  1. Tom Osborne was Pelini's boss until this year. And in Osborne's statement, he clearly addressed Pelini's successes both on the field and off......so I guess we are fortunate that Osborne would apparently not agree with your assessment.
  2. I assume you are referring to former players who played for one of our coaches before Pelini. Part of what I took from Osborne's statement is he was convinced by his weekly meetings with Pelini over the course of time that Pelini wants to be here. And obviously Osborne heard every single word on the recording.
  3. If this were phrased differently, I would agree with it. Pelini's defense is not crap. Talent wins. Our other hero Charlie McBride took quite a bit of criticism himself.....and I'll tell you what helped that criticism go away.....how about a defensive line that saw all four positions end up in the NFL (both Peter bros, Wistrom, Tomich).
  4. Or I would clearly understand it's from an incident before I was in the position of AD at Nebraska. I can't see where Eichorst would be confused about it happening and being dealt with prior to his hire.
  5. I think Jay believes it would be beneficial to have an influential player from Osborne's era to be a link with the current team. I think he's referring to a role perhaps like Stai. I don't know that it would need to be someone like Frazier or J Peter, but I think that's the type of situation Foreman is alluding to. I understand where Jay is coming from, and I like the things Jay writes. I find Foreman to be insightful and generally complimentary toward Pelini.
  6. Oregon has not won a football national championship. It will be interesting to follow Frost as the season progresses.
  7. This blogger may have been better off waiting on the official statement from Nebraska before writing this.
  8. Rest of it is here So there we go.....TO found out about it and addressed it with Pelini about a year ago. Looks like TO has Pelini's back.
  9. That and Perlman and TO already knew about the tape and talked to Bo about it last year. The several day pause before the statement says to me they were hoping to out the source. If that's true, why was Bo talking to the media this morning as if he had no idea if he was going to be disciplined? If it had already been handled in 2012, why wouldn't Bo's responses included something along the lines of "Tom Osborne was aware of these comments and the existence of a recording more than a year ago, and addressed the matter with me then" I don't see what waiting has to do with outing the source. Something still seems odd about the timing of this all, the leak, the response, the NU statement...everything. If this was truly dealt with over a year ago, it would have been swiftly dismissed. Instead they let it brew for 2-3 days. Not everything that goes on behind the scenes gets addressed immediately. Also sometimes things don't get immediately addressed because of legal protocols.
  10. I agree. But if Bo did shop around and I suspect he sorta did, the best thing he can do for himself is to come clean. This is a PR issue (well, nightmare) for him right now. It isn't looking good when he's maintaining denials and nobody's really having it. What's so hard about saying, "I've had some issues in the past here and checked out some other openings, but it's all in the past and I'm here now, and here to stay"? College coaches checking out other opportunities is an absolute given and done almost completely behind the scenes.
  11. I would tell you Pelini does not have a single losing season as a head coach....not even close. And yes, Frazier certainly knows a lot about football.
  12. I don't know if I'd say Osborne was a fluke. He has a great offensive mind. There are rules and limitations in place now that TO didn't have to deal with back when.....TO recognized this coming with the formation of the Big 12. I understand we recognize his loyalty, but he looked at options......
  13. If this was the only thing Bo had going against him, it would be brushed under the rug. I'm surprised no one's mentioned it (i read all 19 pages this morning so maybe I missed it), but I don't see this as much different than Gundy's media rant defending a player 4 or 5 years back. The "I'm a man" thing. It was public, it was direct at the media (technically just an extension of the fans), and it made cast the university in a somewhat negative light. I'd say this is a little worse, but not by much. The difference is Gundy was leading a program in the right direction, Pelini is leading this program in the wrong direction. Can that be changed? Not my decision to make. I think at this point though we are far, far away from where we ended 2009. That's over 3 seasons of a declining team. It's not really something that can be denied anymore. Gundy might be leading his team in the right direction. Or he might not be.
  14. It has been mentioned.....just about two or three pages back. TO had a serious look at going to Colorado in the late 70's.
  15. This is the most insightful and thought out post I've seen in 17 pages. Excellent.
  16. Yeah, but Osborne kept his mouth shut and instead concentrated on putting a better team on the field, so we all lived happily ever after. I realize that performances like the UCLA come at a price, and how much and how many trash talking tirades one is willing to accept to get curb stomped by UCLA is a personal preference, so mine might not line up with yours, and I'm okay with that. There's a UCLA thread on here somewhere. It doesn't change the "Yeah, but" that TO was looking. And the bigger point is we've seen what it looks like to fire a head coach every six years and we've seen what can happen with longevity.
  17. That is true......though TO was nearly ran off about 15 years before the first of those three.
  18. That may be enough time for two more head coaching changes at Nebraska.
  19. This was true when Pelini was hired....it was true before the recording was released.....it was true before this thread started....and it will be true going forward.
  20. +1 agreed. +2.....though I think Eichorst would exercise a lot of caution about such a move 6 months into his tenure.
  21. That's true. Starting to really seem like Bo wanted the OSU job from the start. Or, apparently, an SEC job. I always kind of figured this, but now it's clear that Bo has few if any emotional ties to Nebraska, the University or the state. His players, sure, but players are gone in 4-5 years. If you don't have any liking towards the fan base or the city, what's the incentive to hang around long term? The weather? We named the field after someone who wasn't far from bolting.
  22. I guess we're 0-3 since 1997. I guess we can't strike out forever.....or at least until we're looking for the next head coach in 2018.
  23. What about those who played during the Devaney era, or Solich era, or Callahan era?
  24. We're really gonna compare the relationship between a coach and passionate fan to a guy at the grocery store checkout counter and the guy buying brownie mix with an expired coupon? I'm sure either side will use whatever comparison fits their agenda
