  1. Not necessarily. As hard as it is to discuss, there is actually a value placed on a human life, and all lives count as the same value. It is necessary equation used in a lot of areas we don't think about, from insurance policies to hazard pay. A human life is currently valued at 10 million dollars. That's the brutal variable used to decide if the economic loss outweighs the loss of life. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/15/835571843/episode-991-lives-vs-the-economy#:~:text=Economists say each human life is worth about %2410 million dollars.
  2. But that's where the masks and face shields come into play. Between negative Friday tests and masks and faceshields, I would think that football field would be about the safest place in the city for a kid to be outside of his/her own apartment in isolation.
  3. Feel like I need to defend myself a bit. I am a business owner in Lincoln and we started masking up all day every day in Mid March. I am a staunch mask supporter.. In fact, I so much so that I truly think football could be played safely with the masks, plastic shields and negative Friday tests to walk onto the field.
  4. A lot of these questions are assuming things change even by next fall, which, if we have learned anything, is far from a sure thing.
  5. I am not convinced yet that there won't be football for some. Maybe wishful thinking but hoping there are still some rational people in places of leadership. If we can go maskless to a grocery store, seems like there should be a way to test and mask players up to play an outdoor sport for the sake of the athletes that have so much invested into doing so. I think harder to imagine allowing fans in the stands. But my kids are playing softball and basketball in Nebraska currently, seems a bit silly to indicate there is absolutely no way kids can play football too. Seems like the University has tried pretty hard to keep the athletes in a position they could make a go playing the game it as long as the rest of the details work out. I guess I think it looks like first and foremost they are trying to figure out if the boys can play safely. From there they are looking at how to generate revenue if they play. Remains to be seen I guess, but I don't see NU throwing in the towel yet.
  6. I am not sure why you declare this as fact. You absolutely CAN have herd immunity without a vaccine, you just risk a lot more illness and death going about it that way. Virology 101
  7. And while they are at it, all of these recruits can just get off your lawn!
  8. You're right, my bad. Covid is ruining my brain. It was men's B-ball that got shafted by no concessions, correct? I mean, I realize they played most of the season, but the post season was just cancelled and seniors told good luck in the NBA?
  9. They didn't for the baseball teams this past spring. That would really hose over incoming classes, no spots for incoming freshmen if rosters are full. I supposed you could allow for increased roster sizes but there would still be less playing opportunity, less travel opportunity, etc and seems like it would take 5-6 years for it to even begin to work itself back to normal.
  10. Capitalist society, writer guy. Welcome to it.
  11. I have seen this concept mentioned a few times and I am seriously trying to understand where the sentiment comes from. What am I missing? Why would anybody care about a video game simulated game? Especially when compared to an actual game with actual players? I am just at a loss because, for instance, the spring game was completely stupid.. I understand why they did it but my interest in it and take away from it amounted to absolutely nothing. If they could have played a spring game, ya, it still wouldn't have meant anything, but I follow Husker sports because I like to watch our athletes on the field, so even that would have been 100 times more interesting for me. So if given the option of watching the boys play Purdue or letting code dictate that game, it's a no brainer for me.
  12. It's sad that this is about the best news I've heard since early March.
  13. It's a weird deal though, right, that elementary/high schools are looking like they WILL be hosting in person classes in some capacity? The reasoning predominantly being that younger kids less effected with even some hints they may not even vector it (which, admittedly goes against everything I know about virology.) So magically a kid rolls from 17-18 and all of the sudden can't be anywhere near a campus. Nothing makes sense anymore.
  14. Sad that that was still our best option even for last season. If he becomes the monster center they think he can be, we won't let you continue to harbor this rage.
  15. Except it's only one toxic skittle.. And I am comfortable eating one if the reward on the flip side is worth it.
  16. Slow down the hype, guys. This guy is only going to be the first pick in the draft so lets not get ahead of ourselves for crying out loud.
  17. The biggest remaining question I see that will need answered is, where do we put the Sears Trophy?
  18. It's a cool looking train, though.
  19. But is he any good at linebackering and does he love the color red?
  20. Something about this entire situation stinks. Most of the back and forth on the topic revolves around the fact that the team/program/fans need the stink to be coming from the JD side or it doesn't bode well us.
  21. I'll have to because he's going to be wearing red in the pic.
  22. Not nearly as much if the replacement receivers outproduce the departing one. Easy sell as a coach that he left for greener pastures and so new guys stepped up and became all conference. Not saying it will happen, just saying the sky isn't falling. If JD wants out that badly, he needs to do him. The kahonas on the NU side and the JD side of this ordeal are all out on the table, better bring the big ones....
