  1. OMG. Is this a troll account? Parody? You cannot be serious with this? The COP/C actually bears responsibility to protect the ENTIRE university community because the University really is bigger than just the football team. They are concerned with the students, faculty, staff, administrators, employees, the entire community! Have you happened to notice that some NFL teams are playing with limited fans in attendance and others are playing to an empty stadium? Do you have the faintest idea why that is? These decisions had to be among the most difficult the COP/C ever made because of the impact, the far-reaching impact (and I am not referring only to the financial ramifications) to the university community and local businesses. The student experience, athlete development, local restaurants/bars...the impact has yet to be fully realized, BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT SAFE.
  2. I, for one, have not spoken to anyone I know from fellow B1G schools who have had any respect for us. Most, however, want us to compete and acknowledge a decent Husker team would be great for the conference. But, nobody cares about playing us. Nobody that I know anyway.
  3. Is does and it is. The conference, acting in the interests of its member institutions and the Student-Athletes postponed the season initially and seems to have come up with a plan that maximizes revenue from the outlets it has (to date) deemed safe to pursue. Mainly TV dollars, which as far as I know fund members athletic departments across the board. Now we get football. But everyone should do their part to slow the spread so that we make it to late October. Letting one member go rogue is absolutely detrimental to the rest of the conference. It is selfish and, frankly, stupid
  4. Are you saying that the conference specifically picked on Nebraska when they canceled the leaguewide non-conference games? That is insanity to even suggest. Notre Dame was going to head to Lambeau to play Wisconsin. PSU had the Hokies on the schedule, OSU had Oregon. Just those three games alone would have been marquee matchups for the TV Networks...but if losing out on Central Michigan, Cincinnati and South Dakota are that troubling to you...
  5. Wisconsin has played OSU 8X since we joined the conference and has 4 more scheduled through 2025. Granted a few of those games were Championship games. But it doesn't seem fair to describe us as a victim. The conference scheduling operates the same for all teams.
  6. Competing outside the conference is the dumbest thing ever discussed. It won't happen, and shouldn't happen.
  7. Sure, there is a chance they have improved, but same goes for the competition. I am assuming the team is in disarray as in the past 4-5 seasons, and more. They need to prove otherwise in my book. For now, I have 2-3 wins as likely, 4 on the far extreme of potential. Any more and they overachieved. The question becomes why? Was it improvement or something else (prevailing conditions)? I will wait and see and the next month of waiting is gonna suck! I'm ready
  8. We could compete in the AAC I bet. In the B1G, we have to play a B1G schedule. We start 0-4 unless we catch all the breaks and face opponents with a Covid-based advantage. I expect 2 wins the rest of the way, maybe 3. Another 5th place West Division season, assuming we make it through a season. The good news is that we have hope and unlike any year before, the one certainty is that this entire fall is uncertain. Look at Houston, Baylor, etc. Games will be "postponed" (really canceled with the conference schedule not allowing any margin for error) and teams will battle injury and illness like never before. So, with a few breaks, almost anyone has a chance at glory this year.
  9. I see 2-3 wins, 4 if we overachieve
  10. Not that home field matters much, but they flipped the Wisconsin game from road to home. I guess when you sue the people who set the schedule, you really should expect them to be upset. I think it is that simple. We can't always be afraid to play tough teams. We used to strap up and play anyone without fear. That is who we need to become again.
  11. Was it because technically he jumped indoors? Helluva an accomplishment regardless, but there are rules.
  12. Well stated, thank you for pointing this out.
  13. Something like that...well, maybe not like how you described it, but the lawsuit is over.
  14. The B1G gating criteria seems much stricter than what I know (which isn't much) about the other conferences. It is quite onerous for sure. Makes me wonder if any team can make it to the season, let alone through the season. But, hope springs eternal. I felt bad watching the NFL last week, but I watched. I worry about the health and safety of all involved.
  15. nope. just a guy that believes that masks are a simple thing that everyone can do that work to slow the spread and if more people wore them, we could have nice things as we work through this. like football or volleyball or kids having their senior prom, etc.
  16. It will if you find yourself near anyone associated with a football program. It slows the spread. But you do you.
  17. If you listen to him, he is referring to a loaded Buckeye team that will be in the CFB Playoff carrying a bigger stick that a team that finished no better than 5th in its division four years in a row. It isn't exactly insightful, it really is just stating a simple fact. Could have come out of anybody's mouth, just happened to be the guy everyone loves to hate. Whatever. We know the truth. Please, wear masks, limit gatherings and social distance and in 5 weeks we can have Husker football!!!
  18. Yup. Television revenue for football. But I actually give a crap about player health and safety, so some thing should be more important that money. When our alumni aren't busy committing crimes and in prison, I actually enjoy watching them succeed in the NFL. But some players who might contract this virus may never get that chance because of it. That's why I defer this decision to the smart people in the room who are looking out for player safety. For the time being, they are still students first (or supposed to be). This is not an easy decision. Just because I am frustrated without Husker football doesn't mean my opinion means anything. I am but it doesn't. I am ultimately not responsible, I am just a fan. I will be a fan when they take the field next time and every time after that.
  19. Agree 100%. But the new kid on the block need not carry the torch. Maybe not the "newest kid" but still new nonetheless. The conference is the richest in the country. Warren is no Delaney for sure, but I don't think for a minute that the botched announcements two months ago were his doing. He was the fall guy. The COP/P has run this conference forever. In case you aren't aware, it was, initially, the "Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives." It is nothing without some recall of the history and tradition and we should have some degree of respect for that. I acknowledge things change, and indeed, the conference has changed many times since the University of Chicago was a member...but the COP/P runs this show. I think the Senate meeting, as stupid as it sounds, was a plea for help in response to the "attempted unionization" (for lack of a better term) by several players seeking to profit from name/likeness, etc. They were seeking antitrust exemption and limitations on coach salaries.
  20. The article you linked adds yet another log to the fire. Is this retaliation for Carter not being able to control his mouth? or is it something different? I really don't understand why Wisconsin hates (or seems to), we give them a great scrimmage every year before they play the Buckeyes.
  21. scrolling through Twitter...I learned that Barry Alvarez chairs the return to competition committee for the Council of Presidents/Chancellors...now, I'm not suggesting that Alvarez has a vendetta against us, but if that is your interpretation of what I am saying, I cannot help that. The COP/C was set to make an announcement and hasn't. So far, that seems to be what we know.
  22. Looks like you mean "no one" not "noone" but thanks for making my point.
  23. We play in a conference, in case you aren't aware. That conference pays us approx $50 million dollars a year. The conference decided it isn't safe to play football - public health reasons. Part of being in the conference is letting the smart people make important decisions and going along with those decisions. There is a pandemic running amuck. My kids' varsity sports are on hold because of a positive test. Family members have tested positive. I want to watch football as much as anyone, but it's stupid to think that we, Nebraska, are going to tip the scales. The B1G doesn't owe us an explanation in this case. It should be patently obvious. But whatever.
