B1G or other schools, or the BTN, or ESPN, who knows? The problem with SE was more that he failed to advocate for keeping it, displaying his ignorance of what is important to Husker fans and players. The quick about-face after the backlash is evidence of this ignorance, IMO. He just never had the pulse of the average fan, or even the average booster. That's a major problem in my book. Out-of-touch is NOT what you want to be as an AD.
  16. I'm seeing last year's recruiting class ranked on 247's composite as #23 with 224.33 points (20 recruits, 6 4-star) https://nebraska.247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/Commits If we add 4-7 more, and the most likely at this point are: Robinson JBB Taylor Tago plugging those into the class calculator gives a score of 224.54 (20th right now, but #23 using last year's final numbers). So Riley's best class would be the "basement" for Frost's first transition class? I'll predict 20-23. Excellent, given the circumstances.
  17. I don't think it was the staff, so much as the recruits using it. Tyjon used it. An article from "Land of ten" said this: "If you’ve seen the small black flag emoji that recruits use, that was something Radley-Hiles started." I still don't know the meaning of it, though. It's a relatively new emoji. https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/brendan-radley-hiles-mike-rileys-greatest-sign-nebraska
  18. I'd love to see some follow-up on these statements by Epley as well: Has Nebraska released scores every year, or did they stop doing that?
  19. I haven't thought much about that. Would that be considered "tort law"? It would be interesting to see if that is different in other developed countries that provide health care. People should always have a legal pathway to protect their rights, though. It would be interesting to see how tort litigation affects the bottom line in other industries. One would think that a public service, like law enforcement, would be different from a company that sells its services. In other words, is it harder or easier to sue a police department, a hospital, or Toyota for damages, and how does that affect those entities financially? isn't @RedDenver involved in law?...... *sends bat symbol*
  20. I started a thread like this back in November. It was called: "Real Efforts to reduce Healthcare costs". Basically the same topic, and there was some decent discussion in there. I like your title better as a catch-all. I wonder if it would make sense to merge, or add the old posts to this thread? One of the themes I have seen with articles discussing the causes of high healthcare cost in America is a lot of finger-pointing between Healthcare providers(hospitals), Insurance companies, Drug companies, medical equipment companies, and government entities. All of them are to blame, I think. The entire system needs fixed. The efforts discussed above are all positive things, but at the end of the day, Governmental regulations and oversight would be the most effective at controlling prices charged for healthcare. That would create a domino effect that would force prices down for insurance, drugs and medical equipment, I think. The "free market" model just shouldn't apply to healthcare, IMO.
  21. Yeah, I thought I got the whole "projecting sarcasm in texts/posts" thing down, but I still manage to piss people off once in a while.... I end up having to use that stupid "/s" symbol. I get why people use emoji's so much. I just try to minimize my use. You know, because I'm an emotionally repressed male that is afraid to seem effeminate or metrosexual. /s
  22. Sure, I'll expand on my response: I....was....being....facetious.... Just making a joke about Trump's famous generalization of Mexican immigrants. Sarcasm directed at Trump, not you. I thought you would get it. Sorry. Your post was spot on. I agree that Hispanics, Latinos and Mexicans are likely to be pro-life, and socially conservative. Which is ironic, given the demonization of Mexican immigrants by this administration.
