  1. You mean like Michigan? It's working really well for them. ........and Clemson got the pleasure of being blown out on national tv at home by Florida State. Clemson's OC and DC are near the top in assistant pay.
  2. Stanford is a great program. I think we should also realize the media will make them the flavor of the week with their win over Oregon. Stanford is tough.....watching Florida State, the media would be referencing the speed and maybe saying Nebraska needs to get more speed. The correct answer is likely both.....Nebraska needs to get tougher and faster. In other words better. I think the coaching staff has that same desire. We'll see what team the media makes the flavor of the week next week. This week it's probably Stanford.
  3. a lot of cherry picking for someone accusing someone else of ignoring facts to suit a misguided argument. two athletes that may or may not have cared about academics and one school in the nation that benefits from strong academics. or wait, we better watch out for that up-and-coming football powerhouse harvard. Location.
  4. I think our great recruiting the past two years would come as a surprise to people outside of Nebraska. The last two classes have been, maybe, marginally better in terms of the rating services and offer lists. They have been wildly better in the eyes of self-styled amateur recruitniks who think they can evaluate talent by reading message boards and watching a 5-minute highlight video. So far, the results are inconclusive. I think our younger guys look more athletic to some fans because those fans desperately want them to be more athletic. If you listen to Husker fans, the freshman are always faster and more athletic than the upperclassmen who have been in the program a few years. If you are saying I'm a hopeful Husker fan who thinks our defensive line is going to be pretty dang good......then you are correct.
  5. Is Oklahoma a better example then? Or Wisconsin? Let's recap the past several weeks at Oklahoma. Lost to Texas. Blown out by Baylor. Stoops got a contract extension. Anything else I missed?
  6. I think it's more than just focusing on Armstrong. Having Kellogg share reps in games is beneficial to be able to pull Armstrong at times and give him the in game coaching that will aid in his development. The way I put it is Martinez is 2-2 on the year as a starter and the combo of Armstrong/Kellogg is 4-0. It's not just about Armstrong.
  7. I agree with you there. Stanford is in a much better spot than Nebraska. The NCAA Division 1 bylaws say that an incoming student athlete (SA) has to meet "the regular published entrance requirements of that institution." Bylaw 14.1.6.1. That means that, beyond NCAA requirements applicable across the board, a prospective SA only has to meet the school's general admission standards, however high or low the school sets them. Like a lot of top schools, Stanford doesn't really have a minimum high school GPA and SAT/ACT since it can rely on its academic reputation to get lots of quality applicants. The odd thing is that for a top high school football prospect with less than stellar academic marks, it's easier to get into Stanford than NU (which does have minimum requirements and an admissions department that sometimes does a bad job of working with recruits). At any rate, a high-ranking school administrator can make exceptions to admissions requirements if it publishes a policy stating the grounds for exceptions. Bylaw 14.1.6.1.1. So, Stanford has a great location and gets to sell its academic reputation to recruits without actually being burdened too much by admission requirements. But we can find can find schools in our own conference that have done more with less than Pelini has (e.g., Wisconsin). I'm not convinced Wisconsin has done "more with less".......they've sent quite a few to the league in recent years. Russell Wilson and JJ Watt certainly do not indicate a need to do "more with less" to me. Yup, and those NFL draftees just fall out of the sky in Wisconsin and have nothing to do with the staff in place. I don't think it's any secret we need to recruit better and have done so the past two seasons.

  9. I was with you and respected your opinion until the last sentence. Maybe it's semantics and maybe I am reading this wrong, but I've only one time been embarrassed during Bo's time here and that was after Wisconsin in the CCG last season. Missouri, and Oklahoma. 2008 Iowa State, 2009 Texas, Texas A&M, OU and the bowl game, 2010 (yep they should have ran the table that year) Wisconsin, Northwestern at home, Michigan, Bowl game Ohio St, UCLA, CCG, bowl game. (all pathetic efforts or a slaughter) Lowering your standards might get you laid, but I don't recommend it for your alma mater. Well, this list pretty well covers every Pelini loss as head coach at Nebraska. Sadly it doesn't. I could have thrown in both losses to VT, and two to TT. Everything else I listed was a loss that had no business handling or was a complete embarrassment. I would have been fine losing 31-21 to Ohio st last year. I will never abide NU getting 50+ dropped on them. All Pelini losses covered. Check.
  10. I would want nothing more for that to happen. Hell, I LIKE Bo Pelini, but what I don't like is 4 losses every single goddamn year. The same stupid mental mistakes every goddamn year. That one, knife twisting, loss to a team it should just steamroll every goddamn year. That one (or two) embarrassing, ritual ass beating where the wheels completely fall off every goddamn year. And I'm really starting to despise the excuse " this is the best we can do managment wise" when I know that the commitment level from the university is to winning, what I see other programs do with the same obstacles Nebraska has and then some, and what I saw with my own flipping eyes across the entire athletic department not that long ago all prove otherwise. And that's starting to happen every goddamn day. I respect your opinion and losses piss me off as well. I am one of the most positive people here and I don't think anyone can deny that. I refuse to believe any school can beat us on Saturdays no matter what. The most frustrating thing to me is that we see the potential in my opinion only to be let down the next week. It gets tiresome for me because my belief is that our head coach CAN do it and our players CAN do it. The thing most a admirable is that we refuse to let some of the cheaters corrupt us. Not too long ago was one of our commit's moms given a job at an SEC school basically as leverage for him to switch his commitment. I want this program to represent everything that is still good about CFB and what I hope will be good again. My only question for you though is what other schools do better than us with the same obstacles. The one currently laying a Beatdown to Oregon for starters. They might even have more obstacles than NU Or they might not. Academics. Location. Location. Location.

  12. For some of those who thing Pelini might have it tough if he was no longer the head coach at Nebraska, there are some things to keep in mind. Pelini's record and winning percentage is very good. Especially compared to other coaches on reported "hot seats". Pelini has coached under some of the top coaches at both the NCAA and NFL levels. Nebraska.....again if there would be a separation.....would revisit our status of getting rid of winning coaches. If the coaching fraternity is fairly tight, which I believe it is, I have my assumption which party would be better off immediately.
  13. Who's are you going to get to replace him?? This is what bafffles me about some of the fire Bo crowd, everyone wants him run out of town, but rarely is a alternative choice given... And he was too fiery......and now he's too beat down.
  14. No kidding. Bell was in Boulder, wanting to go to CU, they didn't recruit him. I don't know if CU recruited Colter, but he was at Cherry Creek high, which is one of the best high school programs in the state. How did they lose to Douglas County? Mike Moudy Huh? I'm talking about this year. 'Twas a joke

  16. 1936 was the first year the AP started naming a national champion
  17. His last pick, he was under pressure because Abdullah whiffed on his block.
  18. And that little powered buggy thing with the Missouri helmet on it. I was sitting on the grass on the hill with some Missouri fans around me. As they went wild, I pointed to the official's arms in the air signaling touchdown.
  19. Pelini didn't put his system away. It's not like the players designed a new system from scratch. The coaches and players communicated about what the players felt they could best execute within the "system".
  20. Which one? I was at the Fox & Hound in the Tech Center. In 97, I was in my dorm room at UNL. Then we were pissed because the channel we were watching didn't get back from commercial until after we scored in OT. We found out when the guys down the hall watching the other channel started yelling. They just started a new watch site literally three blocks from me not far from the Belmar area. I went to the Fox & Hound at Park Meadows, which might be the one you are referring to, for two of the first three games. Last season I went to The Draft in Littleton several times.
  21. Except the drives with Armstrong tend to stall out for the reasons above on the opponents side of the field instead of our own side, which helps the field position battle.
  22. So your argument is the defense plays slightly better against weaker competition, so obviously Martinez is to blame when the defense doesn't step up against the better teams we play... Am I being punked? Where are you Ashton? What's with the competition argument all the time. What's the big difference outside of UCLA? Is Minnesota really a juggernaut next to NW just because they sqeeked by them? One side: Wyoming, So Miss (probably worse than SDSU, Purdue, and Illionois), UCLA, and Minnesota Other side: SDSU, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern. Again, outside of UCLA, the competition arguement is rather silly too. It's not that far off. And as far as the argument of what Taylor did last year, that has nothing to do with this year. But sorry, i'm sticking with my premesis on this. Football is about a lot of mentality and psychology. I pay attention to these kinds of things rather than x's and o's. This is an obvious assessment at this point. Agreed. 8 games in, 2-2 with Martinez.....4-0 with Armstrong/Kellogg.....and I'm no rocket surgeon.
  23. Pelini did indicate Armstrong will start at Ann Arbor in the post game. 10:00 mark of the presser and again about the 12:15 mark......http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/videos/video-bo-pelini-postgame/youtube_0f318d6f-39db-59b7-b385-4cc9c7f3b2c1.html
  24. I would add Enunwa also. In my opinion one of the reasons the Armstrong/Kellogg tandem works better for us is it allows us to focus on utilizing our backs and receivers in a more consistent and efficient manner. When Martinez runs the zone read for example, he's really the focus.
  25. For the Missouri game in 1997, I was sitting in the grass on the hillside with a mix of Nebraska & Missouri fans. Yesterday I was at one of the watch party sites in Denver.
