  1. Don't get me wrong, this is entertaining and all but, didn't we get the jury verdict about 3 pages ago. I'm not sure I understand the posters who seem to not be satisfied that justice was served in this case. Once again, Zimmerman was tried and found not guilty. He wouldn't have even been tried in the first place if the media and other race baiting special interests had not intervened. There is a whole bunch of speculation about what might've or could've or should've happened and then there are the facts of the case that determined Zimmerman was not guilty. I guess my question is, aside from what is now obvious (that murder 2 should never have been charged in this case) what problems do you folks have with the trial itself. Seems to me the system worked. There was a prosecution, a defense, and a jury. Who here knows more about this case than was presented in court? Sure, Martin doesn't get killed if Zimmerman doesn't follow him and sure if Zimmerman doesn't have a gun Martin doesn't get shot but calling Zimmerman the "aggressor" seems to be applying your own bias in my book. If Martin had every right (which he did) to walk down the street, wearing a hoodie, and calling a complete stranger a crazy ass cracker, then Zimmerman also was well within in his rights to follow Martin down that same street. The sad fact that a person ended up dead does not have to mean that another person was in the wrong. It only means that one of those 2 people unfortunately escalated the situation. We'll never know for sure which one of them but, with all that could be proven in court, it wasn't enough to convince a jury that it was Zimmerman.
  2. I guess I don't get the notion that justice was not served in this case. Sure it's a tragedy that a young man is dead and anothers life has been forever changed but the system worked as well as it could in this situation. Initially authorities did not want to pursue charges. Now we know why; they had no evidence. This case was pushed upon us by the media and other groups who had even less information than the authorities. The only thing these groups had to offer was an agenda and it had little to do with what really happened. Well guess what, Zimmerman was tried and found not guilty. Unless you were there when it happened and have chosen to conceal information that would show Zimmerman's guilt, you look pretty silly still carrying on about how this verdict is wrong or not fair.
  3. Now the feds are supposedly considering civil rights charge. The thought being that Zimmerman "profiled" Martin. Hello? Are we now totally incapable of using common sense observation in an effort to protect ourselves? If there were a white skinhead neo-nazi looking guy sulking around a black neighborhood, wouldn't it just be smart to pay extra attention to him? Edit- I should clarify that I don't think any civil rights charges will or can be brought. Zimmerman was not acting in any official capacity that would allow these types of charges IMO. This is simply more of the media and politicians trying to make this case into something it clearly wasn't.
  4. I can't speak for BRB but his post addresses your socializing once per month issue. That is about all me and the wife can manage. Smoking cigars and playing hold em till 1AM twice per week just ain't happenin for anybody who is married, has kids, and has a job. That crap ends pretty much immediately after you get married and especially after you have kids unless you're a bad parent or don't care if you stay married.
  5. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. None of the arguments previously made to help justify this deal matter now that it has been passed. Silly wabbit, Tricks are for the folks in DC who know so much more than us.
  6. Tara Reid?! Ha, I was channel surfing last night and actually caught the last five minutes of this gem. Feel fortunate that it was no more than that. Man does Tara Reid look rode hard and put away wet. She used to be hot. Now it's like a meth addict with makeup.
  7. Sorry, I know you requested no laughing but.........welcome to married life with kids. Surely somebody warned you about this. The problem is those warnings always come in a joking fashion just prior to when you say your vows. Well, they are no joke and I speak from experience (50 years old, married 28, with a 19 & 13 yr old). Seriously though, it just takes a lot more effort, planning, and money if you really want to hang like you did only 5-10 years ago. It's not bad just different. Actually we've been pretty lucky finding neighbors that we get along with. It makes it way easier to do stuff and hangout when you can walk to their house and when they also have kids of a similar age. If all your neighbors are really not compatible for this, you might seriously want to consider moving to a neighborhood that better matches your demographic.
  8. I got an Atlantic rim job once. IDK, it's probably different.......
  9. Hey, if you've got tickets, a tailgate spot, and booze, I'll be your friend.
  10. Another tough one. Had to go with Glover but not on a straight homer pick. Can't get over the feeling that, with what was going on at SMU those years, Dickerson's performance wasn't aided in some way by their cheating ways. He sure was a dominate running back though.
  11. This is a tough one but I gotta play the homer card. Johnny was just special to watch.
  12. If ya wanna have fun and see some wild poll swings, instead of doing it at the 4 predetermined times, do it after the next loss, particularly after any blowout loss. Half the board will be wondering why he is still here and why it wasn't a done deal 2 years ago. Then The Dude will have some company. Seriously, with our schedule this year, it won't take much to get the faithful to turn on him. Expectations for having a high level of success this season are higher than they have been since his arrival. I think even 2 or 3 losses, especially if any are embarrassing blowouts, will ignite the afterburners on that hot seat.
  13. Sounds to me like your wife is offering you a quiet reprieve to the man cave. Lucky duck!
  14. They really are awesome. It's a go-to recipe around Chez Knapp I'm going to do them again soon when I can follow the salsa recipe to a T. The first time I made a couple substitutions to allow for what I had available. Subbed an orange bell pepper and jalapeno pepper for the poblano. I know that is not ideal but who woulda thought the Safeway on my way home wouldn't have any poblanos (Guess that's why I prefer the King Soopers that isn't on my way home). And the avocado I used was a little over ripe and I doubled up on the cilantro because I thought more would be better. It was still pretty darned good but, I could tell these would be awesome if I had gotten the salsa just right.
  15. I'm not claiming it is right or that's the way it should be but, that it is my take on how they have handled these things. I like that they don't vacillate on dogma and basic principles. I just wish they were as steadfast in doing the right thing when it comes to protecting children. I think they are getting there but I have no idea why it needs to be a slow process. When something is as blatantly wrong as in this issue, I don't understand why it isn't dealt with swiftly and decisively.
  16. Burke- His comments on that subject, while somewhat wrong, were not what I found so distasteful about the little video clip. In fact, I sort of agree that religions, to various extents, do use reward and punishment as a means of control. The Catholic religion, of which I am a member, is probably the most notorious for this tactic. It happens to be one of the things I do not like about it. And, my concept of hell does not necessarily align with Dante's Inferno. The thing I know about hell is that it is an eternity outside of Gods presence. It can be debated if that will involve fiery torment and pain or not but, I digress. My basic problem with this doofus is that purportedly he is a Christian yet the message I got from the video clip is that we simply need to be more human. There are some core, basic principles, that come with being identified as a Christian, the key one being that Christ died for our sins, we are sinful beings, and we are saved by grace through that belief. Then, this joker comes along and basically says "screw all that", what we need is to be more human. Call it my opinion but, that is the last thing we need if we want to subscribe to the Christian faith. And don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less if a person chooses to be Christian or not. But, when a supposed leader in the Christian faith slings this new age, self enlightened horsesh#t, then yeah, I find it to be false teaching and not leading people towards Christ and God.
  17. C'mon guys. Lots of people acting like this comment is way beneath them when we all know better. Landlord didn't threaten the guy or even say he would do something. All he said was he would have a hard time not punching him. That indicates he knows better and wouldn't act on the urge. Hell, I have that exact same thing happen almost everyday in traffic. I don't blame the douchey priest guy for his opinions or the way he feels. The problem is he is supposedly a Christian church leader and his words are far from fulfilling that role. It's somewhat understandable that his comments would draw the ire of Christians who are tired of wishy washy bad examples of their faith.
  18. Now You See Me; enjoyed it, not great but definitely not bad either. Liked the whole concept of the movie but felt a bit betrayed by the ending. Star Trek Into Darkness; Loved it. Have always been into sci fi and am a bit of a trekkie but have really liked these recent two with Chris Pine as the young James T Kirk. And Uhura is hot.
  19. A few more fairly recent rentals. Warm Bodies; I don't know what to say. It was a different take on zombies, which was kind of refreshing, but personally I didn't care for it much. But I think I'm in the minority on that as most I've talked to seemed to really like it. Just thought they could've done so much more with it. This Is 40; watched it this evening. Some really funny stuff mixed in with lots of real depressing stuff. I hated the female lead and a few other characters. It's worth it for the comedic parts. We watched the unrated version. The little outtake blurb at the end alone was worth it.
  20. A few recent ones- Good Day To Die Hard; terrible excuse of a movie, worst of the bunch by far. Not even worth $1.20 at Redbox. Rapture-Palooza; was good and stupid funny but have fun trying to find it (got it On Demand-Xfinity) Silver Linings Playbook; thought it was going to be a chick flick but liked it anyway. The Call; Pretty decent and Halle Barry isn't bad to look at, a lot. Key Largo (1950's w/ Bogey & Bacall); Love those old B&W's on TCM World War Z, Despicable Me 2, and Monsters U; at the top of my want to see list.
