  1. Iowa because of location. Wisconsin because they look to be our toughest competition.
  2. Let's address this. Horrendous special teams: Over Bo's tenure, we're actually one of the better special teams units overall (see phil steele's data). We've just struggled in the punt game the last 2 years. The other areas were at least above average in 2012-2013). Penalties: Last year was our least amount of penalties since 2007. We finished 82nd in penalty yardage, 5 spots behind MSU. Turnovers: I'll give you that. It's the defining stat of Bo's tenure. What are we good at? We'll stick with on the field stuff. The pass defense his entire tenure has been good to excellent. Defense was trending up last year (bad start). They played well against in the last 1/3 of the season. On offense, we can actually run the ball on good teams, something we hadn't done since like 2001. We've played well in close games too. His "vision" is simple. Run the ball, play good defense. Fix the turnovers (which is causing the blowouts) and I think we'll make a jump. That's the kicker. Everyone's vision is to run the ball, play good defense, and not turn the ball over. I agree that our secondary is usually fundamentally sound, but the past few years have not been in the same stratosphere as 2009 and 2010. The entire secondary is a toss up this year. I am bigger than our most experienced corner and I do not like that. Josh Mitchell is a decent player at best. Ross Els is still our special teams coach so I don't see us improving there. If we do improve by a large margin this year it is a serious indictment on the staff. Why the hell was there no effort there last year? Kicking game is a mystery as well. I expect to lose one game simply because the other team is more talented. One game because of quarterback play. One game because of turnovers. One game because we were out coached, or because of special teams (Iowa last year). Most consider me a hater but there are lots of question marks and not many reasons to believe that things will jut click this year.
  3. Sure there is. Is there a single person on staff that can challenge Bo's expertise? Maybe Brown, but he was a holdover. Our two coordinators are still "swimming in it," and got a huge pay raise thanks to Bo. They can't tell him nothin. We got rid of Watson because Bo didn't like his offense. The only other person that has challenged Bo was his big brother, and we all know the story there. Marrow demanded a full-time job. Bo said no. Marrow leaves and takes recruits. He thought Ekeler was a distraction so he's not here anymore. Marvin Sanders was another experienced guy, but he's gone. Bo has dictator-level control of the program. I'm sorry, how does any of that second paragraph equate to Bo hiring "yes-men"? Is Bo not supposed to have a vision for the team? An offensive philosophy? A defensive philosophy? Again, how do you know that the current coaching staff doesn't challenge Bo's expertise? Well Bo isn't an offensive guy so I think hamstringing Watson was counterproductive and a waste of three years. If they challenge Bo often, and provide valuable counsel, that is great. If that were the case you would think we would have seen some sort of measurable improvement by now. I call guys like papuchis and els yes men because there is not a single good argument you can make that says they are deserving of their positions. We have the "tightest staff in the country." These guys aren't here because they are experienced, qualified coaches. They can't teach Bo anything about football that he does not already know. Look at each of their resumes. Not overly impressive. As far as his "vision" goes, after 6 years I don't think he even has a clue what that is. We have horrendous special teams, commit penalties, turn the ball over, BUT were really good at....? What exactly? We may not have solid quarterback play but you can count on Nebraska have 2 mid to late round NFL draft picks per year.

  5. -Hiring a staff of inexperienced, under-qualified yes men. -Saying/doing very dumb things. -Bunch of fairweather fvcking fans, kiss my ass on the way out -To Tommie Frazier: We dont need him -If they want to fire me, fire me. -What the hell kind of a question is that -Texas a&m 2010 -carries a CAT out of the tunnel walk. talk about a hail mary rebranding attempt -freaking out on the local media if they write anything other than a fluff piece the list goes on All of this while he wins nothing of substance, gets paid $3 million a year, and looks for other coaching jobs.
  6. How many QB's had Gill coached before he was hired as QB coach here? Not sure but TO had coached quite a few.
  7. You can thank Shawn Watson and his offense for those records. He is the guy that oversaw Ganz's development and had 10+ years coaching the position. He seems to be doing a good job at Louisville. See what happens when an experienced coach gets some talent to work with at QB? Tell me, Ganz was supposed to be leaving wasn't he? Did he not get any job offers or what was the deal there?
  8. I am a firm believer that Sterup should have started all of last season along with Sirles. We have had plenty of chances to give young players more in-game experience, but instead our staff chooses to play Mark Pelini and Andrew Rodriguez, who never improved in his 4 years. Our interior unit did play together a lot last year, but the center position is still a question mark. Mark Pelini is 5'10 280 and is our most experienced option. I would prefer a guy like Reeves, Thurston or Price being thrown into the fire simply because they have more athletic ability. Pelini got lots of PT last year, so you know he is going to get a lot this year. Don't get me wrong, he is an over achiever and the type of guy you want to have on your team. However, it is impossible to have a dominant oline with him as a starter. I like all of the options we have across the board but Beck does not seem to be fully invested in a run-heavy, power offense, which I think most closely matches our personnel. 1 - Cotton, Pelini and Moudy did play together a lot in the second half of the season 2 - Your last comment is so far off base as to not be in the stadium anymore. If you read my post you will notice that I said our interior line played a lot together last season. As far as my last comment goes, perhaps I chose some poor wording. Beck says we run a "multiple" offense, whatever that is. Call it what you want, but I believe we lack a true identity on offense. Jack of all trades but masters of nothing. Beck seems like he's still swimming in it to me.
  9. WE DO NOT HAVE A SINGLE PERSON ON STAFF THAT KNOWS HOW TO COACH A QUARTERBACK. Not our head coach, not our OC, there is not a position coach. We have Joe Ganz, who stays out until bar close before an 11 a.m. game. To the kool-aid drinker that referenced the 90s QB's, they had TO and Turner Gill to lead them. I feel bad for Tommy because he is not being put in a position to succeed. There is a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He needs to be led by someone who has been there, done that, and knows how to lead a team. The QB position is so much more than mechanics and understanding the offense. The fact that we do not have someone on staff with significant experience in this area is baffling to me.

  11. Just further proof that no one respects us nationally, nor should they. It's what you get for pulling in "ok" recruiting classes, having one famous player in the NFL, not winning a conference championship/BCS game in 15 years. Our biggest media stories of the year were the tape release and the Iowa meltdown. The only people saying we are serious threat next year live in Nebraska.
  12. Is "that guy" just super pessimistic? Do you agree with anything he says? I have been called a hater, not a real Husker fan, etc. Just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences.
  13. Who is "that guy" among your group of friends?
  14. So, you don't really have ALL my state tourney info??? Thanks for the Class A info. Ahh yes I suppose you are correct. Class A only, and I have seen Elkhorn South play once. Very well-coached team, great ball movement, plenty of shooters. Should finish the year undefeated.
  15. I will respectfully beg to differ on this. I only know of maybe a couple class A schools that actually play defense. However, I will say that it more depends on the school rather than the class in which they play to determine who plays D. I'm a little biased here, but I have yet to see a team in the state that plays as good of man to man defense as Falls City High. They're a little undersized, but they have the athleticism to play against bigger bodies. They held Lincoln Christian as a team to 36 and Logan Power, who had been averaging 23 ppg, to 11. Knock on Class A if you want, but come on. I am sure you also think that no one in the NBA plays D either, right? FWIW, Central is a phenomenal defensive team, as is Omaha South, and traditionally Prep has played great D as well.
  16. I have ALL your state tourney info. I am from Omaha, so its Class A or bust for me. It's a toss up between Central, Benson and South in my opinion. Central: It's Central. They have Tre'Shawn Thurman, who I believe is the state's top player. 6'6 guard forward who can do it all and jump out of the gym. Never bet against Coach Behrens in March. South: James Dumes is a 6'4 uber athletic wing, he was the guy who had the Sportscenter Top 10 No. 1 dunk last year. They also have Kevin Harkins, a 6'7 bruiser in the post. They will be no.1 next year, LOTS of young talent. Benson: Khyri Thomas, 6'5 do-it-all FAST guard, multiple D1 offers. Thik Bol, 6'9 shot blocker guarding the post, Tyree Peters, 6'6 wing. Good guard play as usual. Probably had the best regular season. Other players to watch: Tyler Hagedorn at Norfolk, big 6'8 white dude. Malik Hluchoweckyj and CJ Johnson at Bell West, athletic guard combo. There are others but I haven't seen them. The best first round games I THINK are Omaha South vs Norfolk and Central vs Bell West. Benson has a cakewalk with Lincoln Northeast and Westside vs LSE just does not have as much firepower.
  17. Maybe he can, maybe he can't. All I know is that he is PERCEIVED to be a crazy, angry guy by anyone that does not follow Nebraska football closely. That is where I have a problem. This team is all we have and we deserved to be represented by someone that who is respected by the masses. It really is not that much to ask. For me, it is not what you do, it is how you do it. Bo is doing a decent job and I think he is good man. He graduates his players and they have his back, but what makes the headlines? Texas A&M 2010, audio tape, Iowa game, supposedly lobbying for other jobs. Is it a giant conspiracy to keep Nebraska down or do Bo's actions provide the media with ammunition? Do you think Mandel would have tweeted that Bo has searched for other jobs if he did not think the rumors and legs? If he does win something, he is gone. We are married to him right now because we are too afraid to ask for a divorce. There is no one else that is qualified enough to come here, and that is the only reason he remains our coach. "If they want to fire me, they can fire me." Remember that? When Bo finally does win the big game what is going to happen? He will get job offers. He will get offers to coach at a place that is easy to recruit to, and he will be offered more money, and he will accept the job. Why would he stay at a place that has a vocal population that tries to sabotage him? Have you ever heard him say "I love Nebraska, I want to finish my career here"? No. That is because he does not love Nebraska, he thinks we are a bunch of entitled fans that have too high of expectations. I do not blame him for thinking that, but its the reality of the situation.
  18. No. He's been the QB coach since he was promoted to OC. Looks like you're right. Beck is our qb coach by title just like Els is our special teams coach by title. Its a technicality. Martinez still had to go elsewhere for mechanics lessons.
  19. Please, explain how you come to this conclusion. I think its extremely premature to say this, since he has not had a "true QB" to work with. I think between Beck, Calhoun and Ganz, they formed Taylor into a damn good QB, since after all he is a converted WR! Also, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Beck our QBs coach? Qb coach was added to his title this season. And to the guy that posted that list of schools, do some research on the HC's and OC's backgrounds. I can already pick out a few that have coaches with QB backgrounds. Oregon, USC, Ohio State, a&m, Louisville
  20. It helps. Consistent QB play is crucial in winning championships. There is no arguing against it. This obviously does not tell the whole story, but as an example look at FSU this year. Jimbo Fisher has been coaching QB's for 20 years. Malzahn is a QB guy. Dr. Tom hired Gill, his best QB he had ever had at the time, to help develop QB's. Urban Meyer is a QB guy. I know there are plenty of counter arguments to this, but that does not mean that we would not benefit having the insight of a REAL successful former QB, or QB coach on staff. I mean, come on. We can do better than Ron.
  21. I think that Tommy and Johnny have the potential to be very good. That being said, who is going to guide them to greatness? Do you believe that we have some people on staff that are capable of developing a championship/NFL QB? Tim Beck is not a quarterbacks coach. RK3 is going to be a GA next year. No one on staff has directly overseen the development of a big time QB. Taylor was great and he put up some very impressive numbers, rewrote the record book, but we all know what his career was missing. Ron worked hard, paid his dues and got his much-deserved chance last year.Tommy still beat him for the starting spot, though. So now Ron is going to be coaching the guy whom he could not beat out? I just do not get what Kellogg could teach Armstrong. How do we develop a championship QB if no one on staff has ever coached one or been one? It's a team game blah blah blah but quarterback is the most important position. gonna be a long offseason
  22. What do you think our record will be? At the end of next season, what would you consider to be acceptable? What would be unacceptable? The last question is the most important for me. I predict four losses, which I consider unacceptable. BCS bowl, conference championship or bust. I do not think we will get consistent quarterback play down the stretch, which is needed from any elite team. We do not have a quarterback coach on staff so I expect the same kind of hot/cold kind of performances. I think the defense will improve, but special teams, QB play, and some sort of significant injury will hold us back. What say you?
  23. A 13-year-old who was born and raised in Nebraska was not even alive the last time the Huskers won a conference championship. Past 10 years: Nebraska is 94-49, zero conference championships, zero BCS games. Iowa is 86-53, one BCS game win ('09), one shared conference championship. They also went to the Orange Bowl in '02 and won the Big 10. Wisconsin is 94-37. 3 conference championships, 3 Rose Bowl appearances. Wisconsin is a stronger program than Nebraska right now. There is no doubt about it. As for Iowa, it is not so clear. We have a higher winning percentage, but they won a BCS bowl game more recently and they won the last head-to-head match up. We are on the same plane as Iowa right now, in my opinion. This is where I have an issue. Over the past ten seasons we have slowly slipped off of the national scene. We are no longer associated with programs such as Ohio St, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, etc. Our biggest stories all season involved two scenarios in which our head coach was made to look like a total ass (audio leak, Iowa game). My brother is about to graduate high school and he does not even remember the Eric Crouch days. We are slipping further into the abyss.
