  1. I saw on another site that Bo will be the head coach at Youngstown State. Glad he could find new work...doesn't that decrease our buyout too if he finds another job?
  2. Maybe someone else is throwing money at him to go elsewhere. "Resources are not the question here at Nebraska" - Eichorst "Not everyone wants to coach at Nebraska"- StPaulHusker Corvallis or Lincoln? Yeah, I see your point. WTF? How do you know he is set to ultimately stay in Corvallis? He is from California. Maybe he is waiting to see if something happens that direction. Maybe his family doesn't want to move to the Midwest. maybe he is going to try to become the OC or HC at OSU. C'mon. You are exactly right. It's mind-boggling how unrealistic some of our fans are right now. They honestly feel that NU can get whoever we want on our coaching staff. That's now how things work. Look at Riley...he turned down a good USC program on multiple occasions, and it was a personal decision. If Brennan doesn't want to come here, that's his decision. This is the time to upgrade the staff. It is not unrealistic to expect Coach Riley to look for his best options, particularly if one was already on his staff. How do you know he didn't try and Brennan simply doesn't want to move? If he's tweeting that he's got kids in jr high sports, maybe he's decided now is not the time. I have kids now that would not want to relocate, but 5 years ago we might have for our jobs.

  4. Now, I liked Bo. I don't think there is any doubt about that. And I have made it pretty clear I'm skeptical about the hire, but let's not go crazy. If he's going to fail, let him do it on the field. But give the guy a god damned chance. We might not be super excited about the assistant hires, or his hire in general. But I have a feeling this guy knows what he can do with this staff. That should be worth something. Good post. It seems there are many Husker fans ready to crucify Riley before he's even coached his first game as the NU head coach. I think there are a lot of Bo-lievers out there (not all) trying to get out their frustrations on Riley for Bo's termination. Which is insane! You can believe Bo got a raw deal and get behind the new guy. It's not like Mike is at fault for Bo being fired. Mike is not at fault for Bo being fired, however I find it quixotic of the Bo hating fans and the Ginger saying, give him a chance, but who also said Bo should be fired based on his lack of wins in games of "substance" or that he wasn't moving the program forward. I'm open minded enough to give Mike a chance right up to the point where one of two things happen. 1. He has a losing season 2. he loses two games of substance by more than 28 points and posts a record of less than 9 wins Simple isn't it? emotions should play a part in this I think for most Husker fans, the standards you are setting would start in year 3. Anytime there is a transition, it will take time for the new coach to raise the results from the prior coach. If Riley wins 7 or 8 games in his first or 2nd season, but wins a conference title in his 3rd, I'm ok with that. I would not be ok if he goes 7 years like Pelini and does not win a championship. You fired BO with 7 9 win seasons why would you lower the bar for the next coach Last I checked I'm not SE and did not fire Bo. But regardless...my expectations are that MR will have the team playing better than Bo by his 3rd season. If it happens before then, I will be pleasantly surprised.

  6. I think almost all fans gave Bo 3 or 4 years to produce...as would any fan for a new coach. It will take a new coach time to get his types of players in the program, and his teachings instilled in the team. If there are some on here that expect a dramatic turnaround in the first 2 years, they are not being realistic.

  8. Despite OSU's beating of Wisconsin, they (and the Big Ten) will be left out of the Playoff. FSU is going to win, and the top 4 will stay the same (though I think Oregon will claim the #1 seed).
  9. I think it's somewhere in the middle. We certainly have the talent to beat Wisconsin, our we simply didn't have the right coaching/game plan. Now there is no doubt in my mind that OSU has far superior talent to all Big Ten teams. I don't think it's even that close. We would have to play an A+ game, and they would have to play a C or D game for us to come out on top.
  10. I would not panic. Riley has 10 or more positions to fill...I would expect him to hire a few that he is already comfortable with. I would prefer that he try to get a new OC and DC. From what I've read about Bray and the special teams coach, those are both great additions for us.
  11. Good point. We didn't look good against any decent teams. OSU easily beat MSU and is killing Wisconsin, which both beat us easily. OSU's talent is far superior to ours (and the rest of the conference), but MSU and Wisconsin's I don't believe is...and that's where the failure in coaching comes into play.
  12. Well, TCU's sole lose was to a top 6 Baylor team. OSU's was to Va Tech. Plus, I think TCU has more quality wins. I don't see OSU jumping them. FSU has to lose.
  13. Well, if Florida State wins and remains undefeated, I can't imagine them not making the top 4. So would OSU have to take over TCU? Alabama and Oregon aren't going anywhere.
  14. Holy crap. 38-0 right now....OSU could beat Wiscy more than Wiscy beat us in 2012.
  15. Lol...Good point. I was at that game in 2012. We at least made it somewhat interesting for the 1st half advertisers. Wisconsin fans I've found to be some of the most annoying, whether you are talking football or basketball. They go to other forums and talk a bunch of smack, yet have not major national titles to show for it.
  16. I have to admit I'm enjoying watching the Badger meltdown right now. I think they felt they were going to roll right over OSU, and its quite the contrary.
  17. A major difference in comparing Stoops to Pelini....Stoops took his team to 9 BCS bowls, one four of those, including the national title. I don't think anybody would be complaining if Pelini had won a national title in his 7 years.
  18. Does anyone have any answers on this? In my opinion, we need a good structure in place for our staff to succeed, and that might include some new assignments.
  19. Perhaps he's bored of having a team that wins their conference every year and needs a challenge????
  20. If you were Frost, would you take the Nebraska OC job tomorrow (assuming it is available to him) when it looking like your Ducks will be heading in to the first ever college football finals with a 50:50 shot at getting in the championship game (or better yet winning the whole thing)? I am not saying it would be enough for him not to take the job, but would it give you pause to take it until after your final game (playoff game or championship)? I agree...he has an opportunity within a month or so to win his first championship ring as a coach. I don't see the incentive for him to leave unless its to become a HC somewhere. Also, just a general question...Frost is running an up-tempo pass heavy offense. It definitely is fun to watch and scores a lot of points. Wisconsin also scores a lot of points, with a run-heavy attack. NU has traditionally focused on the run. Would you prefer to model Oregon's system or Wisconsins?
  21. I wouldn't call what we've had the past few years under Pelini hard-nosed defense. I think the most telling comparison between Riley and Pelini is their 2012 results against Wisconsin. Riley's team gave up 7 points to Wisconsin, and Pelini's gave up 10 x that amount. This doesn't mean everything about Riley is perfect and everything about Pelini was terrible, but to suggest you had hope for a hard-nosed defense with Pelini and no longer have that doesn't make sense to me.
  22. So I have a question for some of the staffing gurus on here from other programs. Taking out names, is the structure of the staff that we currently have common at most other schools? Meaning, if we have/had a head coach and 10 assistant coaches under Pelini, is this what others schools often do? Do other schools have a chief recruiter that doesn't really coach as much as focus on recruiting and player development? And do any schools have a special teams coordinator at the same level as the OC and DC? With SE's ability to put whatever funds are needed out there, I'm thinking we may not only pay more for the assistants in the structure Pelini had, but we may also grow that structure to include one or two additional roles. Thoughts?
  23. SE has made a very good impression this week with the way he approached this. Just think....last Friday we had just finished watching the Iowa game, and nobody had a clue that SE would have the guts to terminate a 9-win coach that lost all the big games. And now here we are a week later, talking about a new head coach, who his staff will be, and when he will start recruiting. I can't tell you how much my mood has changed about the Husker program. I felt hopeless toward the end of this season, and now I have great hope. Riley will need to produce on the field to keep that going, but I'll take hope over hopelessness for now.
  24. Link? Opinion. I know you are familiar with Frost and are a huge Ducks fan, have you heard much? I wouldn't expect us to hear anything about him till after tomorrow night regardless. The only thing I've heard and this is from my buddy who grew up in Oregon moved to Nebraska and last year moved back to Oregon. He says he's well connected up there and told me that Riley and Frost have a pretty good relationship. Thinks that Frost will be at Nebraska by seasons end. Didn't say if that was after CCG or after playoffs. He was real adamant about it. Nothing too "insider-ee" though. Most people don't have true insider info. Thanks for your thoughts, I hope we get Scott here sometime. If I had to wager a guess, and taking into consideration what I've read on here so far about Riley, Frost may not be contacted until after the playoffs, Oregon makes it, just out of respect for Frost and Oregon. Yup. I'm also thankful. Really hoping the Ducks can get their 1st national championship. I am doubtful Frost would want to make a lateral move to be OC for Nebraska. For his own career development, he would be better served going out and finding a HC gig at a smaller school, rather than coming here under Riley and hoping that Riley will retire after 4 or 5 seasons.
