Maybe when you have churches, governments, and citizens actively railing against being a cis gender male we can have a day of recognition.

In a perfect world, sure I'm we would celebrate everyone equally and live happily ever after, but that's not where we live...

I don’t want a day of recognition. I just want everyone to pull their head out of their a$$ and realize we are all equal and deserve to be treated with respect. Amazing that it is spelled out so clearly in the Constitution yet it is a daily chore continuing to detail who all that entails.

Very well written. It is too bad that there are no other days to recognize the struggles of trans folks...

I feel marginalized and excluded. I didn’t see any heterosexual or cisgender days on that laundry list of special days.

    And here’s some:Fire:

As long as we regularly highlight our differences, we will struggle to have true equality. There are special days and awards for everything except for the predominant majority demographics. Is it really amazing that people in the predominant majority groups are sort of fed up? I realize some minority groups have been marginalized but I’m not convinced constantly pointing out every difference is the best way for everyone to be truly treated as equals.

Biden being inclusive somehow alienated Christians. I think your blaming the wrong people here.

I’m not blaming anyone, nor am I defending so called Christians who would take offense at a message of tolerance and inclusion. It’s just at this point I’m more concerned with the effect of the message on the election and I don’t see it gaining anything for Biden and it potentially helps push some the other way.

Yeah, I know in normal times this is not something to take any issue with. But times aren’t normal and I’d rather they were a little more cognizant of how these types of things may impact certain voters. I wouldn’t guess there are too many who could go either way and this is an issue that has a pretty well defined battle line. I just see it as one that gains them nothing but possibly alienates a few more.  I don’t want to placate idiots or haters but I will if it helps keep orange man away. I could be wrong…it’s happened once or twice before :B)

You know Easter is on a different day every year, right, and that Jesus was cool with eunuchs and whores?

The issue for me is not the “issue” itself. WWJD or what should actual Christians do isn’t the issue.

My focus is defeating orange man bad and, imo, this edict doesn’t help that cause. There are hard left and hard right groups that won’t be swayed. But there has to be a rather large group in the middle that can still be influenced. I believe many in that group are not opposed to equal and fair treatment of the LGBTQ community BUT are at the same time tired of having the issue shoved in their face. I’d rather those people vote for Biden than Trump. Let the Rs spew their messages of hate to determine which side people align with. IMO it’s not an issue that requires an opposite message to win the issue. Dems can simply say we support inclusion and let the Rs shoot themselves in the foot.

    Anyhow, that’s my two cents.

Oh no! Some holidays occurred at the same time!

    Anyway...

Yes, a holiday that provided them an opportunity to not alienate more potential voters. I guess the $64,000 question is if it helped gain more than it lost. My bet is it was a net loss.

    Anyway…

  6. How’s everybody’s brackets looking?

I only have 2 possible remaining for the FF (UConn & Purdue) with UConn going all the way. Marquette (pathetic E8 effort btw) and Arizona were my other 2 FF picks.

  7. Well I finished 3 Body Problem and think it was great. I only have one issue with it, it moves along very fast. That could end up being a good thing but it seems they could’ve spent a little more time on character development, nerded out a bit more on the science and delved into the social and political aspects more.  At this point (end of s1 ep8) I find myself wishing there had been more. Hoping the wait for s2 is not too long.

They started doing the proclamations in 2021. This year it just happens to be on Easter.

Fine, and I get that. But be smart about it. Sure it’s a worthy cause but go for the bigger tent approach and don’t throw gas on the fire.

I know the bigots and haters will always find something but there are some in between that don’t need to be needlessly pushed to the other side. Of course my only real concern here is keeping Trump miles away from the WH. TBH I really don’t care about the proclamation other than how it aids or hinders that goal.

Yeah, it's almost like if you do things legally, it's fine.

Yep. All we can ask is that teams/coaches/players abide by the rules on the books. It appears Alabama basketball was within the rules, whereas Michigan football was not.

I guess we can also ask/hope that the rules are made more stringent so that sporting contests can be determined by the players, coaches and preparation rather than by exploiting loopholes in the rules that make intelligence gathering measures a factor.

It's not designated to be on Easter.  It's been on March 31st since 2010.  I never heard about until today but a simple search disproves the notion that it's designated to be on Easter to poke the bear.  It's an international day too.  But MAGA never lets a good froth go unused, Christian-like or not.

Another simple search indicates that this white house proclamation was made on March 29, 2024 and specifically designates March 31, 2024 (Easter Day). Not real sure what 2010 has to do with an issue the Biden WH went out of their way to issue a proclamation for yesterday.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2024/03/29/a-proclamation-on-transgender-day-of-visibility-2024/#:~:text=You are America%2C and my,as Transgender Day of Visibility.

And to be clear, I’m not frothed up over it. I voted for Biden last time and will (shudders) vote for him this time. If they could just get out of their own damn way Trump wouldn’t stand a chance.

And why does this issue need to be confined to one specific day? Shouldn’t treating all people with respect be an everyday deal? I just think it would’ve been more wise to realize what specific day this March 31 is and adjust accordingly.

This type of s#!t is what I don’t like about dems. They can be so tone deaf at times. Great, raise awareness for the trans community, but don’t designate it for one of the holiest days of the year just to poke the bear. Utter stupidity on their part imo.

Well, Creighton losing is obviously as it should be.

But i didn't realize that pretty much locked it up for me.

@Minnesota_husker is second but has the same two teams that I do (UConn and Tennessee).

@JJ Husker is third but only has UConn left.

@RedRedJarvisRedwine is fourth but is out of teams.

@HS_Coach_C is fifth and only has UConn.

@SandhillshuskerW has UConn and NC State.  But he would need NC State to play three more games and average 97 points per game to catch me.

    @skers83 only has UConn.

@The Murphinator has Purdue but is too far back.

I SORT of get, if you just see the protest dorks out there and you go join in...

But...imagine being at f#&%ing Hobby Lobby or Michaels...with a buddy and you are like "Hey, this will just take a minute, I gotta buy some poster board, a stick, some paint and maybe glitter."

And your buddy is like "Oh, does your kid have a project in school?"

And you are like "No, I am protesting the sun" or "I am supporting Hamas" or whatever...

Does it not set in that you are a total dork???

When it sets in that you are a dork should be the second you walk into Michaels or Hobby Lobby with a buddy regardless why you are there   The only times I’ve ever been in those stores is because my wife made me go with her.

Well, the guy did yell "Democracy is dead" and I guess according to one of the replies that are actually Republicans ACTING like Democrats!

I am trying to think what is a bigger loser move.  We can set this up like a test question.

    1.  What makes a person a bigger loser?

    A.  Protesting Israel and being a Pro-Pally Bro

    B.  Pretending to be protesting but really working "undercover" for the other side

    C.  Both

    D. If you don’t have anything better to do than take to the streets to carry a sign or yell at random people, you are a loser that needs to get a life. I don’t care what side of any issue you may be on. Get a frikken hobby and quit being a jackwagon.

  15. If a person has nothing better to do than line up on the street yelling and protesting, well, that person needs to get a life. Too many people are worried about what other people are doing and are not near concerned enough about their own behavior.

This and the Komodo Dragon are my favorites. Dark, rich flavor, but without all the acid you get from Central American & African beans.

Guess I’ll have to try the Komodo Dragon. I did a quick search and didn’t see it available in the K pods but we still have a coffee grinder and that little strainer pod (which has never actually been used yet ). Sam’s Club has the Sumatra in 72 packs and you can usually get it on sale for about $32.

When I retire I’ll get serious about my coffee and get a french press and do it right. The Keurig is just way too convenient and consistent.

  17. Black, thick and straight…..oh wait, wrong thread. :B)

Drink it black most of the time. Starbucks Sumatra dark roast in the Keurig is my go to. Also do some Cafe Bustelo espresso style dark roast.  I have a little frother/hot pot and will occasionally add some heated or frothed milk. Makes it like a latte. If I get it from a coffee place, I like a plain latte, no flavor added with an extra shot or two of espresso. I like to taste and smell the coffee. I don’t like it cold or iced.

Now when my daughter says she is getting coffee, she is talking about some sugared up cold concoction that you wouldn’t even know contained coffee.

Did you read the books? I just finished the first two and they are excellent.

Side note, I simply couldn't get into GoT. Gave up after 4 episodes, nothing about it hooked me and I love sci fi/fantasy.

I have not read the books but I did read about the books and the 3 body problem.  I’m a bit weird, I like reading about physics. I don’t totally understand a lot of it but I find it interesting. But please give GoT another shot. If you like fantasy/sci fi, it’ll have to hook you at some point.

  19. The first season (8 episodes) of 3 Body Problem is out on Netflix. I like it a lot so far. They do a pretty good job of feeding you the info needed as it progresses but it wouldn’t hurt to do a little research first if you have no clue what the 3 body problem is and if you have no clue about the book. It’s a rather odd mix of 50 year old Chinese history, Physics and aliens. Same show runners as GoT and, so far, 3 actors from GoT  (Samwell Tarley, Davos Seaworth and the high sparrow).

I really want to finish it tonight but have an Avs game to watch so it might have to wait one more day. Hopefully they get season 2 out more expeditiously than the GoT seasons.

They certainly could have worked to solve a few problems along the way.  HR2 was the only semi good major bill I can even think of that they worked on

But they don’t have to work on anything or solve any problems because the continued support of their base only requires rage farming. I’d say the problem isn’t the politicians but rather the people that continue to support MAGA. There is no R party separate from MAGA anymore.

  21. How about that one @GSG ? :P

Pens totally dominating the first 30 minutes, Sid with 4 points, up 4-0 and Avs come back and win it 5-4 in OT. I came this close to turning it off.
