  1. problem is TO won these kind of games. If he got blown out it was to a top 10 team. I agree.....just saying the public calling to pull the coaching trigger is not new.......and our history at least gives us something to think about as far as long term results of keeping a coach in place. it just means we have standards in place and no coach should think he doesn't apply to those standards. If Bo was smart he would ask TO if he had any motivational tips he can use for his own players or any kind of help. Yes, I'm familiar with your use of the word standards. My point is that Nebraska is a glaring example that sometimes change is short sighted. Pelini and TO have had discussions about Pelini's job being called for.
  2. Support and candidates may be mutually exclusive.
  3. During the presser he stated I think 5 or 6 times I don't know so if he doesn't know he should get somebody that does. but then that would mean he would have someone more knowledgeable than him! If only he would read this board.....problem solved.

  5. History evidently repeats itself......the topic of this thread was discussed during TO's tenure.
  6. I think Beck's "avalanche" comments are spot on regarding the performance of the offense. Pelini made mention in his post game presser of his disappointment in the offense for all 3 games this season......it was a brief yet interesting comment from Pelini.
  7. Our offense sucks. You nailed it, QB play is horrid and I'm counting the days at this point for change there. -13 yards rushing at the QB position, are you kidding me!?! We are playing a QB that doesn't throw well because we thought he was a dual threat. We thought he was going to be the best running QB in school history. That's moronic to cling to at this stage. I agree......and now I've read Martinez post game comment to the effect of nothing they could do and my opinion of his leadership has plummeted further.
  8. Dude. What. The. F. I've read about a dozen posts from you today talking about the Offense. The Offense has problems. That's understood. But you cannot absolve the Defense from blame by continually pointing the finger at the Offense. I don't get it. It's like you're looking at the whole team and blaming half. It was an equal meltdown. It's not the Offense's fault that the Defense blew up. Again. It's not the Defense's fault that the Offense stopped scoring or moving the ball after the first quarter. Why, when people point out that the Defense sucked today, do you constantly point the finger back at the Offense? At what point does the Defense have to stand up and take their own blame? Read a couple of Tim Beck's quotes from today. They are spot on. The offense started the avalanche with their five million three and outs. We punt out of the end zone and UCLA gets the ball 50 yard line ish. Field position is hugely important. Hugely. And then Martinez.....our four year starter at quarterback gives the quote there wasn't much we could do. Fantastic leadership from a four year starter. The offense......the alleged strength of this years team failed. Epically.
  9. This post could have easily been made during many of the Tom Osborne years in the Big 8.......when we'd lose to Oklahoma then lose a bowl game.
  10. This thought crossed my mind as well. I knew it wasn't going to happen. Martinez' turnovers have always concerned me, but what I saw today was a lack of leadership from him.
  11. *shrug* My thoughts on Taylor are well-documented. I'm not sold on him being our best option at QB if he isn't going to use his mobility. And the boom. Seriously If were gonna call plays and operate like we did today, I'm serious, I'm not sure Taylor isnt down to 3rd, if not even 4th depending on Stanton's ability, on the depth chart. Really really disturbing, and that's not on Taylor whatsoever. Now if his running ability is hampered by some sort of injury as speculated, then why is he in the game. that's a needed dimension of his arsenal. We learned that lesson in 2010. His best skill neutralized before the snap? Aint gonna work. Agree. TM looks hurt. Without his speed, he is not the best option at QB. I agree as well.
  12. Progressing past our own 30 yard line would have been helpful today.
  13. Martinez' leadership is what I'm struggling with. Once our offense stalls, it's done. Our take charge leader on offense is Enunwa, but since he isn't the quarterback, it's not as helpful.
  14. This is not true. Football is a game of field position......a great example of this is UCLA's opportunity to kick that field goal before halftime. Our offense consistently gave UCLA the ball at midfield and said good luck to the defense.
  15. It's unfortunate that this question would need to be posed for a four year starter at quarterback, but Martinez has a history of turnovers and the way our offense stalls, I question his leadership. I'm ready to see Armstrong.
  16. You can't expect a defense to stop an offense that is given the ball at midfield as much as we gave it to UCLA there.
  17. We're going to win far more than 5 games, so yes. It's fine to question where we are and where we're going as a program, but any questioning of whether we're better off than we were under Callahan is barely better than trolling. It's legitimate and not trolling. But better than Callahan is merely a bad comparison. The question needs to be; are we where we want to be. The answer is clearly NO. I've been a Bo supporter until today but no more. I've wanted desperately to avoid the disruption of another HC and staff change but I don't care any longer. I am not happy or satisfied with nine wins over cupcakes and getting our asses handed to us by any half capable team. sh#ts gotta change. No, I am not trolling. I'm 100% serious. After three weeks of that season, and three weeks of this season, I don't really see a whole lot of difference. They were 2-1 and 2013 is 2-1. They lost an uber-hyped home game to a Pac 12 team from Los Angeles that was supposed to be the "comeback to prominence" game. Hard to say if this squad implodes like that one did.... but they will end up with more than 5 wins solely because the schedule is much, much softer than '07 was. I mean, the whole point of dumping Callahan was to dump Cosgrove, right? Well, after 2700 yards given up in the last five games, can you really tell me than Cosgrove was worse? An honest analysis shows no meaningful difference between Cosgrove and the NU defense the past two years. This loss was not on the defense. The offense consistently gave UCLA the ball at midfield.
  18. Martinez is not a leader. When our offense stalls, it's toast. It happened that way against Wyoming and it happened that way today. 21 and done. It will be interesting to see the average starting field position for each team. UCLA won the field position battle. At this point in the season, our offense is nothing to write home about.
  19. I am not overlooking your prediction of a nice win in this game, but I think it's a stretch to say where we are as a program is not pretty. We had one season.....and yes, I understand it was just last season......but we had one season of defensive issues. I think based on Pelini's history, including his first four full seasons as our head coach, we need not be worried the sky is falling. 2011 we also got our asses handed to us. I seem to recall 9 wins....... we also had beatdowns. 9 wins shouldn't be the standard. And thankfully neither are losing seasons and missed bowl games. Pelini has us going very much in the right direction.

I think based on Pelini's history, including his first four full seasons as our head coach, we need not be worried the sky is falling. Oh trust me, the sky is nowhere close to falling. But we're also nowhere close to where we want to be, and with a loss on Saturday, we won't even be close to trending in that direction. I do think Bo is the guy for the job. But speaking in terms of national perception (and perception IS reality) we are not in a pretty place. As a seasoned Husker fan, I learned a few decades ago not to be concerned about national perception. We win without it and have for many (many) years.
  22. I'm still not quite sure how it can be said Pelini is in over his head with what he has accomplished. I think "in over his head" is a term we throw around loosely, but doesn't have a specific meaning to it.
