  1. Fans greatly over estimate the coaching "development" of players. The reality is that McGuire inherited a WR that is completely devoid of talent. The players lack size, speed, and the ability to generate separation. It's going to take the team a few seasons to fix the issues.
  2. The coaching staff had to make the choice they made. Scott Frost also figured out that with the line quality and his inability to recruit and develop receivers, the only way to move the ball was to run the QB. Our staff is smart - they quickly realized this. With very little talent at receiver and a running back room that is mostly average, they got the best dual-threat they could get from the portal and they're going to try and win with his skillset. I agree with OP - the staff wants to develop a certain pro-style foundation which I understand. However it's evident that this just isn't Jeff Sims skillset. They probably need to limit the receiver route trees, simplify the RPO reads, and roll the pocket a bit more. I know this might run counter to the developmental process for the physical, pro-style offense they want to run. But it's pretty obvious that Sims doesn't see the field (and the OL doesn't protect) well enough to be a pocket passer. We're simply going to have to Iowa our way to 6 wins - grind out games, punt, let the defense keep us in games. Try to be risk averse on offense and see what happens.
  3. The team is pretty young and played hard football last night, especially on defense. Compared to this time last season, it is night and day how much better they are. The defense should keep Nebraska in most games. The problem Matt Rhule and Nebraska football faces at the moment is they're trying to build a foundation without a QB on the roster. They also have very little talent on offense. To answer your question - Rhule is probably here in year 4. Even though I can see a world where the new divisionless B1G eats Nebraska up and the QB of the future - currently at Bellevue West - doesn't develop fast enough to get Nebraska on the right track in years 2-4. It's pretty clear that Jeff Sims doesn't see the field, so trying to make him work in year 2 is not a wise move. Develop the guy of the future next season - use Sims skillset as a runner to find 6 wins on the schedule. Don't make him a pocket passer.
  4. Not a fair comparison, Martinez was a much, much better thrower. What we saw last night was a guy who didn't see the field. Martinez was an average passer, what we saw last night was a passing game that was a detriment to the team. Throws more than 3 yards past the line of scrimmage had a 30% chance of being intercepted. It was so bad you have to wonder if they need to greatly simplify the offense and route trees ran by the receivers.
  5. Yeah, but the issue is that with proper game management the situation for a comedy of errors to lose the game never arrives. Instead of trying to win the game given to him 10-3, Satterfield got the ball with 9 minutes left and called two passes with a QB who can't see the field. Why try to win the game 17-3 instead of taking the win Minnesota is handing to you? Just play complimentary football and use timeouts properly and they win. Instead of winning like Iowa/Minnesota/Wisconsin, he wanted to go for the dagger which was completely unnecessary.
  6. I agree. The scary issue is that - How do you build towards a future when the passing game is this abysmal? It's one thing to be bad, which the passing game was, but it's another thing where each passing attempt is a calamity waiting to unfold. Sims was pretty close to throwing 1 or 2 more interceptions. It was that bad. Thing is, Haarberg or Purdy will have to play this season and they are worse. This team is going to basically field the 2022 Iowa offense but with turnovers and a Line that is terrible and commits penalties.
  7. I feel like it's a bit of Nebraska spinning in circles. Defensive improvement, but offensive regression. Strange play calling choices along with penalties costing us points. Hopefully we see improvement, but teams are going to stack the box and make Sims throw. It's going to be a long season if he doesn't improve rapidly.
  8. Nebraska is probably slightly better defensively than 2022 which is good. Minnesota has good receivers, probably the best in the B1G West and we took away the running game completely. They'll keep us in games. On offense, the team is signifactly worse. With no Palmer to bail them out and a lack of other receivers and a QB that seems to struggle in the passing game, Nebraska will like be a less dynamic and more turnover prone offense than 2022. It's hard to overstate how bad the offense was tonight, especially the pass game. It was brutal outside of the broken play. The run game at RB is below average, and the only reliable offense is QB runs. We're essentially the 2021 AMart offense but much worse.
  9. It looks pretty rough for sure. Nebraska runs the QB because it's the only way they can move the ball. The RBs aren't particularly good or talented, and the line in front of them is abysmal at both run and pass blocking that also tends to get penalized frequently. We also lack talent and size at receiver, so the passing game is just not there. The running game with the RBs isn't there. That leaves one reliable option... which is bound to cause an injury. The defense looked pretty good today though! Minnesota isn't good on offense, but frankly they're about the same as other B1G West teams. They'll keep Nebraska in games, so Nebraska in 2023 will resemble a version of Nebraska in 2022, just with more turnovers and a worse offense.
  10. They don't have a choice. The line isn't good enough to open up runs for the RBs and the receivers are bad. The only way they can move the ball is by him running. Purdy is thing to get playing time this season.
  11. In this particular case, nothing was stopping Republicans from instituting a price cap outside of breaking Senate "decorum". If they wanted to cap insulin prices, they couldve done it then and there. They also could've voted against the IRA to take a stand against the overall legislation at the same time.
  12. It's worth noting that Republican opposition is why private insulin price caps were stripped from the IRA. Republicans could've voted for that provision to be included in the IRA but vote against the IRA overall, effectively endorsing a policy that benefits thousands of Americans while simultaneously opposing a bill by the opposition party. They chose not to do that.
  13. Isn't the game on Fox? For the prediction, I'm thinking Minnesota by 10-14. 24-14 or 31-17. I see Nebraska losing the turnover battle and it's hard to see how they muster the offense to win.
  14. I need to get in on the grift. Trump voters will believe literally anything even after you tell them it's all a ruse.
  15. Minnesota: 27 Nebraska: 17 Rushing: 140 Passing: 185
  16. I can't express to you enough how much I don't care if President Biden committed crimes. If he did - charge him and lock him up. What I do care about are American voters like yourself who were so easily grifted into voting for Trump twice, because his inevitable downfall was so completely obvious. This is important because, unfortunately, voters like you are 50% of the electorate and its not a good thing if they seemly ignore reality and can't tell OBVIOUS political theater from reality. You do know it's political theater... right? Even Republican members of Congress say so out loud. Because it, again, is OBVIOUS to anybody that isn't eyeball deep into right-wing news, just like it was OBVIOUS where Trump would end up after a lifetime of crime.
  17. Yeah, I mean, it's not like Republicans have openly admitted to not having actual evidence of crimes and not caring if accusations that aren't from an indicted Chinese spy are real. They are super duper serious this time! Look, I get it: it doesn't feel good to be the bad guy who twice voted for this guy But at a certain point you need to stop back and touch some grass and get a dose of reality.
  18. Should we tag @Archy1221 just so he knows that Republicans privately admit that investigating Joe Biden is nothing but political theater they know is all bulls#!t?
  19. It's amazing what Republicans admit to anonymously when they're not trying to appeal to the MAGA horde.
  20. This is so on brand for prominent Republicans that it's simultaneously hilarious and sad. Being secretly gay while pushing policies that are vehemently anti-gay is just... *chefs kiss*
  21. Ramaswamy's grift is so obvious to anybody with more than a dozen functioning neurons that is unsurprisingly that he managed to capture the hearts and minds of the Republican base.
  22. What we all knew back in 2015 is starting to reach its inevitable conclusion. Trump ending his Presidency with a press conference near a dingy sex shop and his mug shot being taken for his numerous crimes was all pretty obvious from the beginning. Congrats to all you Trump voters out there, especially the two-timers, you really are something.
  23. I think Republican primary voters grifted into believing that Democrats cheated him are the reason Trump will win. Stop blaming Democrats for the issues with your party and look yourself in the mirror. I truly hope candidates like Scott can regain their grip on the Republican Party. I disagree with their policy stances but Republicans like him don't seem to want to undermine America.
  24. The fact that this isn't meant ironically says a lot about the GOP base.
